I had planned to go back to Bewdley this week-end and continue my goal of going to all their Indian Restaurants but I got distracted by a review of the Jewel in the Express & Star. In truth there was also another reason why we didn't go to Bewdley and that was because the teenage kids wanted to come out with us and I needed to find somewhere that was going to be a little cheaper. The Jewel is unlicensed and that always helps. After reading the E&S review I wasn't exactly sure if they liked it or not but as there didn't seem to be any complaints I decided that's where we're going.Not knowing Willenhall very well we had a bit of trouble finding it, not helped by my Tom Tom not recognising Nr 112. We did eventually find it and parked in the side street opposite, close to the police station who took good care of my car. The first thing I noticed was the giant advertising poster in the window and a TV in the background. It looked quiet inside and I was thinking that this might be an omen but with no where else to go we bit the bullet.As soon as we walked through the door my impression and hopes were instantly raised. We received a very warm welcome from the owner and taken to a nicely presented table. The recently decorated dining area is in two halves either side of the entrance. It is contemporary but not too cold like some and they've decorated it quite well. Look very closely and there's some touching up to do but all is very clean and tidy incl the toilets.You will also see the menu presentation is different, it's just one laminated card instead of the usual pages in a book, whilst this may not be to everyone's taste I liked it and found it convenient. What's on the menu is also refreshingly new, the usual suspects are there but gone are the standard Chef's Specialities & Recommendations that appear on most menus. Instead they've added what apppears to me to be a selection of original dishes. They're under the heading of Fusion which I think well describes them. Rather than just a gimmick it looks like a genuine attempt to try something new. Popadoms and tray was good, no mango chutney but there was a nice red sauce in lieu, note a bigger spoon would have been helpfulWe went for our usual onion bhaji & sheek kebab starters. The bhaji was excellent, fresh, crisp and tasty and so too were the side salads which were an effort above the usual lettuce & cucumber. My kebab was ok, tasty but more of a drier texture rather than the juicier tandoori style which some may prefer. I would have liked a sizzler but it did come with fried onions. The wife stayed safe with a dupiaza, the kids had a tikka masalla between them and I opted for a more adveturous Naga dish from the Fusion range as recommmended by our waiter. The sides comprised of two garlic & coriander nans, fried rice and portion of chips. The main meals were excellent and even if we tried to be picky we really couldn't find any fault with any part of them or the side dishes. Even the chips were crispier than the usual offerings.The Naga was both tasty and hot with a slight sweet & sour kick that gave it something extra. The wife and kids ate all of theirs so unusually not even a doggy bag for later. We were also given (free of charge) a small makhani and a special rice for us to try. At first I thought it was a bit of a bribe but it turned out to be an opportunity for the kitchen to show what else it can do. The makhani was similar to the masalla, mild but had more depth of flavour, the girls loved it and insisted that we had to take one home. The rice was exceptional, a biryani style with chick peas and small grilled paneer cheese cubes as a result I can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes.Despite the generous portions of the main course we managed to talk ourselves into sharing a couple of deserts. The desert menu is a choice of one of those familiar bought in lists but even this had a couple of new choices plus there is banana fritter if you ask for it.The main meal was the best I've had in ages plus the service was very good and the timing spot on, even the kids noticed this and said I had to leave an extra quid in the tip. The E&S review suggested that the Jewel may not be the best restaurant in Willenhall, if that is the case then the others must be truly exceptional. We had one of the best evenings we've ever had at an Indian restaurant in and around the black country. Apparently the new manager has been improving things over the last 12 months or so, if you haven't been recently put him to the test. 4.5 Stars..Update, Most unusually for us we decided to go back to Jewel for a second Saturday in succession. The word must be getting round as it was rather busy and yet the food and service was probably better than week before. Talk of the Town!!! I haven't been to the Jewel for ages, didn't use them since my last two worst curries of all time around 2 years ago. So I decided to give it another try after a few friends from work and also a couple from my local drinking place (Cross Keys Pub Ashmore Lake Road). What have they changed since last time I went? The decor looks the same, but they have changed the multi coloured chairs to some smart leather chairs and started using table clothes that gave it a very posh look, clean and trendy at the same time which makes it a warm place, could do with adding real flowers instead of fake plastic ones apart from that it looks like your normal contemporary restaurant. Also they have added a TV in front of the bar showcasing some of their dishes which was a nice twist. What was the service like? I never had a bad service there to be honest with you, the service is really great but there deliveries sometimes lacked when I ordered over the phone, delivery time around an hour wait, but inside it was so bad, the night I went in was a Saturday, it was pandemonium people everywhere and it was