I purchased a beautiful men's full zip jacket, a women's wool blend sweater, and a Patagonia hiking shirt that was 50% off. The young man who rang me up was incredibly nice and very chatty. So much so that he accidentally rang up my purchases at full price. When he realized this, he rang me up again, saying, "Don't worry, you won't be charged twice." Long story short, when I went through my bank statement a week later, I'd been charged twice. I went in today with my statement and the clothing and Kyle was INCREDIBLE. Apologetic, helpful, reassuring, saying he'd "take care of it and contact" me tomorrow. THIS IS WHY we love smaller businesses. They are HUMAN and although like all of us, sometimes make errors, they rectified it immediately. And now I will never go back to REI unless Trail Creek simply doesn't carry what I'm looking for. #customers for life.

The employee helping me at the registern couldn't seem to care less and kept giving me attitude. Essentially putting the onus of blame on me, not the company. I then told him that I needed those pairs as soon as possible because the storm was coming tomorrow. He begrudgingly helped me find several other pairs to replace those and I thought everything would be kosher, I would pay the difference on what they were. He never mentioned that due to their policy he could not cancel the original order and I'd have to pay full price for the new pairs and then blindsided me with another $300 bill. I was visually upset by this to which he gave me more attitude and I said this is not my fault and then he said well. "It's not my our fault either, "you can just not show up next and it will be refunded." We can avoid picking those up and you won't be charged. Again placing the problem on me. Never once apologizing about the situation just continuously giving me attitude. The customer service would be a zero if I could give it that. Zero understanding of my situation. Zero respect for me just clearly wanted to leave and as soon as we were done he walked to the back room complaining about his day. Why he kept blaming me and acting like I was the nuisance, is beyond me. I get it, the day was very busy and long. Clearly he had it, also not my fault and no reason to treat me that way. Never apologizing about the situation the online system created. Never expressing any understanding for my poor experience. Never warning me that I'd have to pay twice and wait over a week for my money to be returned. Just blaming me and behaving very poorly. Oh, and the dude was going to throw away my receipt and I had to ask for it. What a PR*** I will go to KoP and avoid this location moving forward. They claim they sent me a cancellation letter in August that I never recieved. They cancelled my card on December 19th and took away my points that were the same as money in Cabelas. I did not receive that cancellation letter until mid January. They just took away the money that I earned using their card. I called the credit department and they told me they could not give me back my points or reopen my card that was dated to expire on 03/29. How can you take away something that someone earned? They should have sent me a gift card to Cabelas for the points that I earned instead of keeping my money. I do not consider this good business!

Head to the website, book the date & time you want and you're done. www.watergapadventure.com/river-trips A few things worth noting: They offer multiple trip lengths. The standard 4-, 6- and 10-mile trip (Smithfield to Portland) are all booked generically and then when you get there you tell them what you want to do. All pricing is the same which believe me compared to others companies, that's very different - in a good way. They do offer two other longer trips but those require calls to the main office I assume to assess river conditions; your own competency and shuttle availability. The main office in Delaware Water Gap is very easy to find and there was plenty of parking on a quiet post-Labor Day Monday. You check in, you're handed a laminated map, life jacket and given a brief route explanation and then you're off in the van. One problem arose and it was kind of a PIA but it was worked around. Most companies have different types/sizes/models of kayaks and quite often, will ask you what you prefer. Not here. When we left the office, the guy driving didn't say a word to me until we get to Smithfield Beach to unload. He had a few kayaks pre-loaded in the carrier but definitely did not look at them before we left. One of them had a broken foot pedal that he said couldn't be used, another was very much designed for a smaller individual (i.e. if you're taller and/or taller & larger it ain't happening safely) which only left two tandem models. Using a tandem as a single individual is not the end of the world but especially when the seats are still left in the two person configuration (i.e. one front and one back versus the rear one being placed more towards the middle), it's a PIA to maneuver the craft and you are paddling harder to get the job done compared to a single. The scenery along the route was decent. You could see a bit of the Shawnee Resort and Golf Course, an old stone bridge abutment in the middle of the river, under and along 80 and then when you get into the Water Gap itself with the high cliff sides. Very picturesque. Once you go under the old train viaduct in Portland, you give the office a call for the shuttle to meet you at the out point which is at the Portland Pedestrian Bridge. The whole experience was about four hours door to door to cover the ten miles on the water plus the shuttle to & from the pick up and drop off points. Lots of nice scenery, due to the low water level there wasn't much in the way of current except for the area around viaduqt in Portland and even that wasn't bad. I'm not a big fan of the equipment here but I wouldn't let that deter me from coming back in the future for one of their northern longer trips.
