The following year I hired another CPA who reviewed Dinatale's work and a refile was suggested as items were overlooked by Dinatale. "Chit-chat...." That's exactly the attitude I was talking about in my review. People don't call accountants to simply chit-chat. All you had to do was say you're office could not take on anymore clients at that time but that's not how you presented it. You also could have suggested to file an extension then your offices could assist but you didn't do that either. Was looking for a new CPA for taxes and one very specific issue. Found Nick. Talked with him and appears would be a good fit. I was clear the most important item was the specific issue. Got a ball park on costs which seemed reasonable and he kept reassuring me that it will be covered. I never looking for the lowest cost - just a good value. As taxes were being done, kept getting questions about things that seemed should have been obvious. Right near the end (and close to deadline) got an email indicating costs would be almost 3X what was originally told. Had to go through at this point. Justification was had to create a solid foundation (keep in mind have had taxes done for 10+years by another CPA). Kept saying that prior CPA didn't interpret rules correctly. Finally got taxes done (had to also file late which is fine). My experience has been that if you owe for a tax year (beyond a certain amount), you should plan on increasing deductions or making estimated quarterly payments. When I asked about this, I was given a reason that there is no way anyone would be able to predict the future. Would need to spend lots of time to do a financial analysis, etc.. As I kept pushing (simple answer is if you expect no changes, whatever you own, expect to have to owe the same so use that figure), the response was finally that I did not answer one question in his questionnaire that I needed/wanted this service. I answered the question as "not sure what this means". Finally he said, well sure you can just assume you would owe the same next year so you this figure for estimated payments. Finally all he would do about the original specific issue was keep forwarding a website link to investigate on my own. Too me classic fishing for more money/time. Bate and switch. I do think the taxes were done accurately, but 3X the cost. Way overkill for my needs/purposes. If I was a corporation subject to audits, maybe I would use him. As a normal person, just looking to file taxes, never again. Seems competent, but not a good value. read more