really busy that, we felt that the service could of been better, but the manager explained they had one of the kitchen staff short so they did expect some sort of delay, but after the fact it wasn't so much waiting around but the manager coming over to our table and checking up on us made it worth the wait, as we knew the manager for over 15 years. Overall the staff there are polite, attentive really friendly and always helpful. How was the food? The food was EXCELLENT and extremely DELICIOUS, we didn't order any starters but the manager gave us free starters from there A La Carte menu, I had the Deshi Roast and the wife had the Chilli Paneer, the chicken was really nice and tender and with strong authentic aroma and taste as the manager mentioned before, it is what you would eat if you went to a Bangladeshi house as invited guest, I tried the wife's starter and I bit one of the chillies and had to drain the heat with my cold beer but it really tasted nice I'm one of those who don't eat too much of the spicy foods but my wife really enjoyed it and said she would order that as she liked the idea of Paneer (hard cheese). For our main course I ordered the dish of the day, which was the Modhu Minty Lamb Shank and the wife had the House Special, both dishes came with special rice and we ordered a garlic nan with it, lamb shank was a choice I didn't regret, it had a sweet tangy taste and the lamb was that tender it practically peeled off the bone and the portion was humongous but I managed to eat it all as I really enjoyed it and the wife's house special was well presented, it looked mouth watering but tasted even better, it was a fillet of chicken with garlic mince meat inside which was on top of a sauce it was really tasty and just perfectly cooked, the wife couldn't eat it all unlike me so she had a doggy bag instead, she couldn't eat it all as the popodams filled us up from the beginning. Would I recommend it to anyone? It is a definite yes for me, I really enjoyed it, the atmosphere was okay but the food was even better than what I have ate before when I use to be a regular here, but they have managed to win me over and I will certainly tell friends and family. It's definitely worth a visit for those who haven't tried it out yet! How likely am I to go back? Well it's simple, it's a big yes for me because, I am a regular at the Chilli Peppers and the Silk Bar but here at the Jewel, the food is really great and they offer nice incentives to go back, as I will hopefully get a whopping £10 off my dining-in bill for leaving a feedback for them and also I'll get my Loyalty card filled too, which I reckon not many places offer these incentives for their customers. What's the only drawback if I had any? Well Jewel has always been known for no parking, but I managed to park my car round the back and I have parked my car in front of the police station a few times too so, if there is any they should arrange parking somehow but apart from that it is worth the taxi ride there and if you are lucky enough you might get a free taxi ride back. So what I am saying? I am well pleased for giving it a try after a few years and it was certainly fitting with seeing an old face back running the place, I would give it 9 out of 10 and strongly recommend the food they serve there! read more

I was a regular at the Cloves and my father was a regular at the Bengal relish, not so long ago we all decided to give this restaurant a go after my dad having a bad take-away and several mistakes from the Bengal relish that we gave the Jewel a go, we have now celebrated a birthday there and I have taken my friends there numerous times on the weekends if we are in Willenhall. Restaurant isn't all too colorful but it certainly looks nice and cosy being a place to take friends and family. It also has a warm feel factor to it and I am not surprised my father and friends are now regulars there. We really do like this place as the Manager there is doing something not many restaurants around here are doing. This is something great as they are doing things different and really cool to be fair, just recently the manager invited us to watch the Man v Food competition (15th November 12), it gave me and my dad some time to spend while we catched up with each other, the event was humongous I mean jam packed with diners ready to take on food, we haven't seen that many hungry diners all waiting for their foods but we did have many laughs along with other spectators, seeing all the participants crying and sweating and having to give in once they got to the later dishes. The manager offered us the chance to try out there really spicy curries, unfortunately we declined as I don't like really hot stuff whereas my dad was tempted until he saw my mate crying after he tried it and chickened out. However we will be coming down on the 17th of January on there Smart Dress Night where the chef will be showcasing his skills as a fusion chef by introducing 15 course tasters which include, Italian with Indian, Mexican with Indian, Moroccan with Indian and etc, I can't wait for this event, the jewel is definitely going places and becoming a key restaurant in Willenhall. Let's get down to business, the food is always great and I like what they are doing introducing fusion dishes and there really nice ala carte menu, something that will go a long way in my books. My favorite dishes so far are Chicken Chatt on Puree and Chinese-Indo Fusion for the starters and for my main course which is the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Makhani Chicken and the Chicken Tikka Passanda, these are the only few I have tried on a regular basis, my father's fiancé has been adventurous and tried many other dishes from the Ala carte section same as my dad, but overall the food is absolutely the best and gets better and better each visit. The staff there are super