A few weeks ago my son started to go to the gym consistently 2-3 times a week and I suggested that he should start taking supplements to help with muscle recovery. So I asked my coworkers where they buy their supplements at because they lift weights too and they told me to go check out Designer Body down on Cooke St. As soon as I walked in the door the clerk (I forgot his name, cause I'm so bad with names smfh) greeted me and asked what I was looking for, so I explained that I was just looking for supplements that will help with recovery after lifting weights, cause I have no idea what to buy. Owner and operator Matai Lorenze opened his first shop in 1996. Working out at The Gym Honolulu and selling his products out of his trunk. If you like working out, once in a while we need a little somethin', somethin' to help us recover from a hard workout. This is where Designer Body & Nutrition comes into play. Yes, there are other health nutrition shops around town like - GNC, The Vitamin Shoppe, Nutrishop, Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, Muscle Inc., & Hardcore 808............but my all time favorite health nutrition shop has always been Designer Body. I guess I kinda favor this nutrition store, because the owner - Maitai Lorenzo, is a fellow gym bruddah from the original - "The Gym", as well as Gold's Gym. As I walked in today, I was hoping to see my old friend, and fellow gym bruddah, but unfortunately he was not in. No matter because his wonderful staff - Brian & Duke were working there today, and Brian was able to help me. I asked some questions about a product, as I was looking for some L-Arginine in pill form. Brian was very helpful in answering my questions & addressing my needs, he also provided some additional information of other health supplements to me which was very helpful. The nice thing about the Designer Body Nutrition shop is that they carry some very unique brand supplement items which I don't see at other nutrition shops. They also sell some pretty cool t-shirts too! (see pic!) The local staff at Designer Body is very knowledgeable, & friendly...............easy to talk to, and very helpful. The shop is located in the Kakaako area, just a few yards down from the Cooke Street Diner area. There is free parking in the small private parking lot (which is shared by a few businesses), but finding parking was not an issue today. Let's face it gang............ you can't stay young forever, and you can never outrun father time..........but what you can do for yourself is eat a little better, get in a little exercise on a regular basis, and try to age gracefully! read more

At first, I was a bit intimidated to come here because I am not in shape and far from having a "designer" looking body lol! Also, I expected to see these big, muscle, meat heads floating around the store like clouds. But, I was desperate and needed something to help fuel my run for my PTT test because I found myself "dying" out towards the end of my race. So, I called and the guy that answered the phone was super nice and made me feel comfortable about coming into the store. Anyway, I went to the store, and the guys that work there are handsome... and of course extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their products. Yes, they have nice really bodies, but I didn't feel intimidated because they were super duper nice. Also, I didn't feel pressured to buy anything at all. However, I ended up buying this Carbo-lyn pre workout drink because I was desperate. The next morning, I passed my PTT test and was so excited I came back for some weight loss products. Right now I am currently on their new thermogenic New Jacked City.......I don't feel jitters at all and I don't crash at the end of the day. I haven't lost any weight yet (it's only been 4 days) but will definitely update my review when I do....with photos ;) read more

