I write this review with a heavy heart. I truly wish I could leave separate reviews for the Elementary and Middle School programs. Because I can't, I'm giving an overall rating of 3 stars. The elementary administration and teachers are outstanding and absolutely deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the middle school. While the introduction, meet-and-greet, and initial impressions were wonderful, only one quarter in and things feel chaotic and extremely disorganized and unsafe, not from external but internally. It functions more like a public school with one added Bible class. Some students frequently fight--or as their discipline coordinator calls it, "roughhousing"--and there seems to be little control over students' language, so constant cursing is simply tolerated, pushing each other, hitting each other "playfully" is okay and if your child is in the crossfire or yourself "oh well". read more

I agree that this school isn't what they appear to be during the interview/meet-and-greet process. And for the tuition you pay, the kids bathrooms are disgusting and unsanitary. And the class sizes are too big. You'd think it would be small classes but it's about 30 kids in the class. read more

I don't even want to select one star. This school is not what they advertise. We sent our children to this school and pulled them out shortly after because the principal and administration proved to be manipulative, one-sided, and only there to benefit from families that give money and support their fundraisers. One of our children was emotionally abused by several adults and staff there. These are adults that my child should have been able to trust. On paper they claim to partner with families -- there was no partnership. Only abuse. Academically: The curriculum is so far behind most of the surrounding public school districts. We are so thankful we got our children out when we did. They've also started asking staff members to write reviews in return for gift cards so that their reviews can go up. Look into other Christian schools in the area, this one will disappoint. read more

Desert Christian Schools is amazing! From the TK program to the high school, this school is really a beacon of light! My son has been at DC since 4th grade and he has loved it ever since. We are not from the Antelope Valley, so when we moved up here from the Torrance area, we were looking for the right fit for my son. He tried other schools in the area and was unfortunately bullied and picked on there. At Desert Christian, he found a home! The staff is great, and they truly care about the well being of the whole child! As a parent, I couldn't be happier; as an educator, I couldn't be more impressed and as a Believer in Christ, I couldn't be more thankful!! They are now in middle school and high school and have been receiving the highest quality education, and the love of Jesus Christ through these caring teachers and staff. If I could give a negative 5 star review I would. I have a child that attends the school and the emotional abuse she is getting from the principal and her teacher is unforgivable. They claim to be Christian yet they are the most UN-Christian people I have ever had to deal with. My child has been bullied by 3 boys for 2 straight years and they will not do anything about it, they won't because the children are kids of employees. My child has had some issues because of the bullying and has acted out as a result. They have not hesitated to isolate her from others, tell her she's rude, the principal has actually told her not to look at or talk to another student. They make her sit alone at lunch and have told other students to stay away from her. The trouble my daughter has got into is petty child stuff, nothing that warrants being treated like a felon in a prison yard. The principal is the most un-caring self-centered principal. The only thing this school cares about is fundraising for their needed expensive items. They lie and make things up to make a case against the kids they want to target. There should be cameras in every classroom so the teachers can be held accountable for their actions, they yell at students and don't punish kids that misbehave and they target the kids that try to defend themselves from other kids who are mean to them. The teachers will go out of their way to exclude a child they don't like and it's very evident when they post photos on class Dojo. The teachers are not fair and very biased. read more

