As soon as we walked in we were greeted by an unfriendly gora guy with glasses. Obviously no smart seller is going to name a price and he asked us not to waste his time after we didn't...anyways the entire process took 3 minutes. Whatever you do DON'T sell your jewelry / gold here. Had a 4.2 gram 21k gold ring which in today's value would be $497 ($118 per gram). It had a few cubic zirconia diamonds, and that justified the guy offering us $280 at best. We had just come from another store Bullion Bank that offered $330 and after telling him this, he scoffed and told us there was no way he could match that, so we walked out. Such scammers! Had a horrible experience here and was scammed. Came in to have them adjust the size on two gold bracelets, and I specifically asked that they don't cut off any gold from them, but just to add hoops so I can clip the bracelets tighter. Even with these instructions, and even after paying for both bracelets to be adjusted, they went ahead and cut off gold from one bracelet to make it smaller, kept that gold, and cut off hoops from the second bracelet and didn't even adjust the size of it. All in all they scammed me out of $80 for two bracelets adjustments when they only actually made one smaller, charged me for two, cut the gold off after I specifically asked them not to, and kept that gold. Terrible service and these people are truly scammers, I'd advise anyone thinking to come here for any reason not to and to consider any other jeweler in the area. read more

They are extremely accommodating with creating your vision. I can tell you that, their willingness to price match online can show you that, but if you're anything like me you won't believe that until you see it for yourself. I purchased an engagement ring online (sight unseen in-person, except through photos and videos) from May Jewelers, which was recommended to me from a friend who had purchased from there previously. Anh helped me select a great diamond and band that was within my price range and looked amazing when I got it! I was looking at less-than-flawless diamonds and was worried about buying one without seeing it in person first, but Anh assured me it was eye clean and gorgeous, and she was right on! The band (halo, platinum) also ended up being a great value, even though I had been mostly focused on the actual diamond. When I went to get the ring independently appraised, the appraiser commented that the band looked very high quality. Buying diamonds online is super stressful (especially for less-than-flawless diamonds) and having somebody knowledgeable and honest like Anh in your corner was very helpful. I found this place on Yelp, so here I've returned to agree with nearly everyone else, May Jewelers rocks! After a sad experience at Charleston Alexander, I was resigned to buying an engagement ring online until seeing comparable prices at May's. I stopped by one Tuesday lunch and met Vincent who saw me through the rest of the way. He showed exactly the setting I asked for (1/2 pave halo) and set it aside with a $100 deposit. Next, we talked diamonds and showed me the cushion cuts he had on hand. None were perfect, so he ordered a few he had on his website (mayjewelers.com) which showed up a few days later. All three of these new diamonds were good, so I picked the best one and was all set. No two diamonds are the same, and Vincent went the extra step to show me more details about each one. He took a couple outside so I could see them in natural sunlight. We got them under the loupe for a better look and then even under a microscope so I could verify the serial number. I took a couple days to think it all over one last time, and Vincent held onto the ring and diamond together under the $100 refundable deposit. He even went ahead and had the diamond set so I could see the finished ring before purchase. Finally, if you have an address out of VA state (I live in MD), he can ship you the ring to avoid the 5% sales tax (!) an advantage of online sales. As I mentioned, the family business has their workshop on the premises, and their turnaround time is remarkable. After proposing, I took the soon-to-be to the store for final (no charge) fitting taking the ring from a 5.5 to a 4.75. They only needed about an hour. Corporate places ship their rings off someplace for fittings, so they might need a week or two (?). Oh, yeah, finally she LOVES it and can't stop looking at the ring and smiling! The first time we went, they gave us print outs of a few different diamonds' specs and the price they were offering. They encouraged him to continue shopping around but knew he would be back. After checking with other local, national chain, and online jewelers, he was back at May's a few weeks later. Customer service: We were helped by John, Vincent, and another young lady during our two trips there. All of them were friendly, exceptionally committed to their customers, and confident that they were the best at what they do. Consistency: When you go to May's, you realize that almost everyone in there is a return customer. The folks at May's were surprised that we weren't referred there since they get their work mostly from past customers. After having gone with my brother to a few different shops, May's has made me a convert as well. Beyond being given free diamonds, I'm not sure how I could've possibly had a better engagement ring shopping experience than the one I had at May over the past couple of months. Anh and John were both super friendly, responsive, and helpful. I continually bombarded Anh with e-mail questions, came in 3 times to look at rings and stones, and not once did she ever act as if I were a burden on her. Being in the