Here are more details: Peter is responsive by text, and also spoke with me directly beforehand, so I could run all our plumbing issues by him before scheduling. He was easy to schedule with, and let me know that he would most likely be able to quote AND actually complete the work, during the same visit. (Yay!) His prices were very fair (less than prior quotes we received from a big company), and unlike the larger company, he didn't try to oversell at all; he clearly explained which tasks were essential, which were good-to-do-but-not-essential, and which we could take care of ourselves, if we desired. For example, while the larger company (yes, one of those with an answering service and hundreds of online reviews) suggested replacing all our toilets, Peter confirmed what we had expected: that they had no major issues, they just needed parts replaced. During his visit, Peter helped us replace the main water valve/filter to improve the water flow and PSI for the entire house; he fixed leaky and loose outside water fixtures; hooked up the water for our fridge; and replaced a totally broken gasket on the base of one toilet. As we suspected, the prior owner had attempted a half-assed fix and covered up the leakage through the ceiling below just to make it look good for the sale. Peter sawed off the broken gasket and did a solid replacement so no further damage will occur, and he even let our kid watch and learn from the whole process. He assessed our water heater, and gave us great longer-term suggestions to manage all the plumbing aspects of our home to maximize efficiency and lifespan and avoid common issues. We learned a lot, and feel confident now that our newly-purchased property is in good shape, plumbing wise...and we know exactly what we need to service or replace when it comes time to sell. Peter is hands down, THE BEST plumber you will find in the area. I called him to discuss fixing two leaking bathtub faucets in two separate bathrooms and he was able to come out the next morning to take care of my issue for a very reasonable price. I also mentioned to him that I had a water knock in the pipes and he told me that the regulator on my water line into the house was not the right size. He came back the next day and took care of that! Peter is courteous, prompt and efficient in his work and never once did he try to sell me on spending any more money than I needed to. In fact, I have two water heaters in my house that are roughly 14 years old (a couple years past their life expectancy). Called Smart Plumbing and had suggestions and quotes within an hour and a new gas 50 gallon tank at a great price installed later that day with a one year agreement for Peter to return for any issues and a 6 year manufacturer warranty on top of that. He took out the old tank and disposed of it and installed the new one for us and then reviewed everything he did. Peter thank you so much for your help, advice and hard work. I requested the work via the Yelp app at about 3am, which is when we noticed a leak in our garage ceiling. He was available that same day and arrived on time. He spent about 5 minutes just asking me questions to diagnose the issue, before he started any work, which I appreciated. He explained the process to me as he did the work and made sure he pointed problem areas. He was very thorough in checking all possible causes. He even went a step further and walked my backyard to see if he noticed anything odd regarding the septic tank...which was completed unrelated to the call. There was a $39 service fee, which he informed me of before he arrived. He replaced a bathtub overflow and had to pull off some damaged sheetrock in the garage ceiling to diagnose and test the repair. The charge was $90 so I paid a total of $129. I'd assumed the service fee would go towards the repair, which is common experience for me, so it was a surprise when it was itemized as a separate charge from the repair work. However, he was so thorough and accommodating that I felt the $129 was well earned. If work and service were average, I would have gave a 4 star rating. My only issue was that he did not wear a mask. I made sure I had a mask on and was aware of my distance. With covid, wearing a mask to customer's home is an additional courtesy that I think all service techs need to adopt. I did not take off a star for that, as it is not a direct reflection of the work and would normally not be an issue, if we were not dealing with this crisis. The leak has not returned, service was great, he made sure to replace his shoe covers each time before entering the house, he engaged me in an unrelated matter and I did not feel overcharged.