I have very bad experience here they yelled at my mom on the phone saying "Come get your daughter!!" and the continued to slam the phone. Also if your in a situation where your mexican they will always take the side of the lighter kids side. DO NOT come here if you're any type of Latino/latina!! I did have good experience with some teachers there. Also if the teachers have kids who go to that school don't dought what they would do for they're kids. Worst school I've ever been to. Desert Christian is THE BEST school in the Antelope Valley! My two daughters have been attending DCS since they were both in preschool (currently have an elementary student and high school student), and we have NEVER had a bad experience. My kiddos love going to school, and I love sending them. I know that when we drop them off they encounter people who sincerely love them from the moment they step foot on campus, until they hop back into the car to go home. The new administrator, Mrs. Shannon Case, is an awesome principal, and such a blessing to our family. My daughters look to her as their school mom. Shannon sees each individual child as her own, and loves on them and protects them, as any mama bear would. In addition to this amazing principal, we have only encountered caring and thoughtful teachers in our journey through DCS. From Kindergarten through high school, there are so many faculty that I want to shout out. I won't name them all here, but a few that really shine include Mrs. Kenngott, Mrs. Ottaviano, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Arcidiacono , and Mrs. Henwood just to name a few. In addition to a rigorous curriculum, these teachers and admin infuse their love of the Lord in every interaction they make with children. My family and I are truly blessed beyond measure and thank God that we can provide our children the opportunity to earn their education at Desert Christian. If you're looking for a faith-based school with a caring administrator and teachers, and top notch learning experiences, look no further than DCS. I'll start off with this review by simply letting you know that I REGRET taking my son to this school. I truly felt that my son and my family as one would have a lovely experience here but it was the worst experience. You definitely feel that theirs favoritism and they make you feel like you've made the right decision by enrolling your child there when in reality all it is, is a big scam. You would think they would have a better system in place or morals since it's a Christian School but everyone there is just pure hypocrites. I love Desert Christian. My daughter started in the Preschool Learning Tree program, and is now entering 8th grade. We have been blessed with teachers who love their students, take time to know them individually, and develop a lasting relationship with both the students and us parents. Whenever I have had an issue, it has been resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. Those who truly believe in a God-centered education will not be disappointed. DCS is safe, positive and provides a diverse selection of advanced academics, athletic opportunities and enrichment programs. I've read other reviews, and no school is going to be a perfect fit for everyone. It's not reasonable to expect that. Schedule a tour and observe the students in their regular environment. It's a vast difference from the bullying, language and drama in other schools. You will see genuine friendship, acceptance, and camaraderie. This eliminates wasted time spent on conflict and promotes a positive learning experience. Don't take my word for it- go see for yourself! read more

I attended this school from kindergarten to my sophomore year. Just to share a bit about my experience I was harassed inappropriately by students who were old enough to vote when I was 14. I was bullied both in school and online via inappropriate names, graphic depictions of things people of the opposite sex would do to me, body shaming, etc... ( I understand that kids can be cruel, but none of the staff did anything to stop it even when it was brought up.) Other students and I were given detention or reprimanded for things as simple as forgetting pencils or books 3 times within a semester, requesting to use the bathroom too often, and disagreeing with teachers in an academic discourse setting. Kids with disabilities, both mental and physical, were made fun of by staff and students alike. Not to mention there was a culture of blatant racism, sexism, and religious discrimination that seemed to thrive there. The list most definitely goes on but I just want to give parents considering the school an idea of what they could be subjecting their children to. The bottom line is Desert Christian is supposed to be a school where you can feel at ease sending your kids to. It's supposed to be an establishment with Christian values. However, it is littered with hypocrisy and some of the most non Christ like people I have ever met. read more

DON'T waste your time or money!!! They make you feel warm and fuzzy during the school tour for middle school but what you don't know is, if you didn't come up through the DCS system your child WILL be treated different! The school administrator told me that 'yes, I know we have that reputation and that it is a problem' during a meeting I had to have after several problems with the middle principal and a teacher. He knows this has been a problem for several years but yet nothing has been done. If you want your child treated horribly then DCS is the place for you. As far as curriculum goes I'll just say this, after one year myself and several families left to make sure our children get the education and treatment they deserve. read more

My daughter will graduate from Desert Christian High School this June and has attended Desert Christian since Kindergarten. There are so many reasons we have continued her education at DCS but a few things stand out. During her time on every campus she had wonderful teachers that instructed her academically and guided her spiritually. The past 4 years at DCHS have been fantastic. She was able to play on 3 varsity sports teams each year, take honors and ap classes. I also love that they encourage volunteering and help students participate in the community. As my daughter decides which university she will attend, I know she is prepared academically and spiritually for the next chapter. I highly recommend Desert Christian Schools. read more

