This was one of the worst experiences of my 31 year professional life. During my 14 years as a graphic designer/exhibits manager for AT&T reprographics, 13 years owning a successful exhibits company and the last 4 years as a gallery and festival artist, I have never been treated so disrespectfully and with such contempt. I still get angry every time I even think about Barry Glustoff, one of the owners of this company. I was referred to Digital Arts Studio as a slightly (repeat slightly) less expensive alternative for my scanning and Giclee reproduction needs. To compare apples to apples, I used an original that had already been scanned and printed by another local company. I actually provided Barry one of those existing prints along with the artwork and made sure that he knew that I was going to compare them side by side. We selected a paper and I, having a strong printing background, knew there would be a slight variation in the color but that would be able to successfully compare the quality of the two. I ordered ten 11 x 14s and a 16 x 20 I also brought Barry a disk of 4 other existing files of work that I had previously scanned and printed. I ordered ten 11 x 14s prints of those, too, as the Dogwood festival was right around the corner. From there it all fell apart. The new scan and prints had a major magenta cast to them and when I pointed it out to Barry, he blamed it on the lighting AND the paper. He then went on to explain to me that I didn't understand printing, paper and the mechanics of printing and he was plain insulting about it that I got the prints and left. When I examined them when I got home I discovered that there were entire lines missing, things were out of focus AND that they were printed the wrong size. When I called him the next morning he actually got loud and obnoxious and told me that when I ordered them 11 x 14 that meant that the paper size was 11 x 14 and that the print was obviously smaller. What?!! Really?!! I'm supposed to determine the paper size. Interesting, though, was that the 16 x 20 I ordered was the right size. I hung up, called the person who had referred me and drove down to Huff Street in Atlanta. I still don't know what happened in the interim but, thankfully, when I got there Peter intercepted me before I could address Barry. I got new prints but not in time for the Dogwood and now the prints were greenish. I am a pen and ink artist - most of my work is black and white. I'm done. I use the prints as donations. And I ate the $500 it cost for this little experiment. read more

Barry Glustoff and everyone else at Digital Arts Studio are really, truly great. We are a photography studio in Los Angeles, CA and have been working with Barry on giclee prints. From the very start, he and Annie were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in helping us determine what type of paper would best suit our needs. More pros: Super easy and convenient online ordering system. Very affordable prices. Great customer service. To illustrate this last point: The first prints we ordered came back damaged. Barry reprinted them without question, and packaged them the second time with extreme care. Unfortunately, and for some very unusual and unknown reason, the prints were still damaged. Realizing the ink was very delicate and that a protective spray would resolve the issue, I talked with Barry about a possible solution. He offered to personally spray each print with our desired medium, and then double-check the quality of each print before packaging and shipping them to us. For no additional charge. All we needed to do is ship him the protective spray we use (Hahnemule). The ONLY reason why I give them a 4-star rating is because, from my experience, the quality of prints is not consistent. Even after the protective spray, there were some issues that I had to fix myself (some trimming and spotting), and as a photo studio, it makes efficient order completion difficult. Barry did an amazing job of transferring, piecing and mounting newspaper clippings on to lightweight display boards which were used at my parents' 60th wedding anniversary reception. The news paper articles dated back to the early 1930s in Algeria where my father had won an international model airplane/glider competition as a teenager and the front page of a Paris newspaper from 1945 featuring my father as a French pilot in a memorial editorial to the French casualties of the war. These were yellow with age and damaged. These, along with more though the years, were a source of great pleasure for my father as they were admired by the party guests then taken home for display and continued enjoyment. The time and skill required for these presentations are substantial and were beautifully performed. Barry has reproduced them for numerous family members. These are now family keepsakes for forever. The detail, colors, centering and aligning all came out perfect, and the color they chose for the solid border is spot on. I will be using DAS exclusively for my original canvas wraps.
