The staff here is horrible, especially the girl who answered the phone. I called and ask when my daughter's appointment would be since I forgot the date. She said March 6 2012 and I asked her is this a monday or a tuesday she answered me I don't have a calendar in front of me. I told her well let me look at the calendar and she hangs up! I think most scheduler softwares and doctor's offices have a calendar I don't know why she does not have one. I see a lot of complaints about the staff here and they should do something about it! So people are not happy with Dr. Cooper? That's ridiculous. I had an appointment with him to check my eyes. He was extremely thorough. He is an expert. That is what I can tell you. Upon reading my history with cancer he also checked for ocular metastasis. It's rare but it happens. I called this week to get a note for the DMV because I need one to drive. I thought it was just a year ago that I saw him. It turns out it was 3 years. The office staff made me an appointment for the following day. I ended up not needing glasses. It's complicated but getting the right diagnosis is a huge savings in the long run. Bottom line? I you are angry at Dr Cooper you might really just be angry at ObamaCare & insurance companies that are limiting covering his services. I am not looking for a dance partner. My son recently had surgery on his eye, by Dr. Cooper, to repair an overdeveloped eyelid. From the beginning Dr. Cooper had great bedside manner. He was knowledgable, fair, and always answered all of our questions. He never over promised and made sure that we felt comfortable ever step of the process. Dr. Cooper kept in touch with us during our son's surgery both before and after. He was leaving to go out of town and still answered our phone calls on his private cell phone while out of the office. The receptionists, nurses, and billing staff were friendly and so sweet with our little boy. Ignore bad reviews. Dr. Cooper and the staff are excellent with children and never make you feel like just another patient. They are very accommodating and understanding. I look forward to becoming a patient of Dr. Cooper as well as soon as my daughter is born. Thank you Dr. Cooper and staff for taking such good care of our little man!! read more

If I could give this doctor 0 stars, I would. He is a terrible doctor with an even worse bedside manner. Not only that, he is a mean person. The office staff is just as bad. They have a strict "no food or drink" policy, including babies. When I asked to go to outside to feed my baby, I was told that I would lose my turn in line, even though I had been waiting over an hour past my appointment time. The appointment was for my 4 month old daughter and he yelled at me for bringing my son, her twin. He told me that I had to leave my 4 month old baby in the waiting room. MAKE THAT ZERO STARS! I cannot believe the way this doctor's office treated me. I was a patient for years with Cooper and loyally paid all my bills on time. Then my employer switched me to Kaiser, whom I liked a lot, and then December 2012 they switched me back. So I called Cooper for an appt. (all I really need is an eyedrop prescription refilled) and they said no, I'd need a new appointment. That's OK, it makes sense, so I said how much? They said since I had been away for a few years, the charge would be a minimum of $200 - they HAD to charge me the new patient rate !!! When I asked if they could just do a minimum eye exam, and take into account all the years I was a patient there - they said NO! They are jerks and deserve 0 stars... read more

We took our 3 year old son who had a chalazion to see Dr. Cooper and he quickly responded that he needed surgery. We took him to another specialist and he did not recommend surgery. His chalazion went away on its own. 5 years later, I accidentally took my other son thinking it was not the same doctor but it was. Dr. Cooper said that again the only option was surgery for my other son's chalazion. After remembering he was the same doctor, we canceled the surgery date and requested our $300 deposit we put for the surgery. The office staff stated they didn't think that would be possible. We first needed to speak with the office manager. Luckily they refunded our deposit and we have an apt to see another doctor we trust 2 hours away. Strange how an office can charge patients a large deposit for surgery that has not even occurred. Is that legal ? I would never recommend this office or doctor. Always do your research first and read the reviews. I give this Dr. 0 stars! read more

