This is the nearest Indonesian restaurant from Copenhagen, which is 4.5 hours (train trip) away. I…read moream pretty devastated at the fact, but it motivates me to visit Hamburg more often.
There was a time when Cita Rasa restaurant was the star, but now Jawa quickly takes over. Of course Indonesian food can never be as authentic as your mom makes it, or the way warung across the street makes it, but for me - it's the best you could get so far and I'm not going to complain.
We ordered Martabak and Batagor for starters and Lele Goreng (or Pecel Lele) and Tahu Tek for main course. Or whichever you wish to call it. Martabak is some sort of omelette while Batagor is abbreviation for Bakso Tahu Goreng (Fried Tofu meatball in peanut sauce). Both were delicious. Lele Goreng (Fried catfish served with vegetables on a plate of sambal) was ok. I guess the catfish was rather small and the sambal terasi wasn't as good as the same dish in Indonesia, but hey - I am from Surabaya - or more precise - Sidoarjo, which is the capital of terasi / belacan / shrimp paste and petis - so I was raised in top quality products.
Tahu Tek was served with those colourful kerupuk (crisps), almost as authentic as it could be although the petis could be improved (didn't taste much like shrimp as it should), but overall it was very nice.
There were three of us and we spent around 34 EUR total so it was relatively cheap. The only downside was the waiting time. One of us was starving and he almost died waiting for the food :)