Tysons area, I'm sure they deal with people with much higher budgets than mine, yet they made me feel like they wanted my business and did everything they could to make sure I had a great experience and purchased a ring from them. If you've convinced yourself that buying a ring from Blue Nile is the best deal you can get, I highly encourage you to go to May Jewelers and see what Anh and John can offer you. I ended up below budget, was able to customize my own ring, and got a final product that has impressed everyone who has seen it. This is a long overdue review of the GARBAGE we purchased from May jewelers. I am shocked this place has so many raving yelp reviews and we've heard so many referrals while we were in the store. My fiance and I purchased a platinum pave engagement setting around Christmas time. They had to special order the matching wedding band since they did not have it at the store. First trip: I stopped by to check on the wedding band status after two months has passed - I was told that they had miss placed the order ticket, so they will rush order one for me ready in about a week. Second trip: We went to pick up the wedding band #1 a few weeks later, and only to realize the band they had ordered for me does not fit flush against the engagement ring. I am not extremely picky, but if you were to spend ~$2500 on something so small, I expect the two to look like a set. John found a band they carried in the store that looked like it would be a perfect fit - only problem that it was 2 sizes too small. So he said give him another week, and he will resize it to my size. Third trip: Fast forward another week, wedding band #2 is ready. When I tried on the engagement and wedding bands together, the two fit perfectly flush. However, a whole new problem came up, the length of 3/4 paved diamonds on the bands did not match - the left side was too long and right side was too short. John says, no problem, give me another week, I will make you another band - leave your engagement ring, so we will make sure the two are perfect. Fourth trip: It is now the beginning of April - 4 months after we made the purchase, I finally picked up both of pieces. The fit and side diamonds matched perfectly - but the designs did not. The engagement ring is 3 sided pave, and wedding band #3 is only top side pave.. Not only that, I noticed a small diamond had fallen out on the engagement ring. John replaced the missing diamond free of charge. At this point, I am so sick of jewelry stores - I took both pieces home - mismatched or not - I don't want to shop anymore. TRIP NUMBER FIVE: Today I noticed another tiny diamond had fallen out from the engagement ring - I have had it with this garbage. I have never given a store so many opportunities to keep my business. This is the straw that broke the camel's back.. I have wore the ring for 4 months, and two small diamonds had fallen out already.. I can't imagine what it would be like after a few years.. all 48 would be missing I bet. I returned both pieces and got all my $$ minus mounting fee... I honestly do not feel like I should even let them keep the $100... they have wasted ~ 7 hours of my life, 5 gallons of gas and caused unnecessary stress ... I should be charging them. I am not saying the staff isn't nice - I am not saying they haven't tried to make it work. I am just frustrated and annoyed with the whole experience - from multiple trips back to the store to the POOR craftsmanship of their product. They are by far the best value and best prices that you will find in our area. The fiance went to several Jewelry stores in our area and even looked online at Blue Nile but never found a better deal or as beautiful of a diamond than he did at Mays. We ended up ordering both the engagement ring and our wedding bands from them and Vicky was amazing through the entire process. My fiance ended up custom making my engagement ring right down to every detail of the setting and Vicky was informative, patient, knowledgeable and communicative every step of the way. He said it even came in way earlier than the estimate that he was given. I am in LOVE with how it turned out and can't wait to wear it every day for the rest of my life!!! I'm surprised this place has so many good reviews. I was in there today and waited 15 minutes - I did not receive even one slight nod of acknowledgement during that time. The sales staff was helping other customers, but there were several opportunities (such as when the client was looking at a catalog or on their phone) when the staff could have said "I'll be right with you." Or they could have at least made eye contact with me. No one glanced my way as I walked to the door to leave. I was kind of playing chicken with them, thinking they'd say "I'm sorry" or something, but nothing. A staff member eating his lunch at the end of one of the counters did make some kind of noise, but I think it was meant for the (very cute) white dog who had popped his head out of the office. The dog made eye contact with me. The sales staff did not. For a moment, I worried that I might be a ghost who hasn't yet realized she died (dogs see ghosts, right?). But I was honked at by an angry motorist on the way out of the parking lot, and you are now reading this review -- so I must be alive. I notice that other reviews do mention making an appointment with the staff here. Perhaps you need an appointment to talk in depth to a member of the sales staff, but you shouldn't need one to just be acknowledged. I would not have had a problem if someone said "Do you have an appointment" -- that way I could call later to set one up if they didn't have time to schedule one for me at that moment. read more
