I usually come here on Sundays, and my son attends the youth ministry group. We have always had a great experience. Everyone is welcoming, and the environment is positive and encouraging. We've had such a great experience at Sacred Heart School Our daughter has thrived both academically and socially here. The teachers are caring, communicative, and truly passionate about what they do. What stands out most is the strong sense of community -- from the principal to the staff and even other families, it really feels like a team effort. My daughter comes home excited to share what she learned, and we've been impressed with the mix of academics, art, and social-emotional learning. We LOVE this school! We have four children, two of which are school age and both attend school at Sacred Heart. We have had a very positive and wonderful experience each year we have attended. We have been there 3 years now and my children and I have both made life long friends. Principal Schatz is fantastic. He is very personable with all of the parents and you can tell he both loves his job and the children at Sacred Heart. We could not imagine our family any where else! I love this school! My little one is learning so much. I like that, eventhough we are very busy parents, they make us being involve with our kid. The security is getting so much better every day. Sacred Heart is a wonderful school. Faith and education are of the utmost importance. The teachers and principal of Sacred Heart School are extremely supportive and kind. My child loves her school. She loves her friends and teachers. My daughter had expressed how happy she is to go to school. I love the community within the school. I also feel so much pride in the values being instilled. We had two older children attend this school years ago. They did very well in high school and college. They have fond memories of Sacred Heart School. read more

Great school if you want your children to have a faith filled education, morals, friends with similar values and high standards. I have never felt that my children were not safe at this school. The teachers are all great. One of them even took time out of her weekend to attend my child's sports game. They have high standards of behavior but I have never felt my child was treated unfairly or harshly. When this school goes on field trips to LPAC with other schools you can see how well behaved they are compared to other schools. I am always proud when out with the school on field trips and we sit down for lunch and pray. If your Catholic faith is important to you, this school really helps give children a good foundation. My kids are all happy and I love being a part of this school community. I feel that I would not have the same support system in a public school setting. read more

The staff and the principal are always there for us when we have questions about our child's education. Solutions are always made and recourses are always available. Watching our daughter make friends who are kind and caring as opposed to the public school she was once at is also very encouraging. She actually wakes up and is happy to go to school. That's a difference we noticed right away. As far as clergy is concerned, we have seen priests come and go a bit. That is not the schools fault but the church's dealings, and unfortunately I have heard parents blame the school and here on yelp use it as a negative rant. Times change and sometimes those changes happen when it is not convenient for us , but as a community we must persevere. There were some safety concerns last year due to the school being in the down town area and the city letting the homeless and mentally unstable run amuck...the school took action and has now installed higher fencing made of wrought iron and the schools main doors are locked and on an intercom..there is also security on premises! this gives us a huge sigh of relief knowing that if there needs to be improve security and monitoring they get it done. My child will remain here and we are happy to say we are SHS SAINTS! read more

So they say that a Catholic Education is an Advantage For Life. I must say, I do agree. The teachers I had were beyond excellent and really prepared me for High School, college, and life. The class sizes are small, the classrooms are well stocked, the teachers cared, the facilities are clean and most importantly, you really do get a Catholic Education. I'm very surprised by the negative reviews. I can't speak on behalf of others but I can speak from my own experience. As a parent I spent 12 years dealing with the public school system. It was nearly impossible to get the parent communication needed, I was rarely able to access the principal and safety was always a concern. Now that we are at Sacred Heart we have none of those issues. I can call, text, or email all of my daughters teachers and principal and have a reply the same day. The expectations for parents and students are very clear. My daughter struggled academically prior to Sacred Heart but thanks to the very consistent support of the teachers and principal we are making major progress. I have never once felt insecure about my daughters safety when I drop her off at school even though the neighborhood is questionable. The parents and staff are very aware of strangers or any unusual activity. As far as religion goes...my husband attended Sacred Heart in the 70's and he's very happy about the way they are handling religious education at this time. Less fear and punishment, more about the facts and loving acceptance of all. The education can be rigorous at times which I feel is better high school and college preparation but they have several activities throughout the year that allows the kids to decompress and be kids as well. The Sacred Heart families have been some of the kindest and most supportive families. There's a lot of kindness coming from the kids which is a reflection of their families and the school. read more

I give this school a negative 10 if I could. Worst school ever! This school use to have a waiting list it was so good. About 10 years ago they got a new principal and he has run the school into the ground. There have been several mass exodus by families because of the incompetence of the principal, failure in child safety and the fact all of the excellent teaching staff has left. There has been scandal after scandal at this school in the last 10 years. Parents complain and it makes no difference. Very sad to see so many good families leave because of the lies, imcompetence and scandal cover ups. The priest is arrogant and does not even interact with the children, the principal allows bullying to go on and with the high number of teacher turnover, the kids are behind in learning. Very sad really, this school has such a fantastic reputation at one time! Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else. read more

We happily went to this school as it had a reputation for being one of the best. Sadly, after a few years, we left mid year because of the incompetence of the Principal. Children's safety has been compromised on numerous occasions and the Principal only wants parents around him that are willing to fundraise for him and to fluff his ego! Lack of strong leadership by the Principal and the Priest has resulted in a mass exodus of children at the end of school last year and mid year this year. In talking to other parents, there will be another at the end of this school year. Issues at this school include and is not limited to money, bullying by not only student to student, but by teachers, students being exposed to intoxicated homeless people and pedophiles on campus. When these issues were presented to the School administration, neither the Principal or the Priest took appropriate action. When these issues were taken to the Archdiocese, they also have been slow to help, even after admitting there is a problem at this school. My husband and I pulled our son mid year from this school because we did not feel our son was in a secure safe environment, we are tired of the tuition always being raised and nothing to show for the money, inappropriate behavior of the Priest, teachers that bully, and the numerous lies by the Principal. Yes, how can you trust a Principal that will not only lie to the kids and parents, but has been caught lying to his teachers and staff. Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere, what I have learned is you do not get the Catholic education you are promised. read more

Great school! Daughter is always eager to learn and spend time with friends in school.

I wrote a review before and some how they removed it. This school at least what I experienced does not go by the Catholic faith that I was taught. The new TK program has many flaws. The first is that they put a new teacher in the class to teach 4 year olds. The problem is she can't handle them. Preschool is for children to learn to get along with other children, and get prepared for kindergarten . All children hit and if a teacher can't handle that herself when it first happens. Not having to take it and any other little thing to the principle then you have a problem. My grandson hit twice on the first days of school, not ever again. Then they say he spit on kids. I find that hard to believe because he can not spit. He can blow raspberries , I guess that can be considered spitting . He colored on the desk twice. Now this whole time the principle and teacher are harrassing this little 4 year old. So much that when we ask him how his day was at school, he would reply . I was just a little bit bad. They should be praising these kids for the good not chopping them down. It was like, we don't like you, so your out of here. They don't follow the rules in the school handbook on discipline and the maturity level of the child. When a friend of my daughter heard about my grandson getting kicked out. She asked , what did he do. I told her. She then replied. Do you what to hear what my son did at his preschool and they didn't kick him out. They worked with him and he is doing great. She told me the he hit a kid with a shovel, cut a little girls hair and bit someone. So if your child is not a robot then don't send them here. They want them to act like the 8th graders. He was in school 32 days. We spent money on uniforms, on their script, their fund raisers and put in hours for that school. And now we are fighting them just to get our money back out of them. This is not the Catholic way to treat the youngest Catholics.i do not recommend this school. It was nothing that I I visioned it would be. read more
