Be sure to visit this charming Yarn Store! Whenever we are in Moab, (at least once a year and sometimes twice) I make a point of shopping for yarn here. I always find some treasure to take home with me. The owner is very knowledgeable on a wide range of fiber arts, and is very helpful and welcoming. She stocks an excellent assortment of quality yarns at reasonable prices. It is a small store and they make the most of their limited space. The owner of this shop is so friendly and helpful! I stopped in to buy some yarn to add to my travel crochet blanket and found a perfect yarn to remind me of my time here in Moab. The owner showed my son and husband how she spins yarn while I shopped. It was so neat to see in person! I'm new to crochet and knitting and didn't know how to work with a skeen without knotting it up and she showed me. She even wound my yarn so I can crochet on our way to our next stop. This small town has a decent yarn store - one with good quality yarn, not the cheap yarn they carry at Michael's, Joann's and craft stores. I spotted some needle cases, needles, books, magazines. I learned to knit this winter, and the gals at Desert Thread helped me learn. I would come into the shop with a question, and they showed me how to do it. They helped me choose the right projects, and gave me free patterns. The owners' passion for knitting and crocheting is contagious, and is the main reason I didn't quit when I got frustrated with my projects. This shop has a beautiful selection. My favorite is their wall of colorful hand-dyed wool yarn. I went to stitch night once and it was really fun. I shop there all the time now. read more

I came in to Desert Thread looking for a book on how to knit hats -- I've only been knitting scarves and wanted to try something more challenging. Cathy was so kind and helpful, and got me started on a simple hat pattern. She spent nearly an hour with me, teaching me tips and tricks as I learned how to purl for the first time. I can't recommend this shop enough. They have a great selection of beautiful yarns and the shop owners truly care about their customers and are so passionate about what they do. Wonderful selection and the prices are not bad either. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They carry from standard "Sugar and Cream" in colors I hadn't seen before to beautiful wools to very unusual, unique items. Also needles and hooks. If she's this good when she's tired, I can't imagine how great she would be when firing on all cylinders. They have knit nights at the shop as well. My husband and I just took a 3 week road trip through Nevada, Utah and Colorado. Since I love to knit, I searched out yarn shops along the way. Unfortunately, there are not many, so I was thrilled to find Desert Thread. The owner was so nice and helpful in pointing out local yarns. I bought 1 skein of Woollylizard that is handpainted in beautiful shades of purple, and I bought 2 skeins of Churro wool and alpaca from Cunnington Farms Yarn. I cannot wait to knit them into beautiful shawls! Both of these yarns are local, which I love--my favorite form of souvenir! I love knitting! We go to Moab all the time but we are never able to stop by this shop because we leave for the trails before sun up and don't get back until way late. So this time I made a point to be there in time one day!! It is amazing! The owners are great and she told me bout stitch night that I will for sure be joining next time we are in Moab! They had everything I needed but I took the last of what my aunt asked me to pick up for her and the owner actually told me where to get it when I wasn't in Moab. I can't wait to go back! read more
