A perfect spring day to walk around the River District Since this event has started, I have never missed one. About 20 restaurants and bars participate is providing a small bit or amuse bouche. This gives you a chance to come in and check out the establishment. The list of participants seems to change a little from each walk. We have experienced delicious chocolate from two stops, Thai food, various pizzas and some many other bits. Also along the way there are usually some drink specials to purchase separately. It's a lot to get it all in in three hours. But truly a great way to hang out with friends for the afternoon and see what downtown food spots have to offer. Your ticket is just $20. THIS IS NOT THE WINE WALK! This is a bi-annual event that showcases the businesses of Downtown Reno with a focus on the area on and adjacent to the Riverwalk. The "Dine the District Food Walk" is a ticketed event. This time it was 14 businesses for $20. The number of tickets is limited so one does not get the huge hoards of people that usually occur during the monthly wine walk. This is all about the food and showcasing the local businesses downtown. This is the third time I have participated in this event and it get better each time. The participating businesses are a bit spread out, but that is a good thing. You get to "walk off" all the calories before indulging in the next bite. Even though each place offers a sample, I find it most satisfying. There are some fairly substantial offerings along the way. All the venues have areas to sit and enjoy the treat and most offer water. It was warm this time and keeping hydrated is a must. This time felt less rushed and we were able to sample all the spots while maintaining a leisurely pace. The few times we had to wait in line they were very short. The only time we had to wait more than a minute was when an entitled customer felt she needed to take five minutes to have an in-depth conversation with the owner about their business, what they offered, when they were open, could she book a group . . . . . until the line had built until it was almost out the door. Hello - unfortunately I'm writing to express disappointment in yesterday's (10-14-17) Dine the District event. I attended with my husband, and the first issue was getting our maps and armbands. It seemed the line could have moved quite a bit quicker if the process were more organized. My husband suggested having separate lines for pre-paid and paying on day-of. Perhaps a few more people at the registration desk would also be helpful. The other issue is that several of the restaurants on the map had signs on the door saying they were not participating. That was very frustrating. We understand that "things happen" but we've never experienced that before with this event and to have at least three businesses cancel seems excessive. And no raffle! We have enjoyed this event in the past and hope some changes can be made to remedy these issues; as it is now, I doubt we would attend again. UPDATE, 10-16-17: I added a star to my rating after receiving an email from the sponsors (The Riverwalk District - Merchant Association) less than 24 hours after I emailed them, and on a Sunday no less. They refunded both our tickets; while that was not my intent when I sent them an email, I do appreciate the very fast response to my concerns. My hope (which I passed on to them) is that they evaluate the event and make appropriate changes so it can reach its potential as one of Reno's most fun local events. UPDATE, 10-16-17: Later this day I received an email from the president of the Riverwalk Merchant Association. They are already making changes to the event to improve it, such as holding participating restaurants accountable by putting them on probation. "Come walk along the water!" they said. "Shop! Dine! Enjoy!" they said. They promised art and good coffee and fine wine in a "safe, fun, friendly area." The map showed it to be mere blocks from the Siena. If by friendly, they mean getting leered at, being asked where my boyfriend was, or being asked if I'd lend out my cell phone (while I was talking on it!), it sure was friendly. If by fun, they meant getting a tattoo or pawning something, there was plenty o' fun to be had. In all fairness, that was the walk to/from the Riverwalk. Once I got to the sanctioned art district, there were neat little shops and hipstery folks and greenery. However, I wasn't willing to brave the gauntlet of humanity to go there again. read more

This is the second time we've done Dine The District. We enjoyed it however 3 businesses canceled at the last minute and did not participate. And there was no raffle ! Out of 20 businesses it's hard to believe that not even half of them couldn't donate 1 gift certificate ? Other than that, we enjoyed it. I feel that Pizza Reno stood out with tasty Italian meatball sliders and $1 beer specials (blue moon or 805)...these beers came in mini glasses and were probably 4-6 oz but a great deal for $1! And you could get as many as you wanted. We each got 2. No really long lines this year, each business seemed to be well organized to keep things flowing. read more

