I am all about leaving a great review. However, my complaint is not so much about Dr. Hymas than it is the follow up of his office. I went to see Dr. Hymas on March 16th after 6 days of extreme pain from a Chalazion. Dr. said 9 times out of 10 hot compresses and a steroid ointment would help it clear up in 7 to 10 days. If not, give us a call and we will surgically remove it for you as we know this can be very painful. 8 days later no improvement. I called the office to get in to have it removed only to be told no appointment until MAY 25TH! Really.....Ill cut it out myself. Appt setter says basically "Deal with it". Are you kidding me......you can't take 15 min out your busy day to remove this very painful infection? You want me to wait 2 - 3 months? I just don't get it! Again - I thought Dr. Hymas himself was helpful at initial visit. Follow up - not so much - he probably doesnt even know - his office does. In short - I found someone who will fit me in in 2 days. Guess i have a new Eye Doctor! read more

Dr. Hymas has been an extraordinary Ophthalmologist for me and my family members for last many years. He has a kind and professional personality which we give it an A+. However, this note is in regard to his office/front desk who handle the accounting. In my last visit with my son, we made 2 calls to prior to our appointment to find our financial obligations for my son's visit. My son who is a college student is no longer covered by VSP under my policy after age 22. We wanted to make sure what exactly must pay. The very clear response over the phone both times by accounting representative was $65. Although, my son was not fully examined and his eyes were not dilated, the office billed my/his health insurance for additional $190 for a complete eye examination! Now, in addition to what we paid ($65), we're asked to pay another $40 for his medical co-pay. This is something that was never communicated with us. It's not about $40, it's all about courtesy and accountability. I'm working with my health insurance to figure out the legitimacy of this charge. My suggestion is to be extremely careful with what Dr. Hymas's staff tell you on the phone regarding your obligation. read more

I had cataract surgery with Dr. Hymas yesterday. I was totally freaked out about somebody messing with my eyes. He did a wonderful job of calming me down and preparing me for the procedure. I was in and out of the procedure in less than 10 minutes. I had one day of semi discomfort. Today, I'm like a new person with incredible vision out of the eye he repaired. I am very satisfied and highly recommend Dr. Hymas if you have cataracts and want them repaired. read more

This was our first time coming to Dr. Hymas. Despite 15 minutes before closing, the staff took excellent care of my sister. Dr. Hymas himself had a kind disposition that put my mom and I at ease while he diagnosed my sister. When my sister felt nauseous and started vomitting two nurses came to bring paper towels and water for her. Thank you Shanna and the other lady that made sure my sister was taken care of. Dr Htmas performed cataract surgery on my right eye in December 2014. I found him to be superb in all respects and highly skilled, personable and of the highest calibre. The results were outstanding and I am forever in his debt, but I hope and trust not financially. Dr. Hymas did amazing surgery on both of my eyes to replace the lenses (cataracts) as well as to laser resurface to fix the astigmatisms I always had. I'm 64 and I see better now than I did in my 20s! Dr. Hymas is very thorough and explains everything so there will not be any surprises. I had no pain or any discomfort from either surgery (6 wks apart) and both of my eyes healed perfectly (follow the instructions with the eye drops for the full 4 weeks) and make sure that your insurance doesn't rip you off on the very important ILEVRO NSAID eye drops. Blue Cross / Blue Shield doesn't cover the 3.0ml size and they have a co-payment of $265.00 for the 0.8ml size (which is not enough). The free GoodRx app found a pharmacy (there are many) who sold the 3.0ml size for $275.00 at their usual discount, thanks for nothing Blue Cross / Blue Shield for charging me $1200.00/month plus huge deductibles and then not even covering these important eye drops. read more

The receptionist who booked my appt disappointed me when an insurance issue came up and she wouldn't own up to a mistake she made. I wish she would have just apologized instead of giving me attitude. I almost just canceled the appt but instead I just sucked it up and went. I'm glad I did bcuz as soon as I met the office staff and Dr Hymas I was pleasantly surprised at how nice they all were. Dr. hymns prescribed me a wrong prescription. ordered glasses and they were way too strong. when i went to his office to get a new prescription, he didn't even come talk to me; he just wrote me a prescription for my old prescription (which was 3 years old and "expired"). He charged my insured, I paid the copay but he screwed up my prescription so bad. How do you even screw up the prescription that much. read more

