The Restaurant is totally not recommended. we arrived there at 17:30. As soon as we arrived the waitress told us that we have to order very quickly because they are about to close. They actually open until 19:00 and the last order is at 18:00 which we still had time. When our food came, they started refilling the sauce on every table and it was so noisy. That bothered because we were still eating. The waitress was so rude and service was unpolite. read more
This is the nearest Indonesian restaurant from Copenhagen, which is 4.5 hours (train trip) away. I am pretty devastated at the fact, but it motivates me to visit Hamburg more often. There was a time when Cita Rasa restaurant was the star, but now Jawa quickly takes over. Of course Indonesian food can never be as authentic as your mom makes it, or the way warung across the street makes it, but for me - it's the best you could get so far and I'm not going to complain. We ordered Martabak and Batagor for starters and Lele Goreng (or Pecel Lele) and Tahu Tek for main course. Or whichever you wish to call it. Martabak is some sort of omelette while Batagor is abbreviation for Bakso Tahu Goreng (Fried Tofu meatball in peanut sauce). Both were delicious. Lele Goreng (Fried catfish served with vegetables on a plate of sambal) was ok. I guess the catfish was rather small and the sambal terasi wasn't as good as the same dish in Indonesia, but hey - I am from Surabaya - or more precise - Sidoarjo, which is the capital of terasi / belacan / shrimp paste and petis - so I was raised in top quality products. Tahu Tek was served with those colourful kerupuk (crisps), almost as authentic as it could be although the petis could be improved (didn't taste much like shrimp as it should), but overall it was very nice. There were three of us and we spent around 34 EUR total so it was relatively cheap. The only downside was the waiting time. One of us was starving and he almost died waiting for the food :) read more

Thaaaank you lord for this place. Now ,I haven't given away five stars in a while but this place blew my mind. 100% authentic Indonesian food. We had: - fried rice with lamb - lamb sate -- I would bath in it, if I could! - grilled fish -- crazy delicious - gado2 - es cendol (desert/ drink) --- perfect - fried rice with Shrimps - Fried nudles - tofu (tahu isi) - and xiaomei in a large version. Forgot the name. - teh botol (ice tea) I took my colleagues and don't regret it, not even a bit! If they had chairs and tables outside, the place would be packed 24/7!!! I enjoyed every single gram of fat jumping onto my hips. Totally worth it! GO THERE!!! Selamat Makan! read more
The food here is awesome! And the meal portions, especially for the Mittagstisch (lunch time), are massive -- it's enough food for lunch and dinner. Honestly, however, it's not really super traditional or authentic Indonesian cuisine as some would hope to believe, or as they suggest. Dishes here are tailored to the European-Western palate. The food served here may be Southeast-Asian inspired, but those who have actually spent some time in Indonesia will know the difference (even with the Tehbotol). Still, it's excellent-tasting Asian food, and definitely some of the best you will find in Hamburg. I've tried a number of dishes from here and everything was very satisfying. For my taste, I really don't know how you could go wrong with anything from here. read more

Excellent. Better than I have eaten in the Netherlands and New York. It is on a street of office parks and no tourists. Everyone eating there is Indonesian and diverse German. They made a special trip to eat there. Menu is in German only! Rindle means beef. So we winged it and ordered the only classic dishes we knew of: nasi goreng and sate. Wow!!!!! Memorable strong clean flavors!!! Worth every step of the out of the way trip. read more

The food was delicious and authentic. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The price is fair, because the foods come in big portions. One thing that didn't make me happy was the service. As an Indonesian myself ( I've been living in Germany for the last 9years), i am pretty much disappointed by the staff, they're not friendly at all. They didn't even smile. It's ironic, because Indonesian people are known for their hospitality and friendliness. Such a let down. read more

Last October My husband and I went to visit Hamburg to see my long time friend, she told me about this amazing indonesian restaurant. My husband and I were really happy , the food is soo good, and the prices are so affordable . We had ikan bakar, indonesian wonton soup, mix beef balls soup, es campur, es cendol. I kid you not, the service is good, atmosphere is good and the food is just amazing! read more

Can't thank the universe enough for this place!! When a friend of mine recommended this restaurant, I was somewhat skeptical as every Asian dish I have tried in Germany would never get any closer to its actual taste. But, after giving it a try, I would say that this is the very first place I would love to go to whenever I feel homesick! The richness of the Indonesian spices and flavors in every dish will just bring me back the memory of my home country. Now, I don't have to fly thousands of miles away to get the taste of the indonesian comfort food! read more

Indonesian foods are so underrated compared to other Asian foods (Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc) which are surprising with so many delicious foods are worth to try. I brought my friend here and she was so pleased. It was the first time she ate Indonesian cuisine and now she loves it, thanks to Jawa Restaurant for bringing an authentic Indonesian cuisine with a great taste:) My recommendation: Chicken satay, Grilled fish, Gado-gado, and Fried rice. For the drink: Cendol. read more

Just wow! Love to try out foods from all my friendly neighbourhood country cuisines. Can't say it's authentic because I haven't ever been to Indonesia but judging from the crowd and the taste and the cooks and the highly motivated restauranteur, I'm very impressed. Just depressed, it's not on the west end of HH. Oh well, nothing like going through all the jam-packed Tiny streets of HH for my Indonesian fix. read more

Ich liebe indonesisches Essen und für mich gibt es hier das beste in Hamburg! Seit dem ich im Urlaub auf Bali war bin ich ein großer Fan geworden. Ich finde der LAden sieht außerdem sehr authentisch! read more
