Three strikes against this place. The bad health department report is a serious initial concern. No surprise though as this restaurant had other significant deficiencies that make it not good for the customer. Went in on a cold day and it was absolutely freezing, or at least felt that way. One other customer was dining bundled up in a winter coat. Ridiculous. They must be trying to save money to not run the heat. Sooooo cheap and a miserable way to treat customers. They also are cheap using cheap dark meat chicken thigh in most chicken dishes like sesame chicken. The experience sucked, and I did not want any more bad surprises, so I left and went somewhere else. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, you may want to look somewhere else. Pass. Maybe if enough of these poor quality restaurants in this area run themselves out of business, something better can come later. read more

This is quite a little gem tucked away on Russell Avenue in White Rock. The restaurant itself is plain and basic; I think the red checkered table covering deterred my husband and I from trying it out earlier since we frequently walked by the restaurant. We normally drive out to Richmond to have Chinese food; we were both pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meal. We had a couple of the warm appetizers and a Seafood with silken tofu Hot Pot. The appys were fine; the hot pot was delicious with a nice variety of seafood including fish slices, squid and prawns. The silken tofu was lightly deep fried giving it a nice textured skin, the tofu remained silky and tasty. Best of all, it came to the table piping hot. The seasoning was perfect and not overly salty as most Chinese restaurants. The service was friendly and attentive; we spoke to the owner briefly; she is very proud of her little eatery. We plan to return soon to try the lamb dish with cumin the next table obviously enjoyed and other traditional Shanghainese dishes! read more

It was the first time , and also the last time we will order food from this restaurant. And these are the reasons : 1. The food is totally tasteless, 2. It was not fresh at all, left a bad taste in our mouths, 3. The portions are very small, you may think they are for a dog, 4. There were no napkins, cutleries or any spices or sauce included, 5. The server was totally unpleasant , and looked as it did not want to be there. 6. It is a shame that a restaurant like that are open to the public. We are very disappointed , and will follow up with the restaurant too, as by the time we got home with the food the restaurant was close. The best Chinese food in the lower mainland hands down. I have tried it all, I have tried every other popular Chinese restaurant in White Rock and South Surrey but Dining Wok Shanghai cannot be beat. I have been eating and my family has been eating here since I was a child and I am in my mid twenties. The crispy vegetable chow mein? To die for. The crispy ginger beef? Unbelievable. The lemon chicken? Best I've ever had. As long as they're around I will never be going anywhere else for delicious Chinese food. read more

Please note that this is one of our favorite restaurants...We dine there at least once a week.. We eat at many different ethnic restaurants and this one tops the list. Everything is always freshly prepared, seasoned beautifully and is scrum-delicious. And the service is so very friendly, cheerful and quick. Try the Almond Chicken or the Pastry with Shrimp, I have never tasted the latter at any other Chinese restaurant. It consists of fried rice cakes which sizzle when sauce is poured over. Not sure what the deal is with these Chinese restos in White Rock; I had just left Silver Dragon earlier for takeout and curious as I turned the corner, voila, another one so close, after all, this isn't Chinatown or Richmond lol. But when I walked in, though it's a bit smaller and cozier than SD, it was empty on a Thurs nite, and owner didn't really seem to care: think she was reading a paper, and didn't even say hi, and when I asked for a takeout menu, she just rudely pointed 'over there'. Maybe a bit harsh on the rating, but as it suggests, "i've experienced better'. And any business that uses the website weebly pretty well sums it all. read more

They've got 2 menus,one for authentic chinese and one for Canadians. I havent tried the one for Canadians,but their chinese dishes are exceptionally good. Compare to Don restaurant, this little shanghai restaurant is easier to access with free off street parking. read more

I have never been treated so poorly in a restaurant. As a regular customer you would imagine the food to be good however I ordered General Chicken and it was extremely salty to the point I could not eat it. I told the lady politely that I could not eat anymore as I found it way too salty. They did not bring me a replacement so I assumed I would not pay. When I went to pay they included it in the bill so I questioned it. I was HORRIFIED that they said it tasted perfectly fine and they went on to tell me they ALL tried my dinner and thought it was fine. I disagreed and said in all fairness as the customer I disagree as I was the one eating it. I cannot believe they all tasted my dinner and did not offer to either replace it or deduct from my bill. Then they began all talking in Chinese and everyone was looking as though I did something wrong. They forced me to pay and yelled that I was stupid as I left the restaurant, Needless to say you may the food is good until you try to complain which I believe I had the right to say since I was paying. I will never recommend this place to anyone I believe people should know even after eating there many times. People can be very nasty and rude. read more