cool, extremely friendly and very helpful; it just adds that extra magic when you visit there, I tell all my friends and work colleagues to try it out, if you guys haven't tried it out it is a big MUST TRY place, you will not regret trying this place out! I have visited the jewel a few times now and have never been disappointed, every time I have been I have been very impressed with their gorgeous food and also the friendly, welcoming staff. There menu holds a vast choice of foods many of which I have not seen in any other Indian restaurants so shows that this restaurant is hosting new and exciting dishes to make them stand out and be unique! On my last visit here I did not know what to have as I wanted to try something different as I previously had my favourite the chicken dhansak of which I love and cannot fault in anyway, defo a 10/10 meal; so this time the waiter suggested for me to try the lamb shank Jaipur as I wanted something with a little kick to it but I told him I cannot handle anything spicy! This was a brilliant suggestion as it was medium in spice- just the way I like it and tangy also the fluffy a la carte rice accompanied it perfectly, a dish I would definitely recommend! For starter I ordered the tandoori fish which was amazing, and cooked to perfection. i usually always opt for a chicken dish but thought I'd be different this time and try new dishes to extend my experiences on Indian cuisine. Previous to this starter the waiter brought over some 'golden lamb balls' for us to try which made us feel very welcomed and not just another customer, he also gave us some nachos of which he is trying out by putting an Indian twist on the original topped nachos, this was a mince meat topping in a scrumptious sauce making it unique! Overall my visit here was brilliant with the staff making you feel personally welcome and the food being out of this world! Will definitely be returning and making this restaurant a regular as it very good value for money, only needed about £15 for two of you as you can take your own alcoholic beverages! Yummy, Yummy and more Yummy stuff at the Jewel! We are regulars at the jewel as we order a take out once a week but the food inside is 100 times better than there take-out, don't get me wrong I love the take-outs but the food inside is out of this world, I love the new Fusion dishes as you can't order these on take-outs, we took a party of 7 last week as my boyfriend's parents came down from London for a visit and we took them here, at first glance my own parents judged the restaurant as just your ordinary Indian restaurant as they use to be regulars in the past, but even they were exceptionally impressed we tried the fusion dishes and other specialties and it was a really nice night out for all of us but what was amazing was the fact that my boyfriend's mother is dangerously allergic to gluten products and the waiter made her aware that 95% of their dishes is gluten free and that just made the day, we are really pleased with everything, the service was okay but could of been better but you can understand the whole place was stacked and they did okay, however the staff there are really friendly and very inviting I would go there again and wouldn't hesitate to take more friends and family to the Jewel Overall great atmosphere, great food and great selection of fusion food. read more

Haven't had chance to go for a curry for a while but went into the Jewel last night . As usual friendly welcome and chat as soon as entering restaurant ...they certainly know how to make you welcome. Seated and seconds later fresh poppadums, onion salad and sauces are infront of me !! After a brief catch up order taken (and they remembered immediately what I had which is highly impressive!). Now my order is slightly different and I told them about a trip to Scotland where I was told in no uncertain terms I couldn't have my favourite dish but insisted !! I have a chicken tikka massalla but have it madras hot ---introduced it to many a friend who now love it!! You get the creaminess of the massalla sauce , the flavour of the tikka and the mouth tingling effect of the madras ....highly recommended to one and all. The food was superb with the peshwari nan totally yummy !! So great value , superb food and first class and friendly service make The Jewel the place to go !! read more

I'm a regular here i go down most weekends with my girlfriend, the food is absolutely awesome the staff are really friendly there. The decor really nice goes with the friendly atmosphere. I tried the Red Thai Chicken from their Alacarte menu, it was fantastic and also the special rice that came with it and the girlfriend tried the Deshi Roast Makani sorry don't know how to spell it as a main dish and she really enjoyed it apparently this dish the waiter recommended doesn't come on the menu until next week she was a little worried as she doesn't try different things but she really enjoyed it. This is the best indian restaurant i've ever been to. The food is always amazing, and the customer service is second to none. The staff can't do enough to help, and are always happy to talk and answer any questions about the food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and i love their delivery service too. Im a really picky eater but have never had a problem here as the food is fantastic. Ive visited several times, and have used the delivery service many times too. I recommend it to all my friends. Been there tonight for my anniversary with my wife and kids and the food was excellent, the guys asked if I can leave a feedback here. My wife and I were lucky enough to visit the restaurant just after the recent redecoration, and found a very pleasant restaurant with friendly knowledgeable staff and excellent food. The staff went overboard to ensure that our night went well, and they were all very attentive to our needs.
