Salt Creek Falls is Oregon's 2nd tallest waterfall, a 286 foot plunge from top to bottom. Visiting…read morehere is easy. It's located right off Highway 58 and 65 miles southeast of Eugene, OR. It's a $5 day use fee. I visited on Labor Day Monday and it wasn't so busy. Once you park, Salt Creek Falls is off to the right hand side but...Diamond Creek Falls (another very worthwhile waterfall to visit) is located towards the left hand side. So...I'd suggest visiting both. You get rewarded with 2 waterfalls for the price of 1 admission. The pathway to Salt Creek Falls Viewpoint is half a mile at most, but along the way there'll be a quick preview of the falls beside the staircase leading towards the trailhead. You can't miss it and you'll hear the falls loudly crashing down below. The hike to the viewing deck is casual. You walk through the forest. It's pretty quiet. Once you arrive at the lookout viewpoint, Salt Creek Falls is impressive. You get undisturbed looks at the waterfall. If your curiosity interests you, you can walk around past the platform for closer glances. I did venture out a little just to avoid the guardrail being in my pictures. But I would say...it's a very steep decline and footing wasn't so secure. Be cautious with your steps. You'll understand this while there. Btw...there were no signs indicating you couldn't venture past the viewing deck. It's up to you to decide how much further you'd like to explore. I noticed some people joined me on the cliffside, while others stayed on the viewing deck. In all, it doesn't take long to see Salt Creek Falls. It's definitely a refreshing breathe of air to be at another marvelous Oregon waterfall, and that's where making the next part of your visit better when you return back to the parking lot and continue onto the 3 mile roundtrip trail to Diamond Creek Falls. I won't say too much about Diamond Creek Falls. I can save it for another review, but I will say it's a complete 180 degree different type of waterfall and setting. You get more into the heart of nature. And you can stand at the base of Diamond Creek Falls looking right up at it cascading in front of your eyes in comparison to witnessing Salt Creek Falls from a vista point platform. They're both unique natural wonders in their own ways. If you're in the central part of Oregon, I'd make plans to come to Salt Creek Falls. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by two magical looking waterfalls that barely get recognition. I didn't know they existed prior to 2024, and I thought I had been to them all, lol. Goes to show...there always more to see, always more to discover. Getting out among the great outdoors is a beautiful thing.

Shortly after we arrived, they yelled at our 1.5 and 4.5-year-old kids for touching the sprinkler system. Instead of a polite heads-up, it was immediate hostility. Later, they got snarky with us for being about 10 minutes past checkout--even though no one was waiting for our site, and we were clearly in the process of leaving. It wasn't just a reminder; it was rude and unnecessary. We had to directly ask them not to speak to us so nastily. Between the two families, all of us felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. There are just too many beautiful and friendly places to stay in this region to deal with that kind of treatment. The only reason I'd recommend this place is if you absolutely need a hot shower and can't find one elsewhere. Otherwise, steer clear.

Might I say Odell Lake Resort is one of the best destinations I've traveled to! From the moment of…read moreaccidentally stumbling upon the east side of the resort, I knew it was a place I needed to stay. My friend and I were warmly welcomed by owner, Bruce with detailed instructions to our camping spot and delightful conversation. Not only was the guest experience wonderful, but the comfortability and amenities of the resort really sealed the experience. Our personal favorite was the Lakeside sauna, sitting at a perfect 160° with the most breathtaking view of the lake and mountains. Additionally, the resort had the most adorable renovated camp trailer that was turned into perfectly cleaned bathrooms for a comfortable wind down before settling into our camping site. While we LOVED our camp spot, we will definitely be choosing one of their quaint cabins that overlooks the lake next time or even possibly one of their lodge rooms. The resort has plenty of accessible trails nearby for a breezy morning hike, and if you need further instructions, Bruce or any of the coworkers there are happy to help! I cannot wait to stay again.

The lake was glassy and calm until about 11 a.m., and we had a wonderful time swimming and fishing. Later, when the wind picked up and we struggled to dock the pontoon boat, Bruce saw us and immediately came over to help. He was calm and reassuring and helped us dock without any trouble. Friday evening there was live music outside while guests ate, drank and called out song requests, and kite surfers flew across the lake in the background. The homemade chicken corn chowder was especially good. It had the perfect amount of spice, and I honestly could have eaten three bowls. One of the servers suggested that we check out the quiet day-use area behind the resort. It has picnic tables, a picturesque creek, and a nearby hiking trail. We spent time stargazing, sitting by the dock, and playing cards inside at night. At times, it felt like we had the whole lodge to ourselves. The owners, Bruce and Candace Silvey, have created a genuinely welcoming place where it is easy to relax. We had an unforgettable trip and look forward to returning.

Beware of mosquitoes!!!…read more The campsites are huge and surrounded by tall trees. We had 4 tents but still had plenty of space for the kids to run around. We camped in July and it was still cold. The place was full of mosquitoes. It was very uncomfortable. They did not care if we were covered with off spray. They feasted on us as if we were wagyu meat. Crater lake was stunning but we're probably not going back due to the mosquitoes.

Trail starts off flat and becomes a steady incline towards the peak. Overall, it would be considered an easy hike. Unfortunately, the peak gets uncomfortably crowded with hikers. Limited parking spots with additional parking on the side of the West Rim Drive. A decent amount of people stop by at this Watchman Overlook because of the stunning views of Crater Lake. No restrooms at this location. The views at Watchman Peak are slightly different from the views at Garfield Peak. The small island is much closer to you on the Watchman Peak side. What a beautiful national park!…read more Came here on a day where the weather changed between partly cloudy/sunny and snowy/rainy. The snowy surroundings created a nice contrast against the very deep blue color of the lake. In the early morning, it was very peaceful. There were not many people around, likely because of weather. The Steel Visitor Center's film was excellent to get a sense of the geology and history of the park. The lodge also offered an excellent meal with a partial view of the lake. Because of the snow, we were not able to go on the Rim Drive or hike the trails. I would imagine all the views would have been beautiful. The Cleetwood Cove trail down to the lake is closed for 3 summers, through 2028. If weather is of any question, the NPS website has up-to-date information about the weather, including webcams of several spots in the park.

We stayed in cabin number 20 right behind the main building, maybe 60 feet from the union Creek, which was wonderful atmosphere. The entire property was lovely, very peaceful, and we wish we were staying longer. Wonderful small trails directly from the resort along union Creek and several along the Rogue river including the Rogue gorge, which is very close to the resort. Can't wait for my next visit here!

We stayed here to get away from the crowds near Crater Lake. Check in was simple at the Union Creek Lodge. The store and gift shop is well stocked with snacks, drinks, toiletries, trinkets, and such. Our cabin #12 was huge- way more space than the two of us needed, but I think it was a better option than a room at the Lodge or a one room cabin. Now, there was NO cell/wifi service in or around the campground unless you were at the Lodge. This didn't bother us, but make sure to have what you need downloaded or printed out ahead of time. The bugs were everywhere- ants, spiders, gnats, mosquitos. It was late July so that was to be expected. I don't mind them outside, it is when they are IN the cabin that I get a bit weirded out. I didn't feel comfortable opening the windows because there are no screens so that is just a welcome sign inviting more bugs. During the evenings we strolled around the campground, ate some pie from Beckies, and sat near the creek. Overall, we had a quiet and enjoyable time at the campground.
