On the plus side the fish is fantastic, really fresh. On the minus side the batter is very greasy and the chips are way too thick.

The garlic mayo was a triumph, not too strong but still really flavourful.

The menu and prices haven't changed in years - it's comforting, especially for my wallet! For under a fiver you can stuff your face full of a tasty fish supper, complete with a roll for your chips and a pickle on the side. This is the style of chip shop where the fries are fat and flavoured, absorbing as much salt and vinegar as you want! They also do a mean pizza with a wide variety of toppings available. I'm pretty sure I managed to get a seafood pizza a while back with anchovies diced all over it and I remember it being very tasty indeed. The staff are full of banter and it's got that local, welcoming feel. The Sun is set in the middle of Helensburgh and offers a delivery service so you needn't worry since it's never far away! However, if you fancy burning off some calories before you digest your deep fried nibbles, it's only a few short blocks up from the shoreline so I'd suggest the trek little up the hill, a saunter back along the beach with your bag of chips and a pat to yourself on the back for exercising while treating yourself!

The grumpy goose in charge now would do well to smile a little - but the food is edible. Its not of the standard it was but its worth a visit if the Palace is queued out as it usually is at weekends. Have to say though the turkish staff could stop talking in front of customers the way they do as its a little off putting!

The very rude waiter told us that he could not sit down for 5 minutes whilst we paid our bill. He said that all the tables were booked, yet the restaurant was empty. He could have asked him to sit at the bar? He was extremely rude and followed us out of the restaurant and was being rather aggressive. Absolutely shocked at his behaviour. Will definitely not be returning here.

My brother and I suggested to my Grandpa we visit here and we're not disappointed. It's a bit difficult for my grandpa on a walking stick to get to as you have a 100m walk on cobbles but the interior is worth it. It's an old yard almost with high ceilings and still brick walls. About 8 tables downstairs and a huge upstairs seating area with the kitchen in full view. I loved the blackboard with all the menu items. I had an incredible crayfish and rocket sandwich which was huge! Personally would have preferred it open to having two slices of toasted bread. My brother said his Philly steak sandwich was awesome and he admitted to being full, no mean feat. My grandpa had the soup which came super quickly (always good as my grandpa liked quick service), and a huge portion of fish and chips. As in two fillets of chips and thick chunky chips. For anyone wondering, they don't serve ginger ale which disappointed my grandpa. They are also opening in the evenings for market meals!

The name of the restaurant was in sideways vertical lettering on the building face. Making my way in the entrance, a host greeted me and took me to an open table. The dinner rush at that time was small, and I looked over the menu. I went with fried haddock, hand-cut baked/fried chips, small white orbs of pickled onions, and tartar sauce. For my beverage I went with water with lemon in it. Prices were excellent (for example the pickled onions were less than one pound) and the servings were very large, I was happy I was hungry. The fish was perfectly flaky and fried to a golden perfection. The tartar sauce was thick and flavorful and the fries not too crispy nor soggy. They were especially good dipped in the tartar sauce. The restrooms were marked by gender - male and female. I felt more at home with those terms than I did the terms man and woman used back in the United States of America. Found it as a form of confidence builder as a female solo traveler that night. It was still light out when I left and I felt safe walking back out through the alley and to my hotel.
