We went for Easter this year while we were in town. It was packed and I really liked the Pastor he was very funny. Very traditional and reminded of a Methodist church inside. Lots of kids and all ethnicities. Very welcoming. read more

What's happened to Desert Chapel? They went from four services on the weekend to just one! Is it because Pastor Fred is seen less and other less charismatic ones are leading the church? I left because their evening weekend service was cancelled just before Covid outbreak. One of my main complaints is that there is major unbelief in the church. Pastor Fred admitted that he didn't believe eternal punishment for those who fail to turn from their sins! He didn't offer any scriptural arguments, just simple "I don't believe it," --his exact words. No wonder I've never heard any serious sermons on this subject for 20 years! It's what keeps me from making the one morning service if I have the time. I still believe the Holy Spirit is present in this church, and I love the years that I went there, it's just that unbelief makes me want to join another church. read more

I just read a few reviews. People talking about Desert Chapel tithe- expressing that's all they want, really? With my experiences with different churches, while travel; or with friends, this is normal. It's mentioned more than once weekly. They need to contribute monies to keep going. Friends of mine give 10% of their earnings to churches. Don't tithe if you don't want to, but try not to bad mouth, and give the wrong impression to others that are trying to explore the word and understanding the truth why people need to tithe. Read about it. I tell people to try this church, it may be for you and it may not. Focus on the messages, and just pray and be graceful. As for bad vibes, It's simple, you could get that every where. I myself could be a complex kid, (working on that) and I felt very welcome at Desert Chapel the first time and now. They try to do their best, and work hard to continue providing their programs. God given messages are there, believe me. I see that Pastor Fred is a realist, my opinion. Many laugh at his jokes, and there is one weekly. What is wrong with that! Years ago I would have given this church full stars, however that is not the case now. The sermons are feel good milktoast monologues about prosperity gospel. The pastors son fancies him self as a faith healer, but the miracle comes with a hefty donation. My advice, steer clear of four square churches. read more

Having spent the past two decades on a spiritual rather than organized religion journey, I walked into Desert Chapel a few months ago and knew I was home. While I am a devoted follower of Marianne Williamson, I needed more. Upon moving to CA, I regularly attended the religion to which I was raised..yet felt something was missing. I attend DC weekly and Sunday has become my favorite day..Pastor Fred, Asst Pastor Jimmy, the music, the people. I attended Desert Chapel for 22 years. I attended during a time when I was a working mother and needed to go to church and hear a sermon that I knew would renew me. I always got that from Pastor Fred. He has a gift for a sermon that is well received by his congregation. I thrived spiritually during those 22 years. I learned the Word, I attended classes, womens' retreats, holiday functions and more. When I retired, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me I needed more. I think I outgrew Desert Chapel. I hungered for more. I got tired of hearing the same stories over and over again from Pastor Fred. How he and his wife sat in the back pew and he heard God tell him he was to Pastor in PS. How He built his first home in Oregon...And so on. Nothing wrong with that... As his children got older, Fred placed them in positions of leadership and let the other gentlemen who had those positions go----just like that. Not a good example. His children were too young and inexperienced to hold those positions, That bothered me. I began to hear things about the churches finances that troubled me as well. Dont get me wrong, I am a tither and have joy in giving but I do hold church leaders accountable as to where the money goes and there was no accountability that I could tell. I know several of the elders and I am convinced they are "yes" men to Fred. Desert Chapel is centrally located in Palm Springs, Pastor Freds messages are a delight.....I understand why it continues to be a popular church. However, it is too big for me. I enjoy celebrating the joy of the Lord, small group Bible studies, accountability, and saying hello to people who I know ...and people who know me as well. read more

An incredible church. For its founding to it's present day, Desert Chapel has been an Oasis in the desert. Solid, uncompromising Bible teaching. Pastor Fred is an outstanding preacher. Compassion for the struggling. Vision for missions. Great worship. Extremely effective children's and youth ministry. Our family was a part of the body there for a few years before moving out of country and during our time at Desert Chapel, their youth ministry was very instrumental in laying a solid foundation for our children. Though there is ministry for every age group, there is no splintering of the fellowship by age brackets. We still consider the great people at Desert Chapel to be family. read more

This is an awesome church. The word of God is preached every week. My husband and I have learned so much about how to apply the Bible to practical everyday living. Most of all God's love is practiced and taught there. We love the school, the Bible studies, the outreach to seniors, and the outreach to the community of Palm Springs. We are snowbirds, and Desert Chapel is what keeps us coming to Palm Springs! read more

I have been attending Desert Chapel for over 13 years. I love Pastor Fred's sermons. He's funny and he talks about the things that matter. His passion shines through. He is about helping others in any way he can. He doesn't judge. His church welcomes anyone and everyone regardless of their past or present. It also has a great youth program from infants through high school. My kids have been attending since birth and I love the foundation this church has helped build in my kids. I have nothing negative to say. This church is amazing. read more

We have attended Desert Chapel for over 8 years. When I started going I stepped carefully and became familiar with all that this church offers. I joined the Ladies Bible Study and then Choir. My husband attended weekly Bible study and already was a member of the Choir and Desert Chapel Chorale. We jointly attended the seniors group, Encore for fellowship at their monthly pot luck meals. It was a wonderful way to meet new people. The first service held at 8am has very traditional music for those of us pre-seniors. Pastor Fred DOES read scripture from the Bible. He rotates teaching by topics and by the Books. We find the services enlightening and inspirational. If you are unable to attend, CD's of each week's sermon is available and if you are reading this, you can also see the website DesertChapel.org As far as the man who couldn't get borrowed Bibles, I do understand his gripe. We do have times where the church purchases extra Bibles and does hand them out freely. I think he may have hit a time where we had none left in the inventory to give away. I once experienced asking to borrow some folding tables for a home bible study gathering. I too was turned down but the reason was justified. They were experiencing "borrowings" but not "returns." This places a hardship on the church's financial budget as they must be replaced. Sometimes the church administrator is just doing his job to protect the church's best interest. To the man who needed Bibles, may I suggest going to Thrift Stores where they always seem to be available. My husband and I have home bible studies and we always pick up a few Bibles to have on hand to those who are in need. We would recommend Desert Chapel to anyone who is seeking God and wants to learn the Word through church attendance,Bible Studies and the many interest groups that are available at this church. We even have our own Christian school through 12th grade and sports team. It is a wonderful church community for families and singles to become a part of. read more

I love this church. When we moved to the desert 10 years ago, we searched for a church that we felt was right for our family. I am so glad that we found Desert Chapel. Pastor Fred is great and makes every sermon entertaining while teaching the word of God.
