Two of us came to Plains to be with family as winter was approaching, kind of a nerve-wracking time to travel for one who is not used to more serious winter weather. We booked directly, at the last minute, over the phone, and couldn't yet specify the number of nights we would need our two-bed room. The owners were completely flexible about that and we kept them apprised of our plans as soon as we knew them. This is a "self-serve" motel in that no one is on-site. You are given instructions on how to access your room, including the door code, before your arrival, via email. The same door code gives you access to an "amenities room" where you may pick up extras such as blankets, toilet paper, etc. The building is one-story, cute and a little dated. The room was furnished with two queen sized beds, a glider rocker, 2 nightstands, a microwave, a small coffee maker, and a large flatscreen tv with Dish satellite. There is an easily adjustable wall heater that makes it nice and warm quickly. Our bathroom had a tub-shower. The beds were very comfortable. The room was clean. Across the street is a cafe that serves lunch and dinner, and currently serves breakfast just 1-2 mornings a week. They give a discount to motel customers. About 3 blocks away is an espresso drive-through. So the location is convenient to important morning needs! :-) Whenever we had a need, we could text or call the owners and always got an immediate response no matter the hour. After four nights, we planned to leave but there was a winter storm warning so we weren't sure if we would be able to make it out. They were willing to hold our room for us until we knew we could make it out and just let them know by texting. We really appreciated their willingness to be so accommodating and flexible. Stayed 2 nights and it was a very nice, comfy motel! The room was clean the beds were comfortable. The only down side was that the bathroom door would not shut. Other than that it was pretty easy instructions to get in the room since there's no staff available. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Clean, newly redone, helpful staff, the only downside we saw is that the owners are not on site but the local staff makes up for it as best as they can. Loved the staff and the hard work they put in to make things clean and ready for our visi. We stayed four nights while we looked at surrounding properties and had a mini vacation. Horrible service set in the parking lot for over an hour. Waiting for somebody to answer the phone that never did. This used to be such a nice place. This is my second business trip to Plains MT in as many years. This is also the second time that I have stayed at the Dew Duck Inn. The rooms are awesome, well appointed, warm and comfortable. The rooms are equipped with "Dish" satellite TV...really nice when it works. First no clicker to even turn it on, then later it develops some error in a switch someplace. Okayyy, not that big of an issue tonight...let's just have it working tomorrow, eh? This hotel has steam heating...digital controls, and unlike all other steam registers in the world, this one works flawlessly and makes no noises. I appreciate that...!!! There are only 8 hotel rooms here...drive up to your door. Not much to see from the street and certainly nothing unique to catch your attention or to draw you in...except, this is the only hotel around town. But, all said and done, this hotel shows pride, maintenance and investment. A real nice hotel, warm and inviting...very comfortable. Glad I'm here...!!! read more

The gentleman we talked to was very nice and accommodating and told me it was okay for them to all join me. On the way to glacier in the early evening we hit a deer on the 28. The tow truck brought us to this inn. Thankfully that had a room available. Very kind people who work here and offered to help me the next morning find a way out of plains. read more

If I could rate negative stars I would! Stayed here with my grandparents who have stayed in this motel on many occasions. I woke up to bugs crawling on me in the middle of the night. We talked to the owner who was pretty rude about the situation. Not once did he apologize about the situation his words were " this is montana and there are bugs and you have to deal with it when you stay at this motel" so I guess to stay here you have to accept you will have bugs crawling on you! Just can't believe how the owner talked to us! Never would we stay here again! 3 grown adults had to sleep in one queen bed! I have never stayed in a hotel that said it was normal to have bugs in the bed! You should never have to pay to stay somewhere and that be ok! Not once did he apologize for the situation I just can't believe the attitude of the owner. When I showed him the pictures Of the bed he said " okay and" so not only would I never stay here because of the bugs but the owners need to learn some customer service and how to run a business! So I guess if your okay with bugs crawling on you you will have a fabulous time!! read more

This place was adorable . The staff is very nice and truly cares. The price is great and the place is nice and clean. Their heater work beyond amazing and we actually turned it down lol it was a super quiet heater too. Yes you can Hear the trains and the cars but really it's a lot better in my opinion than hearing the people above you and next to you in a regular hotel. The popcorn they put in the room made my son super happy and that was a big thumbs up for me too. The bed was comfortable but my big thing it was clean . I would recommend this place to my friends and family and anyone passing through or nearby. read more

I was really looking forward to staying here based on the other review that this place was so very "cute". My room was just old, not cute or quaint. The room was clean but it does not appear that any renovations have happened in over a decade. The rug was frayed in places, the bathroom was very small, the toilet even smaller with a seat that liked to move more than it should and chipped tile on the vanity. It was a hot summer but the window air conditioner was anemic and did not cool the room until 3am. The innkeeper was no where to be seen and was not answering there phone. The motel has adopted the remote operation approach where you are texted your room number, entry passcode and wi-fi password the day you are scheduled to check-in. To check-out you just close the door in the morning. Without an onsite innkeeper you have loud guests from the other rooms late into the night with no one to call. The nice reviews for this motel appear to be more than a couple years old, I wonder if management has changed or the management approach has changed because I would not stay here again. read more

My fiance and I decided to stop by the Dew Duck Inn while we were on a road trip to see Glacier National Park in Montana. We were greeted by their two cute little dogs in the lobby. We were given room #4 for the night, the decor was absolutely darling. Everything was spotlessly clean, there was free wi-fi, a nice big flat screen tv, a fridge, microwave---even microwave popcorn!! We were very impressed with the room and the hospitality we received at the Dew Duck Inn. In the morning the husband and wife couple who own the Dew Duck Inn recommended we go to the Butcher's Nook for breakfast and the husband actually drew us a little map with a recommendation for a good day hike on it. We would absolutely refer our friends and family to the Dew Duck Inn and we hope to return in the future if we ever find ourselves near Plains, Montana again. Thank you!! read more

An absolute gem. On a three-week road trip that covered 11 states and 3 provinces, this room was the highlight of our lodging. Knowledgeable, friendly owner. Delightful room ("family room": queen bed + bunk beds, one double/one twin). Comfy styling, lovely grounds. We were on motorcycles and nice to park right outside (paved lot). Fantastic dinner right across the street. Plains MT may not be the height of activity but if your travels bring you to the area I strongly recommend it. read more

I've stayed in a lot of four- and five-star hotels in the U.S. and in Europe, so I can't really give it four or five stars. However, my room at Dew Duck Inn is THE CUTEST hotel/motel room I have EVER stayed in! I haven't met the new owners, who I was told are not from Montana, but Lisa at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. I have no complaints; Plains is, after all, a very small town. I've stayed in the motel across the street/highway before, and compared to that place, Dew Duck is a five-star wonder. I would suggest new carpeting, though. The room was clean, except the carpet wasn't vacuumed, and it's so bad there's actually almost no reason to vacuum it. lol Wait; I DO have ONE complaint, and that is that you can't register online. You have to CALL, and for deaf/HOH people, that's a REAL problem. Aside from that, I would stay here again and again despite the bugs Brianna complained about. LOL!! read more