I attended DC from 3rd-9th grade, graduated elsewhere class of '16. Lets start with Elementary School: Kids treated me like an outsider because they all started at DC in preschool and I did not. I actually used to be an outgoing kid but being excluded from everything the entire time I attended this school really weighed on me. Also want to mention they treat you like you are in prison and you get in trouble if you talk at all during lunch. Middle School: A lot of cliques, and although I do believe they have some good teachers you can still tell they have favorites and treat their favorites differently from the rest of the students. Never once had a sex education class which I knew was supposed to happen in 8th grade. High School: Allowed a little more freedom, however I got multiple detentions for 1) asking to use the restroom during class 2) needed to grab a book out of my locker and or late to class for grabbing a book out of my locker. They don't give you enough time between classes so I would just be stuck carrying around 6+ huge books all day and or getting a detention for it. Also, they claim to be a Christian school but its more like a Baptist school. I got in trouble a few times in Bible class because my views and teachings were different from the Bible teachers views and teachings. I don't believe students should get in trouble for disagreeing with an OPINION of a teacher. Final Thoughts: I really REALLY regretted never having a normal school experience. DCS is a very small school and theres not a lot of diversity at all. NO middle school dances, NO homecoming dance or event, NO prom King or Queen, actually theres no prom at all unless its sponsored by parents. Please reconsider sending your kids here, myself and everyone who I still keep in contact with from DC regret going here and begged our parents multiple times to transfer to a different school. read more

My daughter has been attending Desert Christian since first grade and is now in ninth grade. Yes, it costs money and yes, sometimes that's hard. I would never go anywhere else though! We had a very difficult end to our year in 2019. I had to mention it to the school for certain reasons, including my daughter having to miss a few days, but didn't expect them to say anything about tuition. I mentioned the issues in October of 2019 and The principal called me personally that week telling me to not worry about paying until March of 2020. These people care about more than just your money. They care about you! My son now attends as well and when we first put him in we couldn't afford the books. They were given to us, free of charge no strings attached. My kids have all their teachers email address and are encouraged to talk with them outside of school hours. Some have even scheduled private zoom meetings in the evening with my kids to help them with homework. These people care!!!! It is not just a business, this is a family! I will love and appreciate what these people have done for me and my kids for life! Thank you desert Christian from the bottom of my heart!! read more

Went to these schools from 2002-2015 which was preschool to 10th grade for me. There is an issue with favoritism, especially to the kids who's parents are on wealthy side. If your child doesn't fit the school's version of what a perfect little Christian kid is supposed to be then expect them not to have a good time here. I, also, had an issue in high school with some teachers preaching that their word is the truth and that their truth is backed up by the Bible and then have other teachers saying stuff that contradicts other the other teachers and then saying that their truth is backed up by the Bible. While that made me develop my skills in research to form my own opinion on things, which is a good thing, it overall just made me distrust the teachers and eventually came to distrust modern Christianity in general. Maybe if I didn't go to these schools I would live a more religious life but frankly I've just grown apathetic towards it all. There were a few other things that made me leave in 2015 but this review is long enough and I feel like I've made my point. Overall not a good experience and I needed therapy to come to terms with a lot of issues that arose from growing up in this environment. Don't send your kids here. read more

I was enrolled at this school from 2nd grade until graduating High School. I am now in my late 20s with an Associates degree from College of the Canyons. The first year of college was incredibly difficult for me because I had no idea how behind my education level was in certain areas, and how little I was actually taught at this school. These are three of the biggest issues I have recognized through comparing experiences with people who either taught at or attended other schools: 1) The school takes a Creationist, young earth perspective on teaching science. As a result, there were huge gaps in my scientific knowledge as you really can't grasp a lot of concepts without having a basic understanding of the theory of evolution, which we were taught is a lie. 2) The lack of extracurricular clubs is abysmal. When I attended, there was not even a photography club. 3) Nepotism. In high school at one point, four of the teachers were all from the same family, and a pair of teachers were married to each other. There was also a brother/sister pair hired nearly at the same time. This school will make your child be behind academically for the rest of their life. There are huge gaps in the curriculum, very little extracurricular activities, and have basically no hiring standards other than "be a Christian" and "be someone related to somebody who already works here". read more

