When at the yard, I told the owner what I was looking for and he drove me to four samples and I loved three of them so it was apparent that he had listened carefully to what I wanted. I also liked picking the edge and corners. (Who knew there were so many choices.) The measurements were taken with a template, not a laser. On the the day of the templates, the crew pointed out a problem which neither the designer nor the construction manager for kitchen renovation had noticed and/or mentioned. We were able to anticipate the solution thanks to Custom Kitchen. And we were sent several pictures that showed how they proposed to lay out the templates on the granite. I suggested that the largest piece be flipped 180 degrees to pick up a "swoop" in the natural flow of the granite. I was sent another set of pictures which matched my very unscientific description, perfectly. The island needed 3 pieces of granite to accommodate the new range. the two pieces on the side are nicely matched and the third piece across the back of the range fits in very well. While the whole of the kitchen renovation turned into an extended nightmare, choosing and installing the granite was easy-peasy.

First off Dornbracht is an amazing company. Our 1990 era Dornbracht hand shower suffered a drop…read moreand the flow screen broke. Friends doubted that you will be able to find the replacement part. I contacted company via the web and that pointed me to a part that looked slightly different and claimed it fix. I purchased the product, it fit but not very well. I needed to plumber tape it so it didnt leak. I was going to be going to live with it as it might be the "best" I could get. It was that or replace the entire hand shower. I decided to keep it but send out a email and not expecting much. This is where Cole at Dornbracht America picked up the effort. He too thought the new part would fit and looked at the pictures of the old and new. He took the extra effort to reach out to Dornmbracht factory and trackdown that my hand shower had changed slightly and tracked down the "older" and had it shipped to me no charge. There was no hassle, like return original part to seller, reorder new part, pay for shipping or filling our forms as the part was purchased thru distributors and not directly from Dornbracht. Thanks Cole for the super effort and service and thanks Dornbracht for being a premiere company. Quality cost and I'm glad I used Dornbracht

He has been helping us over a 2 year period and provided excellent advice and been patient and professional. I am very grateful for your consistent support and detailed guidance throughout the process. I was asked to pick out tile, fixtures, and cabinets from a list of vendors. I had initially…read moreselected grey cabinets, but called the vendor back to change my preference to white. I used white cabinet samples to compare to the countertops during selection. The work was done quickly at first. Demo took a couple days with the owner and one worker. When it came time to install the cabinets, they had ordered the grey color cabinets. When I called the vendor to confirm my color choice, she informed me that ARJ had never placed an order with them. The cabinets (and presumably the tile as well) must have been ordered from some alternate vendor. ARJ fought with me to insist that the grey cabinets were fine and looked good. I had to insist that they install the cabinets that I selected. Because the shower pan installation didn't account for the lip of the shower bench, the bench installation was done by cutting a notch out of my doorframe to accommodate. When I insisted this be corrected, the bench was cut down smaller and the notch was filled with silicone caulk (which shrunk upon drying). The mosaic tile used for the shower pan floor and on the walls was uneven and poorly cut and installed. ARJ blamed this on defective tiles from the manufacturer and insisted that this could not be avoided. No spacers were used on the mosaic tile resulting in uneven and jagged lines. Tiles were chipped and cracked during installation. There was a film left from the grout which has stained the tile floors. The wall tile and shower tile are still covered with a film. The light fixtures that were installed were not even centered above the sinks, and when I asked to have this corrected, ARJ suggested just moving the mirror over (even though this would also be off-center with the sink). I asked ARJ for an itemized invoice for the cost of materials numerous times and they never provided one. I was charged over $5,000 for materials (tile, cabinets, and countertops - fixtures were purchased personally). When confronted with the issues, ARJ argued that the work was fine and that the damage to the tiles was hardly noticeable, especially if you stood back from the walls. I insisted on receiving an itemized invoice because I feel certain I was overcharged for the materials (including the tile that was damaged).

From reading reviews, I believe ARJ Remodeling likely does great work. However, I'll never get a…read morechance to experience their work because of the way they handled canceling their appointment with me to give an estimate on an entire basement renovation. On Friday at 6:30 PM, I was able to line up an appointment for their estimator to arrive at our home the next day (Saturday) at 4 PM. I rearranged my day on Saturday to make sure I would be there when the estimator arrived. At 3:21, the estimator called my cell phone and left a message. He called again at 3:25. At 3:30, I received a text asking if I was home and then another text that said my appointment was canceled due to no response. During these 10-15 minutes, I was on a treadmill running, so I did not have my phone handy. Honestly, I could have been doing a lot of things and not had my cell phone handy... reading a book, working in the yard, playing games with my kids, etc. If I had been told by ARJ Remodeling that I would receive a phone call or text 30-45 minutes prior to the appointment and that if I did not respond, the appointment would be canceled, I would have made sure I had my cell phone handy. However, I was never told this important fact. So, when I got off the treadmill at 3:35 to make the 5-minute ride home to be home 15-20 minutes before the appointment, I picked up my phone and saw the text that my appointment had been canceled. I texted back expressing my disappointment and received a text that stated: "That's not good you did not answer even text at 3:30." Read that text again... notice it is my fault the appointment had been canceled. I was irritated, so I called and said: "Wow, that's a great way to lose business." I admit this was not the best way to start the conversation. At the same time, the young man who answered the phone immediately put the blame on me (as he did with the text). He explained, in a verbose manner, that it was my fault that I did not answer my phone and that his estimator didn't want to drive 30 minutes to an appointment if I wasn't going to be there. I mentioned we had just made the appointment a day earlier, that I keep my appointments, that I was never told I needed to answer a phone call before the appointment to confirm I was there, and that if I had been told this fact that I would have made sure I had my phone handy. The young man barely took a breath before he started explaining again that the problem was that I didn't answer my phone. This is when I decided to hang up. Never once did the person answering the phone say, "We are sorry we canceled your appointment" and there was no apology for any misunderstanding, even though I stated that I had rearranged my entire day to be available for this appointment. Here's the kicker... I'm getting 2-3 estimates, which is what most people likely do for a big project like this one, and ARJ was the company I was leaning towards hiring because their online reviews are strong. Obviously, after the way I was treated as a potential customer, I won't be doing business with them. With that said, my disappointment is not just with the way I was treated as a potential customer. I'm also disappointed that ARJ is out of the running for this project because, as stated in my first paragraph, it sounds like they do good work. One final word. Please feel free to check out my other reviews. At the time of this review, I have left 14 other reviews -- 12 5-star reviews and two 1-star reviews (one which was updated to a 4-star reivew). I don't like leaving negative reviews and rarely do, so for me to leave one means something.
