I found the recommendation for this cute cafe on a Pinterest post and it did not disappoint. My brother and I enjoyed a quaint breakfast with BIG flavor on one of our mornings in Sydney. I had a beautiful rendition of avocados, tomatoes, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar that was paired with sourdough bread (can't remember the name of the dish, but I'll post a pic). I ordered poached eggs as a side to create a meal I will probably dream about. It was amazingly satisfying. My brother had the French toast that was recommended in the article I saw and he had no complaints either. We are in town for a few more days and I may find my way back to have another dish before our departure. It was that good.

I almost accidentally ordered a $63 breakfast here. Seriously. It was one of the menu specials. Thankfully the waitress asked me if I was aware of the price before I went on an epic YOLO brunch spending spree. It did sound pretty delicious though, something having to do with fancy baked eggs and truffles imported from Italy. Anyway, after that I decided upon a slightly more affordable breakfast. The miso cured grilled salmon served with smoked eel croquette, egg and salad. Was really lovely, and would definitely pick it again. I guess it's one of the more popular menu items. I also tried a Coke Chino (thanks Ben for the Yelp tip) which is a crazy combination of Expresso, Coke and Chai. I thought it tasted sweet like Coke, and has more of a coffee after taste. I liked trying it, but not sure I would order it again. We sat in the front of the cafe, but they do also have a lovely garden area out the back. It was busy but not packed mid-day on a Sunday. Not sure what wait times are usually like here.

I was intrigued by the pictures I saw on Instagram but I was quite confused when I arrived at the cafe. I envisioned it to be larger and brighter. Instead, it's a very ordinary cafe I walked pass a few times last time I was in Sydney. I didn't find the menu enticing either. I know they look good in pictures but after reading repeatedly what actually goes into the dish, I wasn't so sure. In the end, I ended up with a latte and a ham and cheese croissant - my safest bet. The guy next to me who ordered one of the more "interesting" dished left half of his food unfinished. I guess the H&C croissant wasn't a bad idea afterall. It's a cozy little cafe, good to chillax on a weekend but I wouldn't come here on purpose for the food.

This place is da bomb! The reviews from people was spot on. Totally impressed with the setup and interior of the place when you walk in. There was a healthy line of people waiting to get a seat on a Sunday but hey, that's to be expected where there's great food. We had a fantastic waitress who was super friendly who came around regularly to make sure we were doing ok. Thumbs up for the service on a very busy Sunday. My friend ordered sparkling iced cascara tea which was very refreshing and she asked the barista to come talk to us when we asked a few questions about the tea (this was a first, never had a barista explain about the tea they've made!). I had a very well made soy flat white. The Dr Seuss green eggs and ham was a sight to behold. I've never seen anything look so green in my life and I trust my friend's opinion that it was nice. The ham looked like pork belly but it wasn't. Tasty though! What made the dining experience was the cronuts which Devon is famous for. We had the black sesame and passionfruit one and I must say the black sesame was my favourite. It oozed out from the pastry which was super crackly and just sweet enough without being overpowering.

This cafe offers lots of instagram worthy food that fails to live up to its hype. The quality in ingredients was blatantly lacking, perhaps because the focus is purely on presentation. This is sorely disappointing given the high cost of the dishes. For example, they couldn't even properly execute the simplest dish - scrambled eggs on toast. The eggs were a pale yellow and had a odd taste that was part rancid, part creamy and salty. The coffee was also mediocre. It cost 43 dollars for two dishes and two coffees which would be fine if the food was good, however this felt like highway robbery. With so many breakfast/brunch options in Sydney it's shocking how this place is recommended as one of the top cafes.

Devon have consistently amazing food. If it wasn't for the coffee being consistently mediocre this cafe would have five stars and be one of the best cafés in Sydney if not Australia. The menu here changes with the seasons and will never disappoint. The ambience is cozy and definitely a must try in sydney. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. only once did the hipster barista give me attitude when he made a flat flat white when we asked for a latte. They don't lose points for the hipster with attitude because hipsters with attitude will be degenerates no matter where they are; work, school or at home.

