So when I was visiting my friend in Phoenix, she wanted to take me to one of her favorites, Encanto Park. Of course, the name immediately made me think of the Disney movie, so naturally we played the Encanto soundtrack all the way there! Unfortunately, we picked a particularly brutal day to visit because it was a blistering 110° in Phoenix. Needless to say, our visit was a pretty quick lap around the park! It was beautiful and appeared to be fairly well maintained and clean. I was curious about why the water was SO green, though. I'm not sure if that's typical or just a result of the heat. There wasn't a whole lot happening while we were there, which wasn't surprising given the temperature. Even Enchanted Island, the amusement park attached to Encanto Park, wasn't open yet because of the heat. One thing I absolutely loved was the drum circle. I could have stood there and watched for quite a while, but we knew we couldn't stay outside for too long in that heat, so we moved along. Overall, the park looked beautifully maintained and fairly clean. I definitely think this would be a great place to hang out, explore, or spend the day on a much more reasonable-temperature day. I'd love to come back when it's not 110° because I have a feeling there's a lot more to experience here than we were able to see during our very hot and very quick visit!

A gem of a green space smack in the middle of central Phoenix -- where I least expected it. You have a number of paved walkways zigzagging through some very nice landscaping with lots of palm trees, an island and a bunch of picnic tables, and crossing over a number of canals and lakes. A big parking lot makes for easy access too.

We took the toddler on a hot summer day to splash around. The splash pad looked well maintained and a lot of kids were having fun running around. There are also some BBQ grills which were being used while we were here for a birthday party going on. As for a little bit of history, this park was first built in 1960! That's old for AZ standards. It was then renovated in 2009. The park is named after an influential agriculturist EW Hudson. The maze here is a public art piece named Peace Labyrinth by Mark Lucking. 2021 Hours: Open: 8 a.m.-10 p.m. now through October

Love the fact they have several checkpoints to rest and enjoy the scenery. It's about a little over a mile hike to the top peak. Once you reach the top peak, amazing 360 views of surrounding Phoenix. Popular spot for an amazing sunset that falls behind the mountains. If you're more adventurous, they also have a different route that offers all rugged terrain from the bottom up. Love this park as there's plenty of parking and restrooms around. Less crowded than other nearby mountain parks but it can get busy during sunset hours. Lots of picnic tables and pavilions to enjoy your stay more.

We rode by a few months ago and discovered that they had installed all new play structures and some great shades! My kids hounded me incessantly about returning so we could play and test everything out. We showed up the other night and they got a chance to try it. They gave it an enthusiastic thumbs-up! There are enough climbing bars to satisfy even the pickiest kid, and there are swings for the non-climbers in the family. There's also a full-size basketball court, with a decent playing surface and hoops that are still in good shape. There are garbage and recycling cans next to the playground and court. The only unfortunate thing is that there is no drinking fountain and no restroom facilities. Make sure to bring plenty of water and a strong bladder to hold it in!
