A good experience for the 'new' Como's. Seven of us stopped in for a late lunch Saturday and were seated promptly. I was surprised the menu wasn't more Italian / pasta focused, but there were a lot of interesting options. I ordered the Gemelli and split the beet salad with my bf. Others also got the beet salad but added a protein. I also got a specialty margarita that was good, but expensive ($15) for the size. My Gemelli was delicious and a huge portion. My bf ate a bit of it and I still had a large carryout box. There was so much leftover we split that and the rest of the salad for our dinner. All in all everyone enjoyed their meal and commented on the nice staff and good food. The staff was particularly nice and stopped by several times. The bad? It was 30 degrees out and we were seated by the front door. Every time someone came in we were hit with a blast of cold air. Some people were clueless and literally stood holding the door open while waiting for friends. So - Como's should build an entryway of some sort to shield their guests from freezing air every time someone enters. I can't imagine what it would be like on a zero-teen degree day - which is pretty common in Michigan. Otherwise good experience and we will come back now that we know they have good food and a new menu. read more

Absolutely loved our visit to COMO's. We ordered the Granny pizza and it was unreal. The crust had that perfect crisp on the outside, but then it was soft and almost buttery when you bit in. It literally melted in your mouth. The sweet-savory combo with the caramelized onions and gooey cheese was so good. It hit all the right notes. I didn't expect to love it this much but now I can't stop thinking about it. Literally salivating now. Service was good. One of my favorite restaurants! Service is always top notch. Friendly, attentive, personable, and helpful. My friends and I have been coming for a few weeks for trivia night every Tuesday, and we luckily get paired with the same awesome staff. It's nice to have a familiar face each time - I can't brag about the service enough! Food is delicious. To be fair, I've only gotten the pizzas - but you really can't go wrong with any pizza. They always hit the spot, and taste great. You can even split a small (4 pieces) with a friend, and I think that's filling for me. Atmosphere feels cozy, yet you have space from everyone else. It's one big room, yet everything feels separated and you don't need to talk louder to hear your table. It's a really nice place to go with your friends, have great food, and maybe have a drink or two. Trivia is the best and makes me keep coming back. We went after a visit to the zoo with a large group of six adults and six children - the decor is cute inside, with excellent servers. Our waitress was friendly and helpful especially in finding allergen-free options for my son. The Cubano pizza was my favorite, though the margarita was delicious as well. Had a friend visiting from out of state and we were hungry. Como's has been on my list of places to try for awhile now, and this was the perfect opportunity. We were sat after a short wait. The staff were friendly and informative. The menu offers a fair amount of food choices, not just pizza. When I saw they had pickle pizza, I knew I had to give it a try. Como's has always been the best since I was a kid! I think the menu has been trimmed down quite a bit but the food we had was amazing!! For the appetizer we had the cheese bread which is kind of like a small cheese pizza with marinara sauce on the side. It was awesome!! My friend ordered a pasta dish called baked baci and he was blown away! He said it kind of reminded him of lasagna and it was such a huge order that he took half of it home. I ordered the white bean chicken chili and it had huge pieces of chicken in it. The taste was awesome but I was expecting it to be thicker in consistency. It was really more like a soup but it was good. We brought home two pieces of the cheese bread appetizer and I ate the leftovers before the night was over!! read more

Went here for my birthday and was pretty impressed by this place! Definitely known for their pizza and the whole restaurant is decorated tastefully around that. For drinks i got the soho house margarita. It was okay and definitely nothing special. I wasnt to impressed by their drink menu in general with the limited cocktail and beer options. For appetizers we got the antipasto salad, cheese bread and the fried ravioli. Both were extremely tasty and hot when they were brought out. The marinara sauce and pesto complimented both dishes. The salad was amazing. All of the ingredients tasted extremely fresh and the dressing was very unique and had a nice zing to it. For an entree i got the small roni pizza. It came with pepperoni, Calabrian chillies, garlic and basil. There was a ton of garlic on this pizza which is my favorite so i was happy about that. Although for having peppers it wasn't very spicy - i added my own red pepper flakes. Overall this place was great! The food was all delicious and came out quick for being so busy. Great spot for Detroit style pizza! Joshua J pizza was delicious 10/10! Good balance of sweet and hot, jalapeños are not too overpowering as they are dried up. BBQ Chicken pizza was decent 6/10. BBQ was not well distributed and I would've preferred slightly larger cuts of chicken as opposed to the small chicken cubes. Pineapple was a nice addition. We had an amazing waitress, there was a DJ playing music outside, and the atmosphere was lively. Had a Saturday reservation at 5:45pm for a group of 5 people. We stood at the door for a good 5 minutes before we were approached. We ordered our food by 5:55pm - a large pizza, a small pizza, a salad, and a chicken piccata. 6:45pm rolls around - our server hadn't checked in on us once. Our drinks were all long gone. We had to get his attention by tapping on his shoulder as he walked past us, clearly avoiding eye contact with our table. We asked for an update on the food. 10min later he came back, "your food is in the system but there's still 5 tickets ahead of you". No problem, but an update would've been appreciated. At that point it was 7:00pm. We'd been waiting for over an hour. 7:20pm comes around - still no update from our server, who was avoiding us like the plague. I've worked in restaurants before and understand that the kitchen gets backed up - but inform your table of what's happening and offer an apology at the minimum. Another 20min goes by. A food runner brings out a salad and informs us that only half of our order is ready. We had a show elsewhere for 7:45pm and did not have time to wait any longer for our food, so politely asked to cancel our ticket. Our server then came to our table for the first time in an hour and informed us "for the future, Friday's and Saturday's are pretty busy, so plan for about an hour wait on pizza". Got it. However, we'd been there for nearly 2 hours at that point and were not informed of this nor given any kind of update or apology throughout. Our drinks were not comped which I found strange as well. I have become less and less impressed with comos for a while now. They frequently quote you times for pickup when you order online and I have frequently shown up on time and wait 20+ minutes for my order (after it was supposed to be available for pickup). No apology. No discount for the wait. Just the hostess saying "I don't know what's taking so long" and walking back into the kitchen and ignoring her post until the food is ready. I probably won't order from here again because the last five or six times I've ordered this seems to be a trend. read more

