I have never had an issue with Desert Financial until now, but this experience has been beyond frustrating and disappointing. I deposited my tax return check on February 27, and because my tax preparer is in Illinois while I am in Arizona, they decided to hold my funds, claiming it was fraudulent. I explained that I am originally from Illinois, and this is my tax return, but they refused to believe me. The representatives I spoke to were extremely rude, especially the gentleman, who was arrogant and condescending, insinuating that I was lying. To make matters worse, they are holding my money until March 13 with no clear explanation of why such a long delay is necessary. This has put me in a terrible financial situation--my rent and utilities are due, my car needs repairs, and my son's birthday just passed on February 25. I was counting on these funds to provide for my family, and now I am struggling because of Desert Financial's unnecessary hold. This feels like financial bullying. It's my money--I worked hard all year for this refund, and yet they are keeping it from me for no legitimate reason. The way they handled this situation, from the lack of understanding to the outright rudeness, has completely ruined my trust in this institution. I have with Desert Financial was credit union. I must say that in all of those years I have never had a bad experience with this credit union. They have always been very helpful and gone the extra mile for. I have recently moved into an apartment and was running low on my checks. I went into the branch at 59th Ave. and Thunderbird and they were so helpful and printed me out new checks in a matter of minutes. As soon as I move into my permanent location, I will order new checks with change of address, but this solution really solved my problem. I've banked at this credit union for over a year now. Recommended it to several friends whom also bank there now. Tellers are pleasant; service is fairly quick. You can get a debit card the same day you open an account, and funds deposited are usually available immediately. They also have a great app for your phone that allows you to check balances and make transfers with ease. read more

Safest ATM location ive ever experienced ... has a locked room the requires a credit union card to unlock, and this is the only ATM ive found that allows deposits to my credit union based in Sacramento (other COOP atms would give an error) .. never any homeless bugging people for shit either !!!! It is nothing special as it is just another credit union albeit the largest one in AZ. We banked with them for about ten years but then left when they started charging high and excessive fees similar to big banks like Chase, Wells Fargo and etc but as time went on we circled back around and joined back with them. We have never had a bad experience with this credit union not even when we were with them the first time. They have convenient branch locations and hours and are even located in some Walmart's and Fry's which is nice because the store locations are generally open until 7PM. Moreover, you can use ATM's at other credit unions surcharge (Majority) free both here in AZ and out of state. Very nice option! They also have cool looking debit card designs! read more

If you ever have fraud on your account, don't expect this place to support their customers. I had an incident happen with my bank card, which they actually flagged when it happened and called me. I explained it was not me, as I was sitting in my living room in Glendale, AZ; meanwhile, the charges were actively taking place in California. Once off the phone, I thought it was settled. But, no. They sent a message through the portal with no notification that it was ever there. Most certainly not alerted through the app because it consistently doesn't work or just logs you out. Nothing in the mail. Saying the merchant validated the charge, I needed to write them a letter explaining why I THINK this is wrong. If I don't respond by the 5th, I get screwed out of my money, whether it was fraud or not. Mind you, I was never alerted to this letter in the first place and thought it had been settled when they flagged it, canceled the card, and sent me a new one. Oh, no. That was not it. Flash forward to the 5th of January. Apparently, the money that was given back to me was only a credit? And because I did not write them a letter, they removed the funds and sent them back to the merchant! Stating the proved it was a valid charge and would send me documents to look over. Which I never received. So now you've pissed me off, my daughter off and ripped me off on top of allowing a fraudster to rip me off, also! So, my daughter reaches out to the merchant and does more digging than the actual fraud department did at this crappy company. It turns out the "proof" that was sent that solidified the charge was valid was proof tickets had been scanned at the event. I'd imagine if someone is going to fraudulently buy tickets to something, they're going to use the damn things. Good job, Desert Financial fraud department. You failed to request the billing address that was used, mailing address, or name that was used to purchase. Which was a man who lived in California. Luckily, my daughter spoke with a nice man named David, who gave her all this information, which I sent to the bank and they still did not return my money, so they will be accepting the charge back on their end, to hopefully resolve where you failed to do your job. I will be expecting an apology for your negligence and hope people take this as a warning that Desert Financial does not have your best interest at heart and will pretty much help people rip you off. It almost makes you wonder if the people they have working there are the ones committing the fraud. I'll definitely have to check that out. read more

I have been a customer for 35 years recently I have had nothing but trouble with my accounts they have made it clear that they would like me to leave and I completely agree. I absolutely hate this bank! In my entire life I have never banked with such a money hungry organization. Overdraft fees hit your account in the blink of eye! The employees are being paid with my stolen money long enough. If you think you can cover charges guess again unless you can afford to keep a few hundred extra dollars in your account! They'll find a way to say something was pending and charge you an overdraft fee for EVERY SINGLE transaction. If they claim you're last transaction is short by $1, guess what- they'll charge you $35 for every transaction that day! And if you call in to speak to someone about it- they don't listen- they just repeat things over and over- treat you like an idiot and Laugh! Closing my account immediately!!! read more

