Then one of my good friends in my later years promised me this would be a great place for a curry. So initial thoughts is it definitely looks outdated outside and in but surprisingly it is not all that uncomfortable with the old wooden decor. I will admit in around 20 visits here I have only ever order the one dish and that is the minced lamb curry with naan, it is that good! Look on the W/ton council website for the environmental health scores on the doors and Jivans scores one of the highest (4 stars) in the town for excellent food standards and kitchen hygiene. Better score than places that charge twice as much! Its only a small place with formica tables, so its not the sort of place for a special meal, there are far more swankier places to visit - but for a quick curry in a hurry after a real ale session, or a curry before the theatre this place can't be beaten. There is nothing wrong with the neighbouring competition, I've tried them all and they're good, even busier, yet I believe the Anise has the edge on quality and presentation. Service may be a bit slower but it is genuinely cooked to order rather than a "ping" and it's ready. The food and starters in particular are as good as it gets for the money. Excellent food, clean restaurant and genuinely friendly staff make it well worth a try in lieu of following the crowd. The only negative is the location of the toilets on the 2nd Floor and the council charging for evening parking in that area. Update That was my opinion in April. We have been back since and been generally pleased but yesterday things weren't as good as previous visits. As said above, service is slower than average but over an hour wait for the starters really is too long especially when there were only two tables occupied all evening.
