Less than two years later, I got to tour the UK again and ended it by spending an extra week up in Scotland. This place had the standard fish and chips, but also had a dozen deep fried items. Pizza, candy, haggis, blood sausage, hot dogs, etc! I tried almost all of it and it was all what you'd expect it to be, delicious! The deep fried pizza was made from the cheapest frozen pizza possible. Battered, fried and served with greasy chips, it's a heart attack in a plastic basket, but so good! I'm pretty sure I even topped it all with salt. But really, the ultimate indulgence was the deep fried haggis. If you know what haggis is made out of, you'll know just that can be pretty rank. Deep frying it just makes it even better. It's no secret why Scotland is such an unhealthy populous, but at least they've got some great fried foods!

What a great chippy!…read more Up until about a year ago, when I was last in, this place only used to sell your traditional "chippy" menu; chips, sausages, fish, black pudding, pies etc. But I decided to pop in the other night because I was craving for a sausage supper and it was always my go-to chippy. Upon entering I noticed they now have big menus up on the wall behind the counter with about 60 things on the menu, and various deals and snack boxes that you can get. They now sell everything, from everything they used to sell, to bolognese and carbonara, various different flavours of pizzas and chicken wings. They also have deals on, like 6 chicken wings and chips for a set price, a large snack box with a bit of everything for a set price (I would write the prices if I knew them!) I was pretty impressed with their selection of things! Fiona's, on top of their now wonderfully extensive menu, has a large selection of Equi's Ice Cream as well, with about 20 different flavours and 3 different sizes of tubs. Yum!

As we had a bit of a drive home (maybe 20 minutes) I asked to have the sauce put in a wee tub which they happily did. Graeme also got a poke of fries and home we headed. I would say that the large portion is actually kind of small - a good serving for one person which is ok (although pricey at £2.75 for chips). We had lots of sauce in our wee tub so that was good. The chips themselves weren't very impressive and I'll admit I was really disappointed. The chips were a bit soft and pretty pale for chips that are meant to be twice cooked. When we'd ordered in the shop we only had to wait maybe two minutes so perhaps they weren't cooked fresh. They are pretty chunky for frites. The mayo was ok - I wouldn't say I could overly detect the mango chutney flavour though. Sadly, these didn't live up to expections. I've had some amazing Belgian fries and these didn't make the cut. I would definitely go back as I'm not sure if it was just new-opening issues but I will be a bit less excited next time.

There is no seating in this location, and it gets quite busy at night as they're open late for the pub and bar crowds, but during the day there was no lineup and I barely had to wait at all. Last Christmas I was doing some last minute shopping with my friend and we decided to go here for a little snack as we were feeling peckish. I opted for my usual kind of baked potato - beans and cheese. It was delicious and not too pricey either! Even better was the fact that we didn't have to wait for an age to get served and the staff here are very friendly too which is an added bonus. I've also been doing my research and found a few facts about Spud U Like potatoes; 1) They are high in fibre which is doubled when you eat the skin. 2) They provide about one third of the recommended daily dose of vitamin C. 3) There are only 25 calories per ounce in a spudulike potato. 4) They are virtually fat free! K. Fish & Chips. What I did not expect, was to also have my first experience with deep fried pizza! It was awesome...Friggin' fantastic! The fish wasn't bad either...two large cod fillets and loaded with a huge order of fries. Cash only here as they take no plastic. Thank goodness for the ATM around the corner. They thrive on the squad of schoolies from Dalziel High School down the road though at lunch time. I dare anyone to try get served in here at lunchtime. The food is great, and not as expensive as other chip shops, with a constant wee production line waiting for you in the hot plate. Sometimes the chips aren't piping hot, but that's about all I have to say as a negative point. They also do a half a fish supper type contraption which is becoming more and more common which I won't argue with one bit. The ice cream, as has been mentioned, is also excellent. There's also something slightly nice about the wee box they give you your food in with Marcantonio's on it, as if they take a wee bit more pride in their business than other places.