I was skeptical to come here for a dinner and drinks night. Comos was a place I frequented over 15 years ago for dancing and cheap drinks (with great memories), but not dinner. To drink I had a No Bees Were Harmed. It was unique and delicious. They have a good beer selection too. To start, we got the Buffalo wings and bacon bbq wings. Both were great and crispy, though not much bacon flavor on the latter. I preferred the Buffalo which were fairly spicy and definitely had a kick to them. I got The Granny pizza and added green olives. The pizza was crispy and toppings on point. The ranch (a must for me with pizza) tasted homemade. It was my friend's birthday and our waiter brought us a complimentary cookie for the table to celebrate. That leads me to the service. Our waiter, Mitchell, was outgoing, attentive, and described the drinks when questioned. We sat outside on the patio which had a laid back vibe. It was busy but didn't feel crowded. Como's is a classic . I think everyone in Ferndale and the surrounding cities like me in Royal Oak have tried it. I've been there around 35-40 times over the last decade. They do have great food other than their pretty legendary pizza. Summertime is the best time to go, have a couple pops in the very comfy outdoor seating. Great for people watching too, right on the corner Woodward and Camborne.Try it once and see if you just have to go back for more:-). This is hands-down, the best Detroit style Pizza. While I don't have a gluten allergy, I tried the gluten-free crust once with a friend, and was blown away at the texture and taste. I have been back again to get the pizza with black olives, spinach, onions, and dill, and I had it on the gluten-free crust. The crust is thin and airy, yet deliciously crunchy on the sides and bottom. The flavors are terrific. The staff seemed very friendly as well, even to a single older female diner like myself. Just read the review from another patron there Saturday and wanted to share our similar and even worse experience. We were seated on the patio, which was about half full when we arrived for 5:45 reservations. Ordered our drinks and a pizza at 6. By 7, we noticed no one in the patio was being served food except at the bar, and several people (including us) were asking their servers for updates. Ours referred us to the manager Jason, who avoided us but told the table behind us there were 100 pizzas in the oven, there was nothing he could do, and waits of up to 2 hours on weekends should be expected. By 7:30, we had no updates and flagged down Jason to cancel our pizza and pay for our drinks. He was immediately combative, said "we don't have to" when I asked why no one informed us one pizza could take 2 hours, bragged about working at Buddy's and other places, said obviously we don't know pizza places and everyone from the area expects to wait 2 hours for food on a weekend and laughed when I said we were from out of town. Rudest experience we have ever had. Clearly this restaurant expects to last forever on its prior reputation. Go anywhere else for Detroit style pizza! read more

I ordered a turkey Cobb salad that tasted like something I could have thrown together at home and a side of dry rubbed wings. We came for dinner on a very busy Friday night and it was a fun experience I'd repeat. We were greeted and seated immediately for our 6pm reservation even though we were about 15 minutes late. Though tables are close-ish, it didn't feel like a cafeteria style dining experience, which it sometimes can when you're so close to other tables. Our server was warm and friendly and drinks came out fast. Food was a little slow, but I know it takes awhile to properly cook a Detroit style square pizza, so we didn't mind. It took about 30 minutes, but we did request that everything come out together, and it did - wings, salad, pizzas. Firstly, I highly recommend the pizza - it's absolutely delicious and deserves 5-stars. Yummy sauce, fresh toppings, crunchy crust, fun pies to choose from. We had the Medical Weight Loss which is very meaty, and I had the Wimp which is a deliciously spicy vegetarian pie with hot honey drizzle. So yummy even reheated the next day. The salad was good but not great - we got the Greek chopped, but I think I'd get the spring & beet one next time - I like spring mix so much more than iceberg or romaine. The wings were also good but not great - fried fine with a tangy sauce and the dressings are homemade. I will for sure return just for pizza, and in the Summer you can't beat their patio. Been wanting to give this pizza spot a try for sometime now and it didn't disappoint. We had the vegan Shed pizza with gluten free crust and it was delicious. The crust was surprisingly good for being gluten free, the sauce was very tasty, and the rest was very flavorful. We also had the Chopped Greek Salad minus the feta which was good but just lacking something. Our server was very good patiently answering any questions, knew the menu well, and was happy to accommodate us. The place has a very nice welcoming vibe. Two bars one indoor and one outdoor. The decor is nice inside and the outdoor patio is huge with plenty of seating and televisions to watch a game if you want. My only reason for not giving five stars is because like I said the Greek Salad was lacking a little something and the pizza was very good but could have used a little more toppings for the price. I haven't been here in a very long time and l won't be back again. We had a party of 10. I attempted to order chicken piccata. They were out of that. Several of us asked for diet cokes, we were brought coke zero. 4 of us ordered the fried cheese ravioli. 2 of them were brought. An hour goes by and asking several different people about the orders. Finally someone ends up telling us they ran out. We really couldn't order anything else since everyone else was done eating and their food was boxed up. Wasn't compensated. No manager came over.
