Lorena checked us in, she told us about the free wifi, comp buffet dinner and breakfast. First thing we noticed as soon as we stepped off the elevator is the odor in the hallway: not sure if it's the musty carpet scent or if it's the assigned floor for dogs... The room is good for 2 people, the air condition wasn't working but window can be opened (you'll hear the tram coming and going). We asked for electric fan - sadly they don't have any (?!) Breakfast spread has the usual breads and cheeses and juice etc From the hotel to city center via tram takes 35mins.

Yes, free from the airport to Novotel Zurich Airport Messe, but they charge a hefty 70-franks for two people to go from Novotel to the airport in the morning. REALLY, an eight-minute ride! We ended up calling an Uber at about a third of that cost. My room, Room 637, was dirty, there was debris on the floor of the bathroom and on the night stand and under the phone, the refrigerator was not working, and the two "complementary" bottles of water were opened and half-empty. The air conditioning was barely present, and turning the fan off to high made no difference in the air movement in the room. Room 637 is especially noisy, beyond the normal aircraft and street noise, but I could hear people talking through the walls, and above us it sounded like people were dropping shot-puts throughout the night. I could hear the ball hit the floor, and then roll. Housekeeping began banging on our group's doors before 8:00am -- advertised check out time is 11:00am. The Novotel Zurich Airport Messe is tired, and run down. I found the carpets dirty, with marks and scuffs on the walls, in the hallways, elevators and inside the rooms. The room had clearly not been cleaned to even the most minimal of standards. We were left with less than a quarter roll of toilet paper, and were forced to go hunting more. Novotel Zurich Airport Messe, One Star, l wish it could be Zero Stars. Hard to believe I am in Switzerland.

I have been staying at this particular Novotel annually for over 20 years. And I have always been…read morehappy with it. I stayed here on 2 separate nights this summer. Both times were below acceptable. I would have canceled the second stay but had prepaid this one. The room I just checked out of had a grungy feel to it. The bathroom had a strong urine smell to it. I went to the local grocery store and bought wipes to go over the fixtures and floor - and there was no residue - so it must have permeated the floor tiles - Yuck! In retrospect I should have changed rooms. Also - there was only a small bar of soap in bathroom - no shampoo or shower gel like there was the week before. Not a huge issue but this is a 4 star hotel. And my pillow case had a small blood stain on it. When I stayed a few weeks ago the carpet was very dirty and had a fairly large dried blood stain on it. The hall carpets are very dirty. This hotel definitely needs an update and to be cleaned in the meantime.

Convenient location to Airport - I found this hotel on another travel site. After a long day of…read moredriving from Munich to get back to Zurich, this hotel was perfect. It was a 10 minute tram ride from the airport train station. There was a shuttle that we could take back to the airport the following day. When we arrived, it was already 9:00pm and no restaurants were still open. Fortunately, the hotel room service was available until 11:00pm. While expensive, we were glad they were still serving food. It is more of a business hotel than a family friendly hotel, but a great option when you have an early morning flight.