WHAT THE WINE WALK IS SUPPOSED TO BE: A monthly event where wine-loving Reno-ites stroll leisurely through the lovely Riverwalk district downtown, sampling various wines (spitting out in the bucket, of course) at the area's many local businesses and maybe even doing a bit of shopping. WHAT THE WINE WALK ACTUALLY IS: A monthly event where hundreds of drunks descend upon downtown Reno and rush around trying to "taste" as many wines as possible before the three hour alloted time is up. The spit buckets remain dry as local business owners try valiantly to keep up with the hoards by serving the cheapest wine they can get their hands on. By 5:00 the streets are crowded with stumbling winos as the business owners lock their doors in relief. Then every bar and restaurant in the area fills to capacity because three hours worth of wine "tasting" just isn't enough. I know--I'm one of the winos. The Reno Wine Walk may not be the sophisticated event it was once meant to be, but it sure is a lot of fun! Show up to one of the Wine Walk merchants, give them $20 and show them your ID, you will get a map and wine glass, and you are now well on your way to public drunkenness. My one complaint about the event is that it keeps getting more and more expensive, but at the same time fewer businesses are participating. This leads to atrociously long lines and is really frustrating when your focus is not as strong as it could be and you're trying to figure out which businesses are participating and which aren't. Price: $20 for wine wristband + glass+ Sheet that you should try to hang on to because some places will not give you wine without it. The wine sucks but this is about quantity not quality. Plus it gets to the point where you are chugging nasty wine because you can't have wine in your glass on the actual riverwalk sidewalks. People are drunk and obnoxious on the sidewalks even with their empty glasses., I don't know why the cops are so strict with enforcing the no open alcoholic beverages outside. It might actually help people pace themselves better if they could stroll and sip instead of chugging and running to the next place. Anyways, Lots of women but a lot of men have figured out that this thing is popular with chicks. Plus, it's a great excuse to get drunk at 2 in the afternoon for cheap. I am not a fan of getting drunk in public but even I enjoyed myself. Tip: go to the art gallery first if you want a decorated wine glass. read more

For $20 you can walk to 20 different spots. Not the best quality wine but suitable enough for the price. Excellent people watching opportunities and a great way to explore the vendors of Downtown Reno who are making a place worth visiting again. Beware though, people get pretty hammered by the end of the walk. Depending on your POV, that could be a good thing! read more

The Riverwalk is a nice place to walk to, especially if the weather is nice, and it's located close to the Nevada Museum of Art. I did not get a chance to actually taste the wines during their monthly events but neverless, the walk to the Riverwalk has left me with some cool pictures. I will have to come back during the wine tasting time. I like how the city tried building these sitting areas and decorated everything on the river. If you can, try walking there at night - the lights on the trees make everything twice as pretty. read more

Lemme sum up: "A" for effort but not really worth the stroll. Whenever I have to worry about getting mugged, I tend to not like a place. That's the feel of some of the areas along Reno's riverwalk. Don't get me wrong, it's evident that the city is attempting to turn the place around by creating walkways along the Truckee through downtown. However, when you wish you were in a kayak on the Truckee instead of walking alongside it because it's safer, there's a problem. My friends and I started our stroll on the north side of the Truckee and walked westbound. The railings along the river are a grapish purple, with decorative pavers creating a walkway. We leaned over to admire the rush of the Truckee, as the runoff is pretty high. There were a few shops that I remember seeing but nothing that demanded I stop in and see what they had to offer. We crossed over a bridge after less than a quarter mile and proceeded to side step dog poop every few yards, as it seems the south side of the riverwalk is used for dog walking. When we got back to the Siena, we called it an experience. Reno's heart is in the right place, but this riverwalk needs help. Local businesses should try creating a fun atmosphere that embraces the riverwalk and not just something they happen to be near. Also, a police presence might be nice to tone down the random thieves that like to eye tourists. There's a lot of potential here and I hope Reno's riverwalk evolves over time to become something more enjoyable. read more

