I love Destination Art for your toddler who can feed him or herself and walk. Jules is warm and makes you feel welcomed from the moment you step into her business. My daughter was suppose to start a school/ child care program and I got postponed for a later starting date so my daughter went to Destination Art for a few weeks while I was interviewing for new contracts. I always wanted to go to this place since my daughter was a baby and too young to go, but I started out taking her to date nights the owner Miss Julie puts on. Date nights was her introduction to the loving playful artistic environment Destination Art provides. My daughter started going regularly to DA At age 3 and she was so happy playing there all day with different child guided play activities. She chose when to play with other children or when to do: art, ballet or gymnastics, yoga, and handheld walks around neighborhood to Coit Tower, library and playgrounds. Also the date nights are a great opportunity to spend quality time with the partner and taste some of North Beach delightful food! Destination Art seems to be a fun, instructive, & creative outlet for children --esp. since so many public schools have eliminated creative arts programs due to lack of funding. Destination Art fills this void and I am all for it. HOWEVER, I feel compelled to comment via this venue on the PARENTS of the children who attend. Destination Art held a Halloween event this past Saturday. All well and good. BUT it was really dismaying to see their costumed children running up and down the street eating peanuts and throwing the shells onto the street. The sidewalk was littered with peanut shells. When I telephoned Julie (DA's owner) today to bring this to her attention, her response was that peanuts had been served inside and perhaps "the shells stuck to the kids' shoes when they walked outside." Seriously? Besides all those "amazing" art projects, how about including some lessons in good citizenship or just plain good manners? How about teaching the kids it's NOT OK to litter? Or would that be stifling creativity? read more

A hidden gem in North Beach, D-art is my 5 year old's FAVORITE place in town. Julie opened the studio with grown-ups in mind but quickly transformed her adorable space into a kids art studio. She offers Saturday morning workshops often using found objects to create works of art (my little guy made and painted a "robot" out of some milk cartons and strawberry baskets). In the summer she runs a fabulous art camp program at very reasonable rates. And for the grown-ups, twice a month she has a drop-off "Movie night" for $15 per kid! Best babysitting deal in town right in the heart of North Beach. Typically the Movie nights start with a craft, then a kids movie is projected on a wall, the kids have an "intermission" and a snack, the pick-up is at 9:00p.m. My little guy LOVES it and my wife and I stroll down to the street to pick a nice bistro for dinner. Destination Art is indeed a gem in the the heart of North Beach! Julie is amazingly creative, the kids (and their parents) love her fun and laid back approach to projects. She has a true gift for making everyone feel artistic and truly talented- which I think is huge for city kids. With so much going on around them it seems it'd be difficult for most kids to stand out but everyone stands out at Destination Art. The small class size and the individualized attentions students get make for memorable summers and parties! Julie's encouraging spirit and love for Arts & Crafts (which doesn't even begin to describe all the elaborate projects she comes up with!) make Destination a unique and special place. Wonderful place for children, with its founder Julie who is amazing with them. Lots of activities are offered through the day, from arts and crafts to playing with a large selection of toys, to an excursion to the awesome Joe DiMaggio park nearby. Kids are well cared for, food is provided, a nap room, and several adults all day to keep an eye on each child. I love bringing my toddler to Destination Art because he always has a great time there. We love Destination Art! My daughter has attended many art classes here and we're always impressed with the art projects, she brings home. We love them. It's such a fun place and did I mention that they offer a drop-off childcare during the day and date night on Fridays. The price is right and the teachers are so friendly. I only wished we lived closer to attend weekly. We live across the city but we still trek out to North Beach to enjoy ourselves. I love this place and Julie. read more

I can't say enough good about Destination Art. Julie and her staff are amazing, creative, fun, AND great educators. They really understand kids and the kids love them for it. My son has been going there for about six months now, and I couldn't be happier. I always feel very secure leaving him there, and grateful at the end of the day to hear about all the fun he's had. Julie is also very responsive and easy to get in touch with. And honestly, I think she gives just as much support to us moms as she does the kids! This place it's dirty, as soon as we came in it smell like poop. Later I saw a couple of soiled dippers just there left in a couch. In general the hole is messy, dirty and smells bad. I can't believe kids are playing between soil diapers. I didn't even let my daughter use the bathroom. read more

What a treasure! We were visiting the city for a couple of days and came upon Destination Art. We dropped in so my 4-year old and 1-year old could play for a while. What a fun and stimulating environment. My 4-year old had a blast playing with the toys and then doing a fun and creative craft project. My 1-year old had so much fun exploring the space as well. I rarely post yelp reviews, but had to for the excellent experience provided by Destination Art. Julie accepted my visiting 10 year old grandson at a last minute request. We had looked high and low for a place that could accept him at such short notice for a few days. We arrived abit early for the interview, and she was coming down the street with all the kids in tow, safely, and well organized considering the age range and different needs! The location was clean, and colorfully decorated with children's artwork. My grandson's first day was filled with activities and actually enjoyed his first session of yoga! The staff allowed him to share with a few children boxing lessons and had a busy bee day. His highlight was building a fort with several children. Highly recommend especially if you are visiting San Francisco with children and require excellent care for your sweetheart. Thank you! read more

If there was an option for more than 5 stars, I would give Destination Art more. I agree with all of the previous reviews, Destination Art is a fantastic place! My oldest daughter (4 1/2 yrs old) has been going to Destination Art on a drop-in basis since she was 2. She LOVES it. Destination art is play based but incorporates a ton of art & through art, a ton of learning. I have some of the most beautiful art framed in my house that our daughter has brought home. Julie is one of the most caring people I have ever met. Her passion for children, art & learning is explosive. Destination Art provides a great social environment for kids to learn about playing, sharing, fighting, learning to communicate feelings, etc.... Our youngest daughter (21 months) just started going 1 day/week with her older sister. The girls love it. Destination Art is a neighborhood gem & if you are looking for a place for your children to go to learn, explore, create & grow...I would definitely recommend checking out DA. Destination Art has pre-school, drop-in days , movie nights, summer camp, and so much more..she even host birthday parties! We are going to one there this weekend. read more

Julie always has her doors open. She provides a safe environment for the kids and I love how creative her curriculum is. They have regular arts projects, an onsite piano, a friendly (and tiny) snake in enclosed glass, another animal as well (I think), a friendly mini dog, and *huge bonus points* for the train selection that has always been my little guy's favorite. My Family just recently relocated here from Florida and we were in much need for a night out. From the fast pace relocating of our entire family across country. I called and spoke with Julie and was just gonna stop by and check the place out. My daughters launched into play mode and that has rarely ever happened when trying to leave them with someone.
