I just needed one link added to a necklace to reconnect it and they quoted me $30. I figured since the link was so small maybe they just needed to charge a little more than other prices I have seen quoted for this place. When I came back to pick it up, the link they put in was not the same size as the other links on the necklace, which is noticeable because it sits on the front of my neck and also they didn't take out a small knot in the chain. I would've hoped for that price they could have done that. I asked the person checking out if they could try to do that and she couldn't figure it out. So now I'm out $30 with a mismatched necklace with a knot in it. They were done in about an hour. read more

We already had an heirloom engagement ring from the early 1900s, which Michael repaired and restored beautifully. When it came to picking out our wedding bands, he was super patient with us as we tried on many different options from his showcase and wasn't pushy at all when it came to our selections. He wanted us to choose the rings that we were most drawn to, and when he did make occasional suggestions, we could tell that he was giving honest feedback based on our preferences (rather than pointing us to the most expensive options). He was also super accommodating with a last-minute, same-day resizing, and surprised us with a customized ring box with our names on it when we came to pick up our bands! This review is for the excellent service I received from a recent ring re-sizing (had a baby!) of my wedding and engagement ring, which I purchased from The Top Jewelers back in 2019. After unsuccessfully trying to find someone to resize my ring in Boston (where I live now) either they were hesitant to work on my ring (it has crisscross design) or the jewelry stores here would send it to another place to resize -- I reached back out to Michael. Even after 5 years, he treated me as a regular customer and helped me ship my ring insured to his shop to resize and it was shipped back with quick turn around with no issues. There are probably only three or four characteristics you look for in a jeweler. Michael at Top Jewelers has them all. We need to repair a wedding ring and a Platinum engagement ring that were cut off for surgery. Michael gave us a very reasonable estimate, less than we expected. He estimated two weeks for the various repairs. (He also built up the mounts holding the diamond in place and had to add some Platinum to repair a crack. The rings were both ready in only a few days, and the actual cost was less than quoted. Both rings are beautiful now, just like new. Our experience with The Top Jewelers and Michael was 100% positive. We worked with Michael to fit family stones into a flexible pre-designed ring. The rings we ended up with are perfect: beautiful, interesting, and just right for us. We easily stayed within our budget. Michael worked with a really quick timeline and was pleasant, easygoing, and informative. My partner and I were a little nervous diving into this process and initially weren't sure we would. The price point of many engagement and wedding rings scared us and we thought it would be difficult to find a ring that felt like us without shelling out for an entirely custom design. I went to an authorized repair shop because I thought it was broken, and welp, they said that the battery just needed to be replaced. Mike is a mastermind. A mad genius of jewelry. Except without the 'mad' part. He's awesome. The first time I brought in my fiancé's engagement ring (inherited from my great great grandmither from the 1920s) to be cleaned, it looked like a whole new ring. Absolutely amazing. A family owned business that has been in the same place on the Pike since 1981. Seriously, they have an amazing selection of jewelry, gold, silver, and time pieces. I spent a long, long time reviewing and researching jewelers in the area because I needed my wedding band and engagement ring re-sized. I've heard horror stories of jewelers swapping out diamonds (?!?!) or doing poor quality repairs which leave the bands weak. Every place I called (including the large family-owned chain from Richmond with a store in Tyson's) explained that they 'send the rings out" to be re-sized. You don't get them back for over a week. That weirded me out! I want my rings re-sized by the person I meet in the store, not mailed and repaired by a stranger. Thank you, Yelpers, for leading me Micheal at Top Jewelers. He took his time on the phone and in person, explaining the process and costs of ring re-sizing. He and his family do all the work there in the store in about 3 days. Once the rings are returned, you have 9 or 10 days (I don't remember exactly) to wear them and return if you need to for another re-sizing at no cost. Thank God we found this place!! The engagement ring I bought for my fiancee was way to big so i got it resized at a shop in DC. Well, the butchered it. It was misshapen, scuffed, the setting looked bent. My fiancee was distraught. We complained to the proprietor and he dismissively said it just needs to be polished, "don't get all upset!" He told us to bring it back in two days when the jeweler would be in and he would buff it. Well, this was terrible news and I even looked into getting a different setting! Luckily, we listened to Yelp and visited this gem of a shop. Michael and his mom were so nice and they recognized our problem immediately. Michael took the ring and examined it and said "I'll take care of you." And that's exactly what he did. We dropped the ring off on Thursday afternoon and by Saturday morning it was perfect! He looked after every detail and could not have been more professional. We will definitely be coming back to The Top Jewelers to buy our wedding bands and my fiancee already bought some silver earrings from them that she really loves. Eh. I went because there were tons of 5-star reviews, but really - I... I just don't see it. I can recall plenty of minuses: - Parking for the store sucks. - The storefront is small. - It doesn't feel like a jewelry store. The door was propped open, and the radio was on to Top 40. It feels like a jewelry and watch repair. - The kid behind the counter came off as, well, a kid. I asked to see a range of pieces, and asked for suggestions, and really just got a blank look in exchange. I brought up a few sample items I might have in mind, and he really wanted to push the items he had under the glass. After a few minutes of pulling teeth, I decided to give up, and look elsewhere - though I did take an interest in one piece, and if all else failed, I could at least ask about that one. I asked if they had a card - "Aw, dude, you know where we are." ... seriously? Maybe they're good at repairs or something, but the sales aspect just sucked. I'd get a better salesman at someone's car trunk or selling spoons from a trenchcoat. Usually, I wouldn't even mind something like this, but for jewelry, you'd like someone to try and help you find something. I just can't remember walking into a place, being ready to spend money, and feel like I'm struggling to see some merch. Chanlee was extremely helpful in helping me select the perfect ring. Their prices were very reasonable, especially when comparing the same diamond across other jewelers including online jewelers such as BlueNile. Since then, my fiancee and I have been back a few times to get her ring resized and polished. Michael, Chanlee's son, has always been very helpful and expedient when it came to resizing the ring. We've also come back to pick out our wedding bands, also at a very fair price. We searched high and low but Top Jewelers was the best in terms of customer service, price competitiveness and styles. We had our own diamond and needed a setting. We were concerned that no-one would take us seriously or give us a fair price since there isn't a lot of room for profit with just a ring setting. Every jeweler we went to either were not responsive or wanted an arm and a leg for a simple plat setting with a few measly side stones (like upwards of $4000!!!). Finally we found Top Jewelers! At first, I was concerned that the place was small with a small selection but Michael dispelled my concerns by showing me his website with thousands of settings to choose from. We ultimately picked a setting that he had right in his display cabinet and it is GORGEOUS!!! The design is delicate and intricate. Substantial without being overpowering. What a hidden gem in the bustling Penrose Square area! I stopped in looking to get my watch battery replaced and found that looks can be deceiving! From the unassuming storefront one could not guess what a nice shop is hidden inside. The doorbell/buzzer entrance was a bit off putting, but understandable for a small jewelry store along the busy Columbia Pike corridor. The interior is in good taste and laid out in easy-to-navigate manner. My battery was replaced in less than 5 minutes by the friendly gentleman who was working there. I wish I had found this place before I bought my wife's ring (at a national chain). This is a great local business that is worth a visit!
