It's such a challenging time... NOW (covid). Yet, getting out on the river made everything seem just so right and ok. Safe. Just can't go wrong (& of it did... they got your back). Great trip and will definitely go again. Love this outpost!!!

When our 25th anniversary trip to Kauai did not work out because of Covid we were looking for a fun close to home Covid safe experience for our family of 4. We love Kayaking and we love Detroit so this seemed like the natural choice. I had been stalking the outpost for a while on Facebook before we booked our paddle (long before Covid it was on my list of things to do). We LOVED it! We saw parts of Belle Isle we had never seen before and watching the sunset was beautiful. We look forward to doing again next year (I hope to do it many times with friends, couples, etc).

The whole experience was super well organized -- from booking to check-in, everything ran smoothly and on time. Huge shoutout to Brad, who led our tour. He struck that perfect balance between being friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell he genuinely enjoys what he does -- he shared fun bits of Detroit history and local trivia as we paddled, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included no matter their experience level. A few of us were total beginners, and he made it easy (and fun) to get the hang of it. The route itself was beautiful -- great views of the skyline, calm water, and just enough challenge to keep things interesting. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and light activity, and a really unique way to see the city from a new angle. Would absolutely recommend Detroit River Sports for any team outing or weekday/end adventure. If you can, ask for Brad -- he made the day.

Detroit River Sports offers several options to accommodate small groups and individuals. They provide all equipment needed for the tour. The guided tour is about 2hours. The staff are fantastic and very informative. I'm not an expert kayaker but was able to easily navigate the waters. The Detroit River is a bit challenging to navigate due to the current, but the guides are there to help if needed. I learned a lot along the way as we stopped periodically to learn some history about Detroit and the homes we encountered on the canals. I had a blast and want to buy my own kayak!

Our first time was on a Saturday for a couple drinks and appetizers. We shared the Reuben Rings and they were so great! They're a basket of onions rings with sauerkraut, corned beef, Swiss & thousand island. They were so good we ordered them again when we stopped by a couple weekends later. The jalapeño wontons were also good. They were not spicy at all and were served with sweet chili sauce. You get 5 in an order and there were 4 of us in our party. They were good but I don't think I'd get them again. All sandwiches are served with chips otherwise fries are $3 extra. Obviously I ordered the fries but that was a bit steep of an up-charge for fries that aren't homemade (in my opinion). Their Smash Burgers are great. I ordered the Irish Fisherman on brioche instead of Texas toast. It was so tasty, I'd certainly order it again. My husband had the Mean Marauder which had bacon, spicy BBQ, jalapeños & whiskey glazed onions. It was the perfect amount of spicy. I really liked it! They do charge I think $1 for ranch was also a bit steep in my opinion and I think I wish I had been told that when asking for it. Our friend ordered the Dirty Birdie and it was pretty sad. The brioche bun was great, there were two premade (purchased frozen) chicken tenders on it that barely filled the bun, barely any onions and almost no dirty sauce to speak of. She was disappointed and didn't finish it. We should've asked if the tenders were homemade or not. We were there on a Saturday and ordered a Bloody Mary and I think it was maybe $7. It came with cheese, salami, a pickle & olives. We came on Sunday for the Bloody Mary bar and it was different than expected. You build your drink from a dry erase checklist. Spicy Vodka, salami & cheese are all an up-charge. I'd definitely say the biggest disappointment is the Bloody Mary bar that isn't a bar and you'll likely pay more for one on a Sunday than on any other given day. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean and newly renovated. The bathrooms are in rough shape! They're sort of being remodeled, I think. One had no paper towel, the other had no soap or toilet paper, one had holes in the wall and the other was 1/2 or 3/4 remodeled. I think there are 3 or 4 restrooms so I'm only speaking for the two I used since I've been there. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I think I'll stick to beer, smash burgers and Reuben rings!!

This is Detroit Areas best kept secret! Who knew that this type of white water adventure was in Macomb County, let alone anywhere in the Midwest. Heck, I thought that Macomb County was where everyone goes to get out on Lake St. Clair, The Greatest Lake! For the Best River Paddling in the Midwest, start off by grabbing some friends and begin your adventure at Yates; the first two or so miles move quite fast, so you are basically just steering around tight meanders and viewing the scenic high banks full of white cedars, Paw Paw Trees, deer and blue herons. Once you're beyond the foot bridge in River Bends, the nature still abounds, however, the river is still pretty technical but is tamed a bit in comparison. This stretch is not for kids or others if there is high water. This is the best Urban (but feels like "Up-North Michigan") paddling I have ever done. This place needs to be on the "How do we get Amazon HQ2 here, because this is the Clinton River that is not to be missed. Make a Pit Stop in Downtown Utica; where you can stop off, tie up your kayak and grab a burger and beer at one of the many outdoor cafes. Finally, you can finish up the voyage at Heritage Park, which has a boat lauch that is handicapped accessible. The Sterling Heights sections of the Clinton River are a close second and more family friendly from Heritage Park all the way to Rotary Park. And Budd Park in Clinton Township all the way down to Downtown Mt. Clemens is another close 2nd or 3rd as it is wider and deeper but very tranquil compared to what's upstream. For Great Lakes Coastal Paddling, don't miss out on Lake St. Clair Metropark as Black Creek Marsh is a wildfowl and angler's dream. The area up by Historic Downtown New Baltimore is at the top of Anchor Bay and there you have crystal clear Great Lakes waters, clean beaches, and an Historic Downtown with plenty of places to eat and have libations. Congrats to Macomb County for having the best paddling experience in the Midwest. The guy who's pushing all of this...what's his name Gerry or something or another deserves a huge raise! Just sayin....!
