I dined in at lunch. I ordered the pulled pork plate. Dissatisfied because it was very fatty meat, I ate less than half of the portion. Also, both trash bins were full to the top of opening. All the windows had greasy finger prints. Free icecream. Yuck! My sister and I will NOT be back. read more

I have been going to Dickies for 15 years or so, and for most of that time, have had a good experience. However, about 3 years ago, the Dickies in Mankato underwent some changes that have resulted in terrible customer service and greatly diminished food quality. Most recently, we had a company meeting for which Dickies supplied the food. To make a long story short, Dickies supplied about 70% of the order we had paid for, including a number of sides @ $4.95 apiece. When we first called to inform them of the error, the said they would bring the food down to us right away in an effort to "make it right." After an hour with no food showing up, we called again, and this time received a response that we could be credited back for all of the items they failed to deliver. During this call, they also promised that the manager would be calling us back shortly. We are still waiting for a call back from the manager, a credit to our card, or the food we had ordered. Aside from our most recent experience, I have noticed a trend at the Mankato location to upcharge people for sides that have been reduced to no more than 3 oz. each, and the sandwiches have gone downhill as well - bland and greasy with no condiments. With the quality decrease and portion size reduction, price increases, and severely lacking customer service, I would recommend voting with your dollar and taking your business elsewhere. Otherwise, I am convinced that you will have similar experiences as we have had. read more

Wowwww!! Just blown away with my experience at Dickey's. The New Owner was having lunch and stopped his meal to help one of his workers have a fast and smooth transaction. I spoke with the Owner, who is a super down to earth guy, about his future goals with the place and I can't wait to see the great things he and his crew will do with the restaurant. I felt a craving for BBQ today, probably because it's the 4th and my family usually ate BBQ on this day. I'm away for school in Mankato so I decided to hit up the only BBQ place in town. I ordered the Rib plate with 2 sides and a roll. I decided to get baked beans and potato salad as sides. The ribs were falling off the bone and way more flavorful than expected. The potato salad was good enough, but I've had better at get togethers. You cant really ruin baked beans so that waa good too. One con: the BBQ sauce they gave me was almost empty. Here visiting the area. we are from Iowa. Wish I had read the reviews first but we just happened upon it and thought why not try it? First thing we noticed is there was only one person working, no biggy we are patient and understanding people. 4 people ahead of us. while waiting we notice the guy seemed to hate his job or at the very least was Having a bad day. He got the food for the first three which had already been ordered before we got there. However, he never asked to take the kids order that was in front of us and when the kid finally asked if he was ready to take his order his (Josh the worker) response was, I've been ready I just cant stop moving. So I guess if you want your food you just jump up there and Yell out what you want. Which is what we did. Which we wouldn't have known to do being out of towners. But when I ordered the very first thing I said was I wanted a one meat platter of Marinated chicken but his response was you have to be more specific as to what you want because you could order 6lbs of chicken or a two meat platter. So I said, first thing I said was I wanted a one meat platter. He said it's loud back here and hard to hear. Thats understandable, I get it BUT what I don't get is why he has earbuds in both his ears and the rude way he talks to people. Got our food and sat down and another person came in and had coupon or something and asked if she could have extra sauce and he said we don't do that. She says so we can't get extra sauce? He said I didn't say that. I mean what the heck? He literally just told her that. She got her food and left. Now, the food. I got marinated chicken platter The meat was good other than being barely warm. It was moist and flavor very good. Sides were I thought green beans but wondering if he gave me okra instead because it didnt look or taste like green beans. Not horrible but not great either way. Then potato casserole. Basically chunky mashed potatoes with add ins. Just ok. hubby had pulled pork and waffle fries he said they were just ok. All in all for us it wasn't a horrible experience but we probably wont be going there again or refer anyone to go there mostly because it wasn't a very welcoming or personable place. The owner greeted/served us personally and was such a delight to meet. Food was great and the sauces were spot on. We don't get BBQ often, so we are going to make sure to stop here whenever we are in the area. If you haven't been here in a while, try it again. Ordered a meal through DoorDash and my meal was incorrect and missing items. I drive to the store in hopes of them remaking it and was denied service. I asked for a refund and was denied that. The employee that was working that shift , wasn't wearing a name tag so I couldn't get his name, told me "just because your meat wasn't cut right and items were missing doesn't mean you should get a refund." I've never experienced customer service this terrible before but I will never go to the Dickeys in Mankato again. Went there at 4pm on a Sunday (hours posted on door "every day 11:00-9:00pm") and the door was locked, this has happened multiple times, I called to ask if they were accepting phone orders and the gentleman who picked up said "we're not taking orders today" and hung up. They didnt have the side dishes I ordered and the side dishes they did have were the same quality of a cheap gas station in a small town! I always find it very difficult to find great smoked BBQ. Not this time! And generous portions at a great price. I had the rib plate. Great, fall off the bone, smoked ribs. They come dry and actually no sauce required. Just the way they should be. The plate comes with 2 sides, a roll, dill pickle slices and white onion slices. Wish they had cornbread instead of the roll. The Mac and cheese was good but nothing special. The baked beans had a bit off a kick are were very good. The BBQ sauces are kept warm in a serve yourself warmer. The original was very good with a touch of sweetness. But I didn't care for the sweet (way too sweet and thin) or the spicy (just the sweet with crushed red peppers). No cornbread and the lacking BBQ sauces is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Food was quality good tasting barbeque which is what we have come to expect from Dickey's. We ordered the rib plate and the brisket plate. This is our first visit to the Mankato store after moving into the area and it will likely be our last. The restaurant was not clean. Floors were sticky. The back of the metal serving plates were sticky. All the tables I looked at were dirty. Initially there was only one other man eating in the restaurant. Most of the time we were the only ones in the restaurant. So, it was not busy. I tried several tables trying to find one that was not seriously tipsy, but to no avail. Plus, for some reason they did not have any ice, so the soda was warm. They told us there wasn't any ice for the soda, but after we already ordered our meal. Because of the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant we do not plan to return. We will continue to eat at Dicky's, at other locations, but not at this one. read more

