Deeply Disappointed and Humiliated Experience I'm leaving this review after much reflection because I was a long-time customer who truly expected better. Unfortunately, the unprofessional and disrespectful treatment I received--especially during a time of personal loss--was unacceptable. On 9/10, I ordered a strawberry Chantilly cake for my birthday (9/12). I didn't receive a receipt, but since I was a regular, I didn't think much of it. When I cut into the cake on my birthday, it looked and tasted like a traditional strawberry shortcake, not what I had ordered. I decided to return the next day to politely ask for clarification--mainly to understand the difference so I could order correctly in the future. That morning, I learned about the passing of my cousin, and despite being devastated, my family encouraged me to at least enjoy my birthday cake. When I went into the bakery, a young staff member confirmed it appeared to be a traditional shortcake and offered to have the manager speak with me. When the manager (I believe her name was Maria) came out, she immediately displayed a hostile attitude. To my shock, the first thing she did was stick her finger into my cake to taste it and said, "Yeah, it's a Chantilly cake--there's not much difference. I don't see the big deal." I was embarrassed and taken aback but tried to stay calm. Before I could explain that I wasn't upset and only wanted clarity, she raised her voice in front of other customers and staff, saying things like: "Well, what do you want to do? I don't handle complaints well." "We'll give you another cake if that's what you're looking for--I don't care." Her tone and attitude made it clear she assumed I was there to argue or get something for free. I quietly tried to tell her that I was a long-time customer who simply wanted understanding, especially since I was grieving. Her response was cruel and dismissive: "Listen, I just lost my daughter. MY DAUGHTER. Don't talk to me about your cousin." At that point, I was humiliated beyond words. I chose to leave the entire cake behind--no refund, no replacement--just deep disappointment. This experience was the final straw. The unprofessional behavior clearly trickles down from management. The front staff have often been unfriendly, and I've even received stale cupcakes in the past but never complained. Sadly, this incident showed me that customer care is not a priority here. I will never return. What happened was not only disrespectful--it was inhumane. No customer should ever be treated that way, especially during a vulnerable moment. read more

Just awful! Cake frosting is made with LARD!! yes LARD. How do i know, because it sticks to the top of the palate and takes a long time to come off! Also placed a small amount of frosting between three fingers, run under hot water and it does not easily dissolve! they have cut corners on all pastries!! No butter used at all! read more

Italian cookies, bread, cakes, cup cakes, cannolis, cannoli nachos and more! You can even get frozen uncooked sfogliatelle. If you like them and haven't made them fresh at home, you must try it!!! Sadly, DiMare disappoints again. Ordered a strawberry cake and most of the strawberries were moldy. The cake itself was WEIRDLY SALTY and there was way too much cream encasing the cake. I understand that the cream/frosting is also made from shortening which is kind of gross. Quality has gone out the door. DiMare is our go-to bakery (mainly for their Biscotti). The staff are quick and helpful. There are SO many options to choose from (don't forget to order their Macarons which are in the back of the bakery). This bakery is always bustling and never run out of their stock because they're constantly baking. The longest I've ever had to wait was about 10 minutes, it was a busy day. Usually, I never have to wait in line. I highly recommend their cannoli, carrot cake cupcake, red velvet biscotti, macarons, the cookie sandwich, and their chocolate cake with the Oreo on top. I mean, you honestly can't go wrong with any of the options here. The prices are very reasonable and honestly surprising if you've ordered a ton of stuff. This bakery is the perfect choice for getting desserts for a special event or even a treat. Reason for 4 stars: we never really seem to be "welcomed" here. The staff aren't the friendliest in town. I get that we order a few too many things but buying from local businesses during COVID is so important. A smile goes a long way. read more

I ordered a cake for my husband's birthday. The girl on the phone sounded like she'd rather be anywhere but work, and asked me in a monotone voice what color I would like the cake to be. I told her it was for a grown man, and he would be happy with whatever color they chose. I never said that I wanted it plain white with white scalloping that my grade school niece could have done. When I arrived at the bakery, the person at the counter was no better. The customer in front of me asked what colors could be done on something she was ordering, and the girl responded, "I mean, whatever!" Very helpful. When it was my turn, I was told to that my cake wasn't ready, and that it would be a while. Before I could answer, she yells out, "NEXT!" and starts to help the woman behind me. Then the decorator yells out the window to me that the cake was supposed to be picked up at 10, and I was early. Not only was I not told this, simply that they open at 9, it was 9:55 at this point. Even if I was told 10, shouldn't it at least be ready to go into a box at 9:55? If I didn't need the cake that day, I would have walked out. Such a shame. read more

Been going here for many years. The new generation of young girls who work here now are extremely rude. Did not even acknowledge me standing in the shop for 10min. When I said "excuse me" one of the young girls turns around with a look of death to say they are busy. At least acknowledge someone. I never seen worse service. She never apologized or came to help, an older woman ( not rude) came to help. Total embarrassment. Plus everyone looked like they just rolled out of bed... I stopped there to try some cakes for a wedding. I was honored to do it, groomsmen duties ya know. Anyways the place is hidden behind railroad tracks, and what looks like a shipping warehouse. This would be a meet up spot to discuss a beef between the 5 families, secluded off the beaten path, yet still lovely and don't forget ample parking. Oh the cakes, they were excellent. You know, DiMare's used to be a rival bakery - pastries used to be out of this world, as well as their cakes. But I've ordered from them the last 3 times and I've been so disappointed. The cherry on top was today, Jan 6th, for King's Day. I called in at 9:40am, to see if they had any King's Day cakes. I had told them it was not pre-ordered but if they had any available to sell for the occasion and was told yes by the girl on the phone. I asked if they by any chance had any that were gluten free, and although they didn't, I wasn't too upset bc oh well, that's on me right. I let her know we would be by later to pick one up. The custom design was cute, but clearly rushed, they used the wrong cake for the custom one (confetti with lemon /blueberry instead of vanilla cake?!- It was gross- we threw away a $180 cake! I felt I was overcharged - the 'custom' part was minimal on a smaller top cake. The owner was nice- unfortunately, I would not buy from them again. read more

We used DiMare for both our mini wedding day cake (May 2020), as well as our 100-person wedding reception cake (May 2021), and we could not say enough about what a great experience it was working with them! The cake was absolutely delicious, and our guests also commented on how tasty it was. Our frozen slices were even still good on our one year anniversary this year! We had strawberry shortcake/buttercream frosting/frosting flowers for both, but we went to their big tasting event as well, and I can confirm that ALL their cakes/flavors are amazing. DO NOT GO HERE. I went there about a month ago as I happened to be in the area and have bought from DiMares in the past. It was my husbands birthday and all he wanted was chocolate mousse. The woman behind the counter went to get it for me and asked what to write on it. She then showed me and if I didn't look quickly I wouldn't have noticed that the cake was frozen. I didn't expect this and since she already wrote on it I asked how long it took to defrost. She said 4 hours but 8 hours later-left outside of the fridge the whole time-it was still partly frozen in the center. On top of that it tasted stale and we wound up throwing it away. Over $30 down the drain. It was the most disappointing birthday cake I have ever purchased. read more