My oldest daughter goes to this school and I feel very fortunate to have nothing but good experiences here. She has been attednding since she was 2 and she is now in the 4 year old class. All of her teachers including Ms. Toni, Mrs. Elza, Ms. Luci, Mrs. Ashlyn, Mrs. Elsie, Mrs. Myra, and currently Mrs. Noelle have been beyond exceptional. All of these teachers/ aides have always used their best judgement and definitely gained my trust throughout the years. When we pulled our kids out of school before the end of the year due to the non education they were getting. they still wanted us to pay for the last two months of school and we refused. So they turned us over to a ridiculous collection agency who won't except anything except for a payment in full. It's been five years and they've collected nothing. I guess they're waiting for Jesus to come take the money right out of my pocket. As far as the education is concerned my kids tell me their English teacher used to sit in class and sniff sharpies the math teacher is obsessed with little girls and has Polaroid pictures of the girls volleyball team all over his pin board in their little shorts and as far as science is concerned they try to tell the kids that evolution is evil and not real so clearly we had to get the children out of there before they fell any further behind in education. read more

I started there in 1995, kindergarten thru high school graduation. My parents invested 10s of thousands of dollars in my education. My mother wanted me in a religion based environment, well this is just the place if you call being money hungry a religion. In almost 20 years of being apart of that school, that being because my little brother now attends I have watched this school transform into a hypocritical, politic based business, not an institution for higher education or a spiritual refuge. My mother recently told me that Desert Christian now charges a Chapel FEE, I was unaware that seeking God cost money. During my schooling I had many difficulties with staff and parents much due to a Cass System that unfortunately drives the school. If you have money to donate then you can get away with pretty much anything, but if you come from a hard working family like I do then its the Darwin theory, eat or be eaten. I'm thankful to have been blessed with some pretty amazing teachers, but the BAD most definitely outweighs the GOOD. The more I hear the more disappointed I become. If your wealthy then this is just the place to send your child, but if your just in the middle like most families in the Antelope Valley LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! read more

My daughter has been going there for 3yrs (she won't next year). First, you pay over $400 just in the monthly fee plus $400+ in materials and $250 registration, then $15 per school shirt. After you pay all this money your child is put into a class of 35 students!! You can't even walk around the classroom cause there is so many desk there is no room to move. Then when you as a parent try to speak to the staff about the classroom size they say they had to cut back on the teachers, add up $400 per child, $14,000 per month and they won't pay for another teacher. So then I tried to go the the end of the year school carnival (that parents are allowed to attend) to take so photos of my daughter playing games for memories, the staff would not let me in because I had my 2yr old daughter with me. So they have a on school carnival and no siblings are allowed to go even if their a baby!! So I go and pick up my daughter after her carnival was over and Principle Horner is in her office and I can hear her counting the money from the carnival and talking about parents saying how she loves happy parents and then she starts laughing speaking badly of the other parents saying how they left stomping their feet cause they won't let them into the carnival. Then the staff member that was sitting at the desk went back to her office and I hear her tell her that I'm in the office and it gets quiet, It was so rude, disrespectful and unkind if it wasn't for us parents they won't have a job. What is so bad about a parent that want to be part of their child school experience, then the principle finds it funny when they will not let parents be part of this, and this is a Christian School. The school work isn't much different then public. Then my daughter asked to use the restroom and teacher won't allow her so she pee in her pants cause she couldn't hold any longer and she, she told me when she got home and it was already dry and I could smell it. My poor child was in pee jeans all day long then when I tell the Principle she does nothing and says that my daughter never told the teacher she needed to use the restroom, there is no reprimanding of the staff they just blow you off. I would never recommend this school to anyone. read more