Went in to pay off a loan via shared branching. Needed to have them fax confirmation of cash payment to my credit union to expedite a title release. I've now called five times and still not had the confirmation sent to the proper receiving party. When I called the fifth time, I reached a central hub and spoke with an extremely rude female who hung up on me when I requested to be transferred to someone at the specific branch I'd gone to earlier in the day. Long story short: I will NEVER do business with this institution again. I know financial institutions are notorious for bad customer service, and I've dealt with my fair share of banks and credit unions in the past; this one takes the cake for absolute worst customer service. read more

After reading the reviews on here, I feel compelled to write my own. Always found DFCU to have great service and to be very cooperative in those rare occasions you may need extra assistance. Like most financial institutions, if you keep screwing up by overdrafting your empty account without overdraft protection (or not keeping even a small balance in a connected account), it can be costly. No financial institution puts up with that by replacing "Mommy & Daddy," but DFCU treats their good customers very well. Never had ANY problems over 15 years. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE WAS THE WORST PEOPLE IVE EVER TALKED TO IN MY LIFE.... Worst bank I've ever had to deal with... I called to get business account number, simple task, after numerous attempts of having to hang up and call back, they finally gave me a number, the WRONG number on purpose after we exchanged words.... That's got to be illegal and she needs to be fired. Then she even has the nerve to freeze my account while I'm out of town and can't go into a branch when they're clearly in the wrong.. I opened my first bank account and credit card here at 16 years old. I still have my measly little $300 credit card, yearsssss later. I had three late payments over 7 years. My fault, but due to incredibly stressful situations and starting as a special ed teacher (i.e. no paycheck that summer as I was also a college student and couldn't take on another job). Besides the 3 late payments, my credit report and debt to income ratio are SPARKLING. But the late payments dropped my credit score A LOT. Wrote to the bank, explained my situation, let them know I've been a LONG TIME customer... they don't give a fuck. Won't help me at all... Keep in mind they have the option of givimg "goodwill afjustments" to customers (which is what I requested). And they took the MAX amount of time they possibly could as allowed by law to even reply to me. Going to pay it off, close all my accounts with them and warn friends to stay away from their heartless company. Do NOT recommend. read more

This branch completely screwed up my wire transfer for home purchase. The worst!

The absolute worst customer service. The teller made a mistake depositing a check for my home equity loan of $700. When I caught the mistake the next day, the manager said they "would try" to get the research done and correct the mistake by the end of the day. When I asked what would have happened if I wouldn't have caught their mistake, would they have kept the $700.00, the manager said he really couldn't say -- they would have been out of balance. Why weren't they out of balance yesterday and why didn't they find the mistake. Make sure to check your deposit slips carefully as obviously they don't and don't care if they keep your money. read more

They failed to properly put a stop payment on an ach transaction, even after speaking first with Juan the member services representative in person. I then had to go in and speak with Denise (the manager) who reversed the charge and put the money back in my account, only to have her also fail to actually put the original stop payment requested. I had to wait over thirty minutes both times I visited, as well as visit another location and speak with their manager, resulting in three trips to resolve one issue, which is still not resolved. Also, Juan failed to leave any notes on my account and denied ever having helped me, as well as Denise the manager left notes on the account that were false in regards to what I had actually requested. I'm absolutely appalled at how I've been treated, especially since I've been a member here for over ten years, as well as my entire family holds accounts here. Also, I will be leaving a review for the bell road location in regards to how Nubia, their manager, failed to properly handle the situation. The only worse experience I've had in an establishment other than this, would be the experience at the bell road location. Do not trust this company with your money, and do not trust the "policies" the different locations will give you. There is not consistency, and I wish there was a more direct way to contact upper level management/corporate in regards to my experience. read more

Went into this branch to withdraw money to pay a bill. There were 5 people already in the teller line, and only two tellers actually helping customers. Several other workers were present in the background, apparently doing nothing and showing no concern to the ever growing line. Soon everyone in line was grumbling because the line has not moved for over 15 mins. Customers started to complain and after 20 mins of waiting, one man in line spoke up out loud to one man behind the counter not helping anyone. He shouted to the man "why the hell are you just standing there? Cant you see there are customers out here waiting to be helped? Where is your Manager? Why are people standing around doing nothing! The gentleman behind the counter said "I am the manager. We will get to you in a moment!. The manager then never moved from his spot, didn't get any other people to help, and just stood there. The customers in line were dumb-founded. One teller came over, opened another window, helped ONE customer, and then closed the window and walked away!! This made the people waiting in line (now over 25 mins) furious. Now there were over thirty customers in line, all asking or complaining about why it was taking so long. I was so pissed off about the lack of concern for the customer and customer service, I gave them my cards and closed out my checking and savings account! I originally opened an account at Desert Schoolsl because of banks like Chase, who got rid of tellers to save money, and no longer give a shit about customer service. Looks like Desert Schools is following in their footsteps, and customer service is a thing of the past!! The If the Manager of this branch cant see that then he is an idiot and should be fired! By the way, two other people behind me closed out there accounts too! read more
