I worked with Bill for both my engagement ring and wedding band. Bill took a lot of time to discuss with me the particulars of looking for the perfect diamond. He had a few in stock but also searched around for what I was looking for. He found a great stone that I flew from NC to see and quickly loved it. The diamond was amazing and his price was more than fair, but this is where I should have stopped. Bill works with Dominion Jeweler for the actual ring build, and in hindsight I should have worked directly with them. A lot of details were lost in translation. I asked for my wife's wedding band to match her engagement ring, easy enough I thought since he and Dominion made it. When it showed up it wasn't even close to matching. It was getting close to the wedding date and Bill said if I didn't like the band, I could send it back and he would try to get another one made. After going back and fourth in email he told me he would return my money and I should find someone else to work with. Thanks...its two months prior to the wedding and you have all the design details. Finally after talking it out, he worked with Dominion and made another band, it was several diamonds short and had to be sent back again. By this time, its three weeks before the wedding and the band is still wrong. It was fixed (still a diamond short) but the whole time he made me feel like I was a difficult client. I spent over $22k on the two rings and expected better customer service. I was made to feel my attention to detail was bothersome. Never did he say this is such an important purchase, I will make it right. In fact he was condescending and he brushed off my concerns. I am a repeat customer with Dimonz and have no other relationship with Dimonz or with Bill Bailey. I wanted to knock the socks off my, then yet-to-be, fiancé. In the end I succeeded, in fact I have done so several times by now. Here is my first hand account of how it all came about with Dimonz and what a perfectly wonderful experience I have had with Bill Bailey, whom I met for the first time as described here. First I went to Chicago and shopped the length of famous Wasash Avenue, "Jewelers' Row," and its side streets. There I found gorgeous selections at horrific prices. I had to drastically cut my expectations. Then I went into research mode and uncovered Dimonz in my own back yard. Dimonz appeared to be a most unlikely source that enabled me to exceed my original desires with no compromises, and to do so affordably. For the record, Dimonz is fully certified by the best international diamond (and other gemstone) grading agencies. Bill has outstanding experience, including stints in what I will call the Byzantine wholesale diamond houses of Europe. To me this was an unbelievable find. Being skeptical of something that seemed be too good to be true, I did some digging and only found reasons to give Dimonz a try. So I did. Bill Bailey is known for 'educating' his clients. My goodness, what an understatement! I had already done a heap of homework on buying a diamond. I was already 'educated' on the subject. I knew just what I wanted in clarity, cut, carat, color and the fifth "C," cost. And I had seen them on the Wabash. I had haggled. I was ready. After spending 3-4 hours, one-on-one, with Bill on our first meet, I realized that I had barely scratched the surface on what I needed to know and to consider. He covered and ratified everything I knew in our first fifteen minutes. I really had done my homework well. Apparently I had gotten myself somewhat past kindergarten on my own and had done so with flying colors. Then for the next few hours Bill and I got to the meat of how really to select diamonds. What an education! We went over everything from the basic four C's to how diamonds make their way from the mines to a setting on a ring and , eventually, onto a beloved's ring finger. It was the last two stages that we finally dwelt on. What was most valuable was how he taught me to prioritize the 4C's in the selection process and how to trade up and down the scale of each "C" to home in on exactly just what the right diamond would be for each component of a multi-diamond ring. That was like graduate school in diamond selection, having just entered at a pre-school level. He was patient and pulled me through it successfully. Wow! What a difference it made in the end result. It is not just about how to select "the" diamond. It is about how to balance an ensemble of different sizes and grades of diamonds in a setting with a ring whereon each diamond not only compliments but also highlights the others in a presentation that will shout, not just whimper. What does it shout? "You are my love. I want us to be married. And I want the world to know that!" The result? Stunning, simply stunning and at stunningly less an expense than what I had seen on the internet and in the stores, particularly along the fiercely competitive Wabash Avenue. Oh, and she did say "Yes!" ... and still does. So do the rings! Did we have to tweak the design a couple of times? Yes, and Bill was there unfailingly to guide my hand through a couple of minor improvements on our first design. He did not increase his price for all the time he spent with me. Amazingly, the day after he quoted me a price and I paid him for the diamonds, the wholesale price of diamond "rounds" jumped up markedly, worldwide. I verified this independently. His remark to me on that was simply one of congratulations on my having gotten an even better price than I thought I had gotten. No hard feelings from him, just supportive. Over the past few years I have bought more diamond jewelry, always from Dimonz. I just can't beat his performance anywhere I have looked. And I always know I am getting more diamond quality and better jewelry quality per dollar than I can elsewhere, hands down. Plus, I have expert advice and artistic control when I want it.