This man is my hero. I worship him. One time, I was like, at school and stuff, and this chick came up to me and said that I owed her a body part. Some lame bet or something. Anyway, she decided to pull out my left eye, and to be honest with you, it was really hard to sit still for that. But a bet is a bet. Just wish I could remember that bet! She then tried to frighten some kids with the eye by pretending she had three eyes. I ran after her, but due to depth perception issues, was not able to catch her. My friend, Tom, hucked a rock at her and knocked her silly. He's a total bud. One time he and I tried to pick up on these older chicks at a party and then their boyfriends came after us swinging. We ran out the back door. It was cool. So anyway, we left the chick for dead, and I drove my car toward Dr. Hymas's office, since he used to board with us. He's cool. Since I kept driving into cars and trashcans (just like in the movies - it was cool), Tom drove us the rest of the way. I listened to tunes that were smokin'! So anyway, Hymas's Eye Shop (that's what we call it now, cause he's cool) was open and his secretary is SMOKIN! She's got a boyfriend, so we just stared at her a lot. Dr. Hymas grabbed the eye, grabbed his board and took off down the hall. Cool. Some chick took me back and Tom said they gassed me and while I was out he said that I told Dr. Hymas that I want to have Ryan Seacrist's baby. Lame. I woke up and my eye was back. He said he made it bionic, but I said what good will that do? He said I would be able to see rocks better when I board. Sweet! If you lose an eyeball, don't go to a quack doctor. First, and importantly, I am NOT rating Dr. Hymas's medical care since I did not meet with him. I was a new patient today, and even though I am in the medical/mental health field, did not try to impress upon the office staff that fact. However, I arrived early, and after waiting over 15 minutes, approached the desk admin person about when I would be seen. She indicated " soon, just waiting for a room." At that point, approximately 11:45, there was almost no one in the waiting room. Other patients had all been seen, perhaps by other professionals. After waiting another 15 minutes, over 30 minutes to be seen, I informed the staff I was leaving and would not reschedule. I worked with the California Medical Board for over five years, and am very familiar with how physicians practice medicine and what constitutes a fair standard of care. How patients are handled at Dr. Hymas's office, at least for me today, is sub-standard care. At the very least, I should have been informed if there was a clinical emergency or he was running late. Dr Devin Hymas performed catarac surgery in both of my eyes within the past 6 months. I chose Dr Hymas to perform my surgery after meeting with him the first visit. He is very professional, courteous and compassionate. My medical insurance covered Dr Hymas but not the surgical center where he performs the surgery. Because I like and trust Dr Hymas so much, I chose to pay out of pocket for the surgery center both times. The surgical center (Lynn Eye Surgery Center) is also very professional and organized. They made both procedures comfortable and simple. I now have better vision than I have had over the past 15 years. Dr Hymas has given me new life and he is worth every penny. I would not go to anyone else. And a word of thanks to Maria in the office for always taking my phone calls and addressing my needs with a smile and pleasant attitude. read more

I had Cataract Surgery on both eyes (a month apart) by Dr. Hymas in the last 2 months! I dislike going to any doctors or even going to a vet with the dog...I especially didn't want anyone cutting on my eyes...however as they were getting worse so I had no choice. Dr. Hymas made it easy...both my wife & I visited 3 or 4 times over a period of months and Dr. Hymas just kept saying ..."Don't rush it...don't do it until you are completely ready"! He is very friendly & easy going and takes the time to explain all. On the day of the first surgery I reported at 9 or 10am...the surgery was going on one after another...when my turn came the nurses were very sweet and kept reassuring me all will be well...I had a very mild anesthetic which I wasn't even aware of ...I went in and came out without feeling a thing...they said the actual surgery took all of 13 minutes. Next day I could see perfectly out of my right eye...I had no discomfort or any kind of after effects.
