This begins like a horror story from some 70s environmental threat like the greatest movie of the times Empire of the Ants with Joan Collins. I came home and there was a woman running down the street screaming swatting around her head. Then the next day I came home and there were 2 men running and screaming and swatting. I was standing there thinking what was going on, I thought maybe a bad drug reaction maybe. I the dragged my trash can out to the street to hear my neighbor screaming in terror and telling me he got attacked by killer bees. I said to myself oh shit, then I went looking, and there it was bees living in my wall. I called Greg from Desert Swarm, he was super nice and I told him where they were, he came out in the morning and took care of it. My experience with Desert Swarm is consistent with other Yelpers. A swarm of africanized bees arrived and settled on one of my palm trees on Friday. I was greatly concerned, as people in the Tucson area have died as a result of being attacked by one of these bee swarms. I found Greg from Desert Swarm Bee Removal on Yelp. I called late on a Thursday to see when he was available to remove a bee hive from a rental house I own. First off, the fact that he answered the phone after 5 PM tells you something about this business (hardly anyone answers the phone themselves in Tucson, never mind after 5 PM). He made an appointment to take care of it first thing Monday morning. He not only showed up on time Monday (another shock in Tucson), but called before and after to keep me in the loop. He quoted me $150 before seeing the hive in person, and then charged me $250 after seeing it was 4 times the size we originally thought, which I thought was incredibly reasonable. Did I mention this hive was on a two story? I'm always happy to write a great review for businesses follow through and charge a reasonable fee. I had wasps coming into the house and found out I had nests on my roof. I called Desert Swarm Bee & Wasp Removal. Greg had a full day scheduled but was in the area and graciously agreed to come over. He was at my house within 15 minutes! He inspected inside the house and explained where the wasps were most likely to be. He then suited up and went up on the roof. My experience with Greg and his co-worker from Desert Swarm was excellent from start to finish. They came the same day I called about a problem with bees in our bathroom. Within a few minutes Greg had determined that the problem was an Africanized bee hive under our roof. After explaining the options, they immediately set to work removing the large hive, cleaning out the accumulated honey and debris, filling the space with insulation to keep bees out and repairing the whole area. Within an hour and a half the job was done. The charge was very reasonable considering the amount of work they had to do. UPDATE: I called Greg for the second time after spotting bee activity on the north end of my house. It looked like they were going into a crevice or hole. I first noticed the issue on Saturday afternoon, and he was out on Monday morning. Bad news: The bees had found a woodpecker hole and built a reasonably significant hive inside the roof cavity, where some insulation had been pushed away or improperly installed in the first place. YIKES! Good news: He could, and did, help! He had to cut a hole in my roof to get at and remove the hive. I could have chosen NOT to do this, but he explained the complications that would arise. The hotter the weather got, the more the honey and beeswax would melt... coming down through the ceiling and making a giant mess, plus drawing pests. That sounded 100% awful, so we said PLEASE TAKE IT OUT! Not only did he (and his assistant) have things wrapped up in about 90 minutes, they patched, tarred, and sealed the area where they had cut into the roof SO WELL that when I got up on a ladder to look, I couldn't tell where it had been done. We ended up with approximately 30-40lbs of honeycomb, which he said meant it had been going on for several weeks (at least). I'm glad I found and addressed the issue then and not at a later date! Best piece of advice I can give you: check the perimeter of your home and any outbuildings regularly for bee activity. Then call Greg ASAP if you find that there is an issue! THANKS, GREG! We had a large amount of Wasps this year, at any given time we would have 30+ wasps floating in the pool. We called Desert Swarm and they responded immediately and searched the whole property and house removing hives as he found them but unfortunately most were coming from off the property. We were given information on how we could deal with the off property wasps and today I went to get in the pool and saw one wasp the whole time I was in the pool. His company serves a wide swath of Southern Arizona, not just Tucson, including places such as Sells and the I-19 Corridor. We had noticed some unusual activity near our master bedroom window and called Desert Swarm to come out and take a look. Greg came out and found a large hive in the parapet wall above the window. He treated it to kill off the hive and came back the next day to open up the wall and clean out the hive. It was very precarious work on a ladder over 30ft off the ground, but he was extremely fast and professional and had it all cleaned out, sealed up and stuccoed in less than 3 hours.