I came here and ordered a quarter slab of shallow-fried ham hocks, lambasted with a honey pickle wasabi, coated in Mr. B's sugary-smoked maple-chipotle tator tot barbeque sauce, and served with a side of Dickey's World Famous Thick n' Funky Mushroom Dribblins. I don't typically like to review chain restaurants however Dickey's is the one of the only BBQ joints in the area, and both the food and service are remarkably good so I wanted to drop a couple of my pennies in the jar. The missus and I are on a weight loss plan at this moment and only give ourselves one weekend a month for cheat-eating, and for each of the last three months our weekends of decadence have been capped off with a takeaway dinner from Dickey's. The missus typically orders pulled pork when we have BBQ, but both she and I have fallen in love with the brisket because it's moist and utterly delicious. I really dig the spicy cheddar sausage, and we both have problems not eating way too much of the perfect mac and cheese. I'm also a fan of Dickey's sauces. The sweet sauce still has a bit of tang, the regular sauce actually has real flavors instead of just being a cloying smoky ketchup like so many other places, and the spicy sauce (my favorite) is an excellent balance of savory and heat. I know slinging food for a living isn't always a fun job, but I never get the impression that the guys behind the counter don't want to be there. They have always been friendly and helpful when I have questions, and they all seem to work well together. We like Dickey's so much that, even though it's fourty minutes there and back to pick it up and bring it home, we always choose it over the local BBQ joint just three minutes away here in Saint Peter. If I had to pick any nit I'd complain that their dessert selection isn't anything special, but the dinner is so good that dessert almost seems unnecessary when I could just have a bit more delicious meats and sides. So there you have it. Like the guy in the commercials says I don't always eat BBQ here in Southern Minnesota, but when I do you bet your sweet bottom it'll be from Dickey's. read more