TRIED AND TRUE Designer Body has been around for quite some time now, which is a great sign. I trust them and definitely recommend them to n00bz AND pros alike. Like I mentioned in my previous review, Designer Body is a reputable resource for health- and fitness-conscious supplements and nutrition. GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. ain't got nothin' on these guys. Plus, they're locally owned and managed. They look like they know what they're talking about, too, because everyone who works there seems pretty fit. That's a good sign to me. CUSTOMER SERVICE There's no need to be "shame" about sharing your personal health and fitness goals because they want you to get where you want/need to be. And they can give you some options. IMO, Designer Body has the whole customer service thing down, and they're genuine. And no matter how long it is between visits, Brian always remembers me. He even gets my order ready when he sees me pull in or walk in, so everything is ready to go when I get to the counter. Talk about service! Also, if you want to be featured on the Designer Body instagram, let them know and take a picture or selfie with them! LOCATION & PARKING Designer Body has moved out of its former Imperial Plaza location. (Sorry so late on my update.) You'll find these guys on Cooke Street in Kaka'ako. Free parking in their lot. Look for them across that mini complex that has Karen's Kitchen, the next block "makai" of Cooke Street Diner. If you pass Halekauwila, you've just missed it. FIT4YOUHI This place is also one of the designated FREE pickup locations for the Fit4youHI meals. I believe Designer Body sometimes has extras for available to purchase if you miss the weekly Saturday ordering deadline. Honest review. This review has been long overdue. I have been coming to Designer Body for a few years now, on and off but I receive the same generosity and great customer service each visit. Today, I went in after a year long break (since before COVID) and was greeted by Brian and Duke. They always manage to remember me despite seeing so many people through the days. Both are very friendly, polite, and will treat you with the same amount of respect whether you're big or small. They are both very experienced in the nutrition industry and can answer any questions you have and lead you in the right direction to reach your goals. I know from experience that they're not there to make money off you by selling things you don't need. PARKING Free parking right in front of the store. Never had a problem finding parking there. SHOP The shop has everything you need to get started, maintain, or exceed your goals. It ranges from beginner to pro, perfect for everyone! They have a variety of options in each and every category, pre-workout, creatine, bcaa, post-workout, protein, clothes, equipment, you name it! They also have their own line of supplements called DB Force that works from my experience. So far I've only found INTEK supplement products here, no where else. Tip: it is actually cheaper to buy from designer body than it is to purchase this brand of supplement on the INTEK website. Crazy! BOTTOM LINE If you're a beginner (like me) or pro, this shop has everything you need, with great local customer service, and reasonable pricing. If you feel like you don't have time to research or watch YouTube videos on reviews, just go to designer body. Exclusivity - for some products they are the exclusive distributor for them. Sweet! 2. Customer service - warm, friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. Sometimes it's intimidating going into a place whose target audience are fitness-fanatics and super muscle-y! At least I was intimated... but they let me know if I had any questions, just stroll on up and ask. Came over here when the usual GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, and Vitamin World would not do it for me. I've decided to check things out over here and see what they have to offer. I had a challenge looking for them, but thank goodness for the Yelp reviews on this place and I found it when it was the last place I saw. I have seen the shirts around 24 Hour Fitness, so they were the real deal. I am a crazy marathon dude, so I wanted something that will help me with the muscle endurance and very fast recovery in between marathons. I talked to Brian about my goals and aspirations and he pointed out the products he thought were helpful to me. While the prices were kind up there and I was on a budget, he didn't make me feel obligated to buy. That's the awesome thing about this place. While I do like to support small businesses in these economic times, it's good that I don't feel like I have to buy something when I am comparing prices too. I was coming off of 2 marathons about a month of each other, so I wanted something that would help me bounce back quicker, so I can do more on da mainland. While Designer Body can be compared to the corporations of GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, and Viamin World, you can't beat here. While prices can be comparable to pricey, its always best to come here first and explore your options. I'm sure the folks at the other stores know what their talking about, but Brian takes it 2 notches further and explains it more in detail. You have made me a believer! read more

This is the place I refer ALL my friends/families/coworkers/acquaintances to get protein and amino bccas. WHY? The owner, Brian is honest, helpful, and so nice! He remembers my boyfriend and I, and makes us feel so welcomed when we stop by to pick up some products. He asks us what we are looking for and gives us his honest opinion. I really appreciate that since these things aren't cheap. I haven't drank much protein, but my boyfriend has and his favorite protein is from Intek. Their chocolate protein is to die for. It seriously does not even taste like protein powder (or I must be immune to it). I think Designer body is the only place to get Intek. Their aminos are great too! It does the job for me. I practically spend more than half of my off work hours here. I only recently started getting into taking better care of my health and thanks to the awesome staff here, I get to try things that are good for my body and taste good at the same time! I've been spoiled by the Intek protein and their yummy flavors.. I can't drink other protein shakes anymore. It's just not the same. And omg, the fat burner I take, on recommendation from Jordan, works wonders as a pre workout. I definitely feel a difference benching. I can push myself more because I have a lot more energy and feel amazing! They also sell a variety of BCAAs unique and exclusive to Designer Body. I come here every time I run out of protein, Power Carb and Aminos (which Mai Tai had a hand in designing himself.) Brian & Kawika are always very helpful and patient with all my questions and always have great product suggestions after I explain my fitness goals. Designer Body is a nutrition, supplement and tanning shop located conveniently in the heart of town. The store is not hard to find, its located on the ground level of the Imperial Plaza next to BMW and across from Yanagi Sushi/The Lofts. Brian is on of the partners of the store and is very knowledgeable about all the supplements and products that the store has to offer. They sell their own line, which in my opinion is of great quality and very cheap. I personally take their vitamins, BCAA's, glutamine and waxy maize with great success! Both Maitai and Brian have had a life long passion for body building, nutrition/health and competed with great success. Maitai in fact is a pro body builder. If you look on their wall you'll see pictures of great body builders and figure models that they support that have come out Hawaii. Who knows maybe you'll be on their wall one day too. You don't have to be a hardcore lifter to come into the shop too. They sell a bunch of other great supplements that improve your health and mind. If you're also looking to get a tan on and are short on time, they have two tanning beds and one stand up tanning booth under the name "Tan Hawaii". It's not a huge shop but they have the supplements that matter. Don't waste your time at GNC. Brian is friendly and knowledgeble. If you got questions don't be afraid to ask.