IGNORE reviews about Dr.Cooper being bad with children.. After reading these misleading reviews I was very nervous and almost cancelled my appointment for my 6 month old... But I kept it anyway, and to my pleasant surprise Dr. Cooper was very friendly, nice and patient with both my young children!!! He tried to soothe the crying 6 month old as he examined his eyes and gave my 3 year old compliments on his hair cut and have him a high 5 and a sticker!!! I had no complaints and didn't experience any bad things about the visit!!! I will recommend him to friends with children and will use him again for any further eye health for any member of our family!!! read more

This man is terrible with kids. He traumatized my two year old and misdiagnosed her as well. The other pediatric ophthalmologist that we took her was shocked by how awful his diagnosis. Do not take your kids to this man. read more

a recent review here jogged my memory. many many years ago we went here with my aspberger's kid. they claimed to have some sort of therapy that would 'fix' his autism. ( ok maybe not fix,, but it was some sort of odd eye treatment) I remember him telling us it was thousands of dollars. now this has to have been 15 plus years ago. they gave us the song and dance. we were thinking about it and then we heard all sorts of horror stories from other parents of autistic kids. they all say the treatment was a joke and a huge waste of time and money. such a liar. read more

I've been a patient of the doctor since my childhood and have no complaints with him or his assistant, whom have been consistently great. The front desk staff is where the problem lies. I called to make an appointment last week and was transferred to the booking agent. She asked me if I had insurance and then proceeded to scream at me over not having the proper card. I kept trying to break in, when she took a breath, to explain to her how my insurance works but she repeatedly cut me off. When I finally got a word in edgewise, she angrily placed me on hold. She returned to the call all sweetness and light because she must have confirmed my claim... Once I arrived at the doctor's office, the receptionist was a drill sergeant type under the guise of a polite person. She was intimidating to other patients when they approached the desk when it wasn't their "turn" to speak. When it was my turn, I handed her the card I was asked to bring and, in a huff, said they didn't take it because they take my insurance PPO card. I replied that I knew that but her staff didn't seem to know it, which stopped everyone behind the counter. I like Dr. Cooper but Lynn Eye Medical group needs to hire a staff that doesn't treat their job like guerrilla warfare. read more

Dr. Cooper is not someone I would trust operating on my child. My son has a neurological impairment that causes strabismus and Dr. Cooper treats him like a lost cause. We moved from the San Diego area and only went there because he's the only guy in town. We have decided to drive all the way back to San Diego to have our first doctor perform the surgery at Children's. I am convinced it is worth the extra hassle to get a positive outcome. On top of substandard care, the staff is really terrible. His assistant is the ONLY exception!!! She is so sweet. She should get out. I once waited over 20 minutes just to check in!!! I was on time when I arrived but the only girl in the front was on the phone and refused to multitask. I heard his assistant come out and snap at her that she had just marked me as a no-show and I was there the whole time. Oh, and the best part? The optical center on site is totally worthless for us. They actually told us they didn't have any glasses small enough for my son. And were unwilling to order any. Unbelievable. read more

I agree...ignore the negative reviews! I showed up 15 mins early for my appointment, so got to observe how patients on the phone and in the office were treated..and no one was anything but helpful, courteous and professional. Nancy and Tara did my preliminary exam, both introduced themselves and were very friendly. Dr. Cooper greeted me, asked about my overall health, any changes from last time, etc. He conducted a thorough eye examination, listened to my concerns about being able to read numbers, and suggested lenses that would not only help with reading but with working all day on the computer. Caroline, helped me find great frames and reviewed all of the different options, explaining what my insurance would cover and what I would have to pay for myself. The whole experience was a big 5-star thumbs up! And for all of the negative comments about the Doctor not working well with children...working with children is one of his specialties. And, while I was in the waiting room, I could hear babies crying and fussing in the quiet room, so young babies and kids are definitely welcome in this office. read more

had an okay experience with this doctor, took by 4 year old for an appointment and it just felt to rushed and my son had issues with his glasses where they just bothered him and didnt want to use them. i followed up with another doctor and prescription was to high for him so had to have readjusted so i feel if you would of taken his time we could of avoided that issue. read more