I would rate them a ZERO if possible. Staff was rude and more interested in playing ganes than serving. Food was dried out and very distasteful. Potatoes were very old. Have eaten here 2 or three times? Here's my take... LOVE: ribs, ribs, ribs! Slow smoked lovelies. Eat in or take out. You can get by the rack or half rack to take out too so great for family meals. Recommend the original sauce drizzled lightly overtop, not necessary but very delicious. Have also tried the honey ham and loved it. I don't know why more folks in Minnesota don't love ham?? Its rare to find in restaurants for sure. SIDES: Nothing but respect for the macaroni and cheese. For me its ALL about the OKRA! Ok so I think this is the only place you will find fried okra in this state. I doubt its ordered often as my fellow Minnesotans will say things to me like "Whats okra?" Seriously? - never even heard of it LOL. Nothing but love and elevated serum cholesterol for the okra, best dipped in ranch. Could eat only that and be very happy. The unsweetened iced tea is a little bland/watery. Eat in portions are HUGE so beware. Overall delicious with a high price to overall value ratio. Highly recommend but don't expect fine dining, just excellent fast food BBQ. read more

While Dickey's is not my favorite BBQ chain, it is still not a bad place to eat. I stopped here a few times while working in Mankato. The store is in a brand new strip mall and is very clean. Staff was friendly and gracious. I had the 2 meat platter one day with pulled pork and chopped brisket. It could be called to 2 Much Meat platter. It is definitely enough meat for 2 people. As always there is free soft serve vanilla ice cream for after your meal. I hope they do well at this location. Working in Mankato showed me that the town does not have many choices but this was a good addition. read more

My boyfriend and I LOVE coming to dickeys so we decided to come on a Friday night. They didn't close for 2 more hours but it looked closed from the outside, one of the employees was walking around sweeping under all of the tables so we stepped inside and asked if they were still open. We got inside and no one was behind the counter, a lady came walking out with no mask on and on her cell phone, looked up and realized there were customers, rolled her eyes and sighed and walked in the back to put her mask on. She came back out and there was a daughter and dad in front of us, we were all looking at the menu and the lady behind the counter yells, "FOR HERE OR TO GO?" Neither party answered and we just kept looking and she yells again, "HELLO?" The male employee sweeping asked us to move out of the way so he could sweep where we were standing so we moved and then he pointed to where he wanted us to move. Can't you wait to finish sweeping until your customers have left? I mean come on. We moved again and were about to order when 2 people from outside came walking in to throw away their garbage and the lady behind the counter, once again YELLS, "HEY HEY HEY HEY BEHIND YOU!" The garbage can was pulled out and the person that was about to throw their garbage in the normal spot didn't see it. Great place to eat. I have been there twice since they opened (yesterday.) I wont say it is the best BBQ i ever had, but it is up there. The price is reasonable and despite being busy their first two days, they kept up and the service was great. The big question is will this last? The owners are a husband and wife team, and after talking to them this seems to be a retirement project of theirs. They have been making themselves available and personable to their guests, which is always a good sign. read more

My family and I went to dickies BBQ pit last night following my graduation from college. It was about 8-830 at night when we arrived. First off they took our orders and put the wrong sides on the wrong plates, not really a big deal. After we got to our table however we found out the meat was cold and the sides werent very fresh either. Also we tried their "FREE" ice cream and it came out like soup. The machine had been set to the wash setting. Also for spending almost $80 for 5 people it wasnt very good food. Not really impressed. Also talked to a couple other familes that had came in after us. They all had an extremely similar experience. The people working behind the counter also were arguing with the customers who had come in after my family for the lack of service. We were in town visiting our son @ MNSU and came across Dickey's for lunch. We all three enjoyed a great meal. Meats were excellently prepared & I appreciated the brisket being sliced up finely v. the strips you usually get. Sauces were very good too & my son highly recommends the mac & cheese.
