It's hard to know how to accurately review Ferndale. It's a very nice, well-kept suburban town with…read moresome interesting shops. We particularly like The Rocket, which is a fun shop with toys, candy, and various peraphernalia such as superhero merchandise, etc. We also like the dining and pub scene there, particularly the The Oakland which has great cocktails and sports a new look. In other words, this is a great town in which to spend a day or evening and 9-Mile on both sides of Woodward, particularly the west side, are fun strolls. Woodward has a few things as well and Troy St. also has some commercial opportunities. On the cautionary side (and this is a minor thing but one that stuck out to me), the fact that Woodward runs right through town makes it almost feel like a highway is right on top of the town center area. So while Ferndale is still a fun visit, this means that any sort of quaintness is gone. This is often expected with a small town. But as long as you know that, the attraction is still there. There is plenty of accessible, affordable parking which helps with a visit to an older area not originally meant for the volume of humanity it currently sees.

Why am I paying to patronize your city anyway; and watch the man that is running for mayor, Sean Hurley drunk and throwing things at the waitress. Never going back to Ferndale!!!!

The chicken cutlet was so crispy! I added the Marsala sauce and pasta y fagioli. Everything was excellent and I can't wait to go again. For those ordering platters through take out, bring a plate if you aren't taking it home. I ended up using some of the sandwich butcher paper as a makeshift plate.

I ordered the chicken cutlet with two different sauces, the zucchini fritters, the Tuscan kale salad, the mascarpone polenta, and the Valdo sandwich. Everyone knows the chicken is awesome so o won't go into detail about it. The mascarpone polenta was creamy and flavorful. It still light and not dense which polenta can sometimes be. I'd get it again. Even though everything was delicious, the kale salad was probably my favorite. The kale was tender so it was prepped perfectly since it can be tough otherwise. I love how it was dressed. Every bite had dressing but it wasn't dripping wet. I ate half of it a few days later and it was just as tasty and fresh without being wilted at all. Great flavor and texture with the toasted breadcrumbs, pecorino cheese, and some brightness from lemon. I'd go back for the salad alone but when I do go, I'm sure we'll place another order for all the goods again.

My daughter didn't care for the pasta as it tasted very strongly of garlic, but the texture was amazing and the portion size was filling. The pizza was so good!! It was just the right amount of crispy, chewy, cheesy, and saucy. The chopped salad was the hit of the night and plenty big enough to share. Our server was great and I loved the interior, my only complaint would be that it was so loud.

The way our table was set up was not convenient, we were by the wall with one entrance point, so the people on the booth side, had a long way to slide in and out with 6 people to a side. The restaurant was not busy and the service was slow and inattentive. Sometimes it seems that when the tip is included for a large group, the server doesn't feel the need to exert any effort. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their food. The lobster avocado toast was the standout. I had the farmers veggie skillet and it was just ok: Eggs were barely cooked and the potatoes were over cooked and dry. I did like the cheesy veggies. As a final note, any restaurant that can't split a check in our day and age, loses points for me.

I was surprised the menu wasn't more Italian / pasta focused, but there were a lot of interesting options. I ordered the Gemelli and split the beet salad with my bf. Others also got the beet salad but added a protein. I also got a specialty margarita that was good, but expensive ($15) for the size. My Gemelli was delicious and a huge portion. My bf ate a bit of it and I still had a large carryout box. There was so much leftover we split that and the rest of the salad for our dinner. All in all everyone enjoyed their meal and commented on the nice staff and good food. The staff was particularly nice and stopped by several times. The bad? It was 30 degrees out and we were seated by the front door. Every time someone came in we were hit with a blast of cold air. Some people were clueless and literally stood holding the door open while waiting for friends. So - Como's should build an entryway of some sort to shield their guests from freezing air every time someone enters. I can't imagine what it would be like on a zero-teen degree day - which is pretty common in Michigan. Otherwise good experience and we will come back now that we know they have good food and a new menu.

Ordered the mushroom Detroit style with garlic- quite greasy and good once but not a repeat favorite. The meatball appetizer was dry and not very tasty. A true example of "don't judge a book by its cover". We walk in, non peak, with eight folks and they have no issues with us. Quickly seated, orders taken, food delivered. Bam bam bam! The staff has always been great to us and now to our friends. The food is off-the-chain delicious. primarily Ukrainian fair, but you can find several other options and there's ALWAYS something for everyone. For the first five years I came here I ordered Christine's Famous Bomb Burrito. It's that good and I wasn't going to dive into the questionable stuff on the menu. Shame on me! Baba's Pierogis and their Potato Pancakes are wonderful but I recommend the Combo Platter so you can also experience the sausage and the sauerkraut (Kapusta). A quick chuckle: Mrs. E. only eats cold borscht. So we order it and it cools on the table and becomes our dessert. Most everyone I introduce to Christine's become regulars and it ain't because of me! 08/25