Devon Cafe finally has a bigger place to spread its wings. I was expecting even a higher standard now compared to the Central station branch for some reason. Not knowing this area, the walk from Redfern station was quite pleasant. The main landmark nearby is the Hillsong across from it. Inside, it is very spacious and comfortable, there is an improvement in the service, I suspect because all the tables are in sight compared to the segregated "rooms" of Devon Cafe. SOFT SHELL CRAB ROLL ALA JAPANOIS $18 (Crispy soft shell crab with shichimi pepper, wasabi mayo, tobiko, nori, pickled cucumber, daikon, carrot, shiso) The fried soft shell crab was cooked perfectly with a slight kick of pepper. The wasabi mayo did not have enough of a kick for me, would not have noticed it without reading it the menu. I tried to eat it with my hands but it was not practical as the crab kept falling out. Knife and fork is the way to go. Disappointed with the presentation. Somewhat, one of the more mediocre dishes at Devon. DR SEUSS'S GREEN EGG AND HAM $19 (Thick cut bacon, crispy potato, 63 degree egg, green tomato ketchup, pea puree, soybeans, pea tendrils, jus) Pea and ham is such a classic combination, visually, the colours are vibrant and just pop out. Shame for the presentation again as a little more care with the pea puree would have made it perfect (to be picky). The ham is full of deep smoky ham flavour, I really enjoyed it with the all the other combinations on the plate. The crispy potato is indeed very crispy and brought a crunch to the dish. A dish that I would order again. DANKS-IN-DONUTS $7 These mini donuts are mouth-size and filled to the brim with individual flavouring. A mixture of asian flavours such as matcha green tea or milo and classic raspberry were available. I was not too impressed by them and would not order them again. Nice flavours but I would have preferred made-to-order fried doughnuts with the sauce :) for that price. CRONUTS $6.50 These are officially the most expensive cronuts or cronnies as it is referred to here. Are they worth it? yes, just because they are square! not but really as a late entrant, Devon did not just make a mediocre replica. I feel that they have tasted every cronut in town and taken note of which qualities to include. The texture of these cronnies is similar to Adriano Zumbo's Zonut, the construction is very similar as well with more emphasis on the filling rather than overloading the top which in my opinion makes the pastry too soggy and thus looses its crunchy texture (i.e. some of the Brewnuts). The Milo-chocolate was very good filled with a light ganache of chocolate and milo. The one to remember is the pork floss and mayo cronut which is based on the popular pork floss bun found in Asian bakeries. Is it sweet or savoury? 70% savoury - 30% sweet, 100% yummy. It is definitely an experience. I do not quite know what is the filling, but it's yummy. Conclusion The soft shell crab roll was below the standard that we are use to at Devon. This was still is very good breakfast however to be ultra-picky there were some areas of improvement like cleanliness of tables and inconsistent presentation. The Pork Floss and Mayo Cronut is enough of a reason to come here. @thesydneynoob

Alright, so Surry Hills already has its fair share of fantastic quality cuisine, so it's a bit unfair that another really great cafe is opening there. But the lower end of Devonshire Street hasn't always had great cafes, so in this sense Devon is a very welcome addition. At Devon they obviously pay a LOT of attention to quality produce. We're talking proper chefs here, not your usual sandwich makers. Their chefs used to work at Guillaume (Sydney and Melbourne). Their offerings are flavoursome, rich, and a delightful mix of "modern Australian", Italian, Spanish, French, south-east Asian, etc. They have things like wagyu pastas, crab meat pastas, sandwiches work pork belly, duck confit, baked eggs, cured salmon, banana+nutella muffins, black rice pudding, coconut jam. They use bread from Victoire (which I still think is the best bakery in Sydney), and coffee from Five Senses / Coffee Alchemy. There's a small edible garden out in the back. The interior fit-out has a fresh, effortless feel to it. Designed by Matt Woods (he did the fit-out at Bloodwood), the design is simple, utilitarian, and clean, with sanded wooden benches and stools and tabletops, looking out onto Devonshire street. Only downside, it's a little pricy. Gotta say it. You pay for the quality. Don't come here if you've only got a tenner in your pocket, it won't go too far. OJ is $7. Lunchtime meals between $11 and $25.

It was a coincident that I would go Devon on Danks or Devon by night . But I was so happy with the service and food they offered. I have also had some amazing sake that wasn't on the menu and so smooth and went so well with the dishes . Overall I will come back here again more suitable to romantic date nights and priced reasonably .

Cute brunch place close to the station! I came here with a friend early in the morning and there was no queue! We got the eggs blini and the cookies n cream. Both were so lovely and had amazing flavors. The presentation for the dishes were beautiful as well. The eggs blini is essentially smoked salmon with poached eggs and some veggies on a pancake. The veggies were a first for me since it felt like a cross between broccoli and asparagus. It was also interesting since I would have never thought of combining pancakes and eggs benedict. The dish was so delicious but too rich for one person. It would have been really nice if my friend and I had shared. The cookies n cream was gorgeous and not too sweet. It was like a cookie creme sandwich, which was quite enjoyable since the flavors merry so well with each other. Super lovely with a coffee on the side to balance the sweetness. I had a really great experience here and would come again. The cafe itself was small and the interior design was charming. The service was spectacular as well. I loved it!

The truffle thing was absolutely a rip-off of $30. I trusted recommendations from your staff and it turned to be "Ultimately" salty and pricy! I felt extremely thirsty and uncomfortable in the whole afternoon. I just felt I had been fooled. I am wondering if their business owner really tasted their so called "special" before rolling out. So irresponsible for your customers! And, they have holiday surcharge. Speechless!

While vacationing in Sydney, I was recommended by family to check out this brunch spot. I didn't realize it was kind of out of the way from the city center but it's alright, cause it was worth trying. The brunch here was delicious and same goes with their drink menu (teas, affogato). This is a pretty popular spot. The entire place was packed and a line had formed outside as well. Service was great too! I would definitely come back.