I am reading these negative reviews of Dr. Cooper and his staff, and I am simply amazed and frankly completely disbelieving of them and find them to be disingenuous. I do not tend to write reviews, but I can't read these reviews and remain quiet. My daughter was 7 years old when I brought her to Dr. Cooper on a recommendation from another professional for a serious eye condition that was improperly diagnosed by another opthomologist. Dr. Cooper properly and professionally and, with much compassion and understanding, correctly diagnosed her condition. Unfortunately her condition is such that it has made her a regular patient, being seen weekly, biweekly and monthly for the past 20 years. Dr. Cooper is one of the most accessible, kindest and most patient and gentle doctor's I've ever come in contact with. My daughter and I have known him to immediatley return our phone calls (even giving us his personal cell number for after hours), immediately and patiently explain her condition to us (me), and come to the office after hours and/or on weekends to examine her when her condition seemed to not get better or worsen. He didn't hestiate to send us to UCLA Jules Eye Institute when he wanted them to evaluate his treatment to know if there was anything else they'd recommend. We've been there on 2 occasions, and both times were told that Dr. Cooper was doing everything that they themselves would recommend. He is always there for her, still is; no matter that her condition is complicated and difficult to manage and balance. I simply do not know where we'd be without him these past years. As well, our experience with his very helfpul office staff has always been positive. You must realize, this is a very busy office and the staff does not always have time to chat and exchange pleasantries. Their phones ring constantly and their patients stream in and out all day. I have found them to be extremely well organized and a systematically run office for the common goal, to service the patients and the doctors. They schedule patients appointments with their doctors, prioritize calls, and determine emergency's from routine calls, all while balancing and servicing several different doctors including their Optometry department. There is not one staff member behind that desk that you will ever find just sitting, chating with another employee about their personal life, or ignoring the phones or a patient at their counters. I would think that a patient would prefer this kind of effieciency over someone who is not paying attention to their work, the patients, or the doctors. I will take my children to the brightest doctor based on their training, knowledge, and medical care over good bedside manner any day. That is what we should concern ourselves with and not whether or not he smiles at them and pats them on their head. Dr.Cooper operated on my eye just over a week ago. I had pain, discomfort, and serious redness from a pterygium due to many years of sun exposure. I feel like I have a new eye thanks to him. He's been available for any and all concerns I've had post-op including many appointments to ensure everything is healing properly. Everyone is RIGHT ON IT ....IT IS THE STAFF!!! However...the policy of not being able to bring a sibling to the exam room is correct too! So...when I showed up I was asked to get someone to watch my baby in the waiting room if I wanted to go back to exam with my 5 year old son OR he could go by himself!!!!!!!!!!!!! The girl at the front, raised her voice at me in front of everyone and said that IT IS DR. COOPER Policy and there was NOTHING she could do about it.....that someone shouldve told me about it when i made the appointment....I had the baby and I WASNT going to let my 5 year old go to the exam room by himself. Doesnt the DR know that a Parent SHOULD / MUST be present during a MEDICAL exam, so I can listen and perhaps discuss the visit? For a routine eye exam "MAY" not be necessary even thought she still a MINOR, but for a MEDICAL EXAM..? C'mon!!! I had been waiting for this appointment for two weeks, but since I wasnt willing to leave my baby with a stranger in the waiting room and didnt want my 5 year old son go to the exam by himself, I had to leave....let me add that they charged me a cancellation fee too!!!! NOTE TO Dr. COOPER.....review your policy and consider exeptions when sibblings are in a carseat or baby carrier. ......PLUS, and most important: RE-TRAIN YOUR STAFF or HIRE NEW ONES....there are workshops you can send them to. If they are so unhappy and miserable working there, its time for them to move on. The medical field may not be for them...they can go work at a DMV or some other place where they dont have to be NICE and/or PLEASANT. read more