RENO WINE WALK. Reno is famous for the Original Reno Walk. My wife and I went on the Reno Wine Walk for the first time on 4-21-18. We got there kinda late, starts at 2pm, ends at 5pm. We got to a destination at 3pm and they said we are out of glasses but Reno envy puts it on and they should have glasses to purchase. There were an insane amount of people in downtown Reno. It gave me more anxiety than actually trying to find parking in downtown Reno. And the lines of people at each destination was more than overwhelming. For $20 per person for a sip of wine per destination up to five destinations, my wife and I can have a bottle of wine each for $5 per bottle. In my opinion, if you like to socialize, walk in crowds, stand in lines, and over pay for less than wine, faux wine, and very little wine then yea go ahead, have a ball. read more

While I had high hopes for the dine the district, my disappointment with this event could not be hidden. The website mentioned there were multiple businesses participating. In actuality there were 14. In the past there have been more then 20 and the prior one in May supposedly had 17. It appears as though I am not the only person that sees this is not getting better. Additionally we purchased our tickets online to save five dollars but still managed to be charged a $1.49 processing fee per ticket. Of the 14 participating businesses, many were serving dessert. While I don't mind dessert I had not expected so many. The worst part was many of the businesses were providing samples of food they didn't even have on their menu. How can I make an honest opinion of your establishment and make a decision if you are not providing me with your best offerings? I do not believe I will try this one again. read more

Wow...Tracy is awesome...She explained it perfectly. This is a wonderful event to socialize with people (and see everyone you really didnt want to see, but you have to say hi to and smile). Everyone is literally there...expecially if the weather is nice. The lines at most of the stores take a bit of time in the summer. If the weather is poor, you generally get a bit more wine, and don't have to wait as long. I will not be going during the summer months, but will continue to go back once the weather turns for the worst :) read more

I was really looking forward to this event as several friends had been in previous years and loved it. I have to say it was somewhat disappointing. I was told there were 20+ vendors last year, this year there were 14. In 4 hours and long lines we only made it to 5 places. The food was for the most part, so-so. For ~$20 this event wasn't bad since you get to try (emphasis on the word try) food from a bunch of different restaurants in downtown Reno. Some of the restaurants were well organized while other ones could have been a lot more efficient to preclude a long line of people. Thai Corner for example had a huge line which detracted people. Did they do this on purpose (to look popular) or just did not know how to efficiently serve a small amount of Thai food and stamp your piece of paper? Either way, what I learned is that the real purpose of this event is to get a good walk around town and experience different food with your friends--not to really get a genuine experience at any of the participating eateries. I might do it again in the future as long as the price stays at $20. I heard that it was way better in the past, but as an outsider it wasn't bad because it was pretty much a bar crawl with some of my new friends. read more

Did the wine walk and had some of the worst wine ever. Cheap,gross and grosser (is that even a word?). I asked for a red wine and it was cold. Seriously! The merchants are serving the cheapest wine possible. I thought maybe I would get something decent at the wine bar but that was crappy too. I was really disappointed in this event. It's basically people looking to get drunk off crappy wine. Not for people who like to have good wine. The only thing good out of it was the cute wine glass. read more

I love the wine walk and everyone I have ever taken to the wine walk has had a great time. We pace ourselves as to not get too drunk, but there are others that do not. So, yes, you will find some drunken stupid people...but if you can't deal with that and think that this is a hoity toity "wine tasting"...then take a trip to Napa and do your "tasting" there. This is a fun and silly event always for a good cause. Don't take it too seriously or you won't have fun. read more

So disappointed!! I have done this before and it was awesome. Boy not today. Only 12 places for $25. The food was pretty much all lame!! Granite street was like the worst! I will never do this again. They usually have a theme (Ugly sweaters, St. Patrick, etc.) and the $20 bracelet goes to charity. So much fun. The shops are mostly very friendly and 50% of the wine is great! I always ask for them just to put a little in as most will almost fill your glass and you will not be able to get through most of the shops. The police walk along the route to make sure everyone is safe. They are very nice, One actually helped me walk to the ending location when I was very drunk and helped me navigate the sidewalk dangers. I Highly suggest eating a big meal before starting and ending at the Thai Corner. The waitresses will provide lots of water for wine walkers to help you sober up. You get to keep the decorated glasses. You actually meet a lot of people and find interesting shops that you would never go into otherwise. People are nice and many are just happy and friendly. What a great, creative way to raise money for charity and let people know what your business does. read more
