We stopped by to give our pup some nice playtime and relaxation and were greeted with the sight of families enjoying the play structure, beautiful cave and rock formations cliffside, various coastal flora and green grass. It is called dinosaur caves park due to the caves and some dinosaur sculptures located in the play area. Apparently there use to be a big dinosaur centerfold but that was taken away. A great walk and area to coast for a bit (pun intended) but bring your own shade. read more

Beautiful park that sits up on a bluff offering expansive ocean views, picnic areas, playground for kids and plenty of parking. We visited on a beautiful summer day and it was perfect. Park was very busy with families having a great time. In the 1940's, a large metal dinosaur was built here to attract travelers from the highway to a souvenir and tackle shop. Visitors would pay .25 to walk through the dinosaur down to the sea cave. It did not last long to the public complaining as the dinosaur was an eye sore. After many years of this space deteriorating, the city of Pismo Beach bought the land and in 2003, this park opened. If you walk down to the bluffs edge, you will be able to see one of the sea caves. My family and I saw this park while driving to Solvang a few weeks ago and knew we had to check it out on our way home! Dinosaur Caves Park is just gorgeous! A lovely neighborhood park with amazing views of the ocean! The park was clean and well maintained - they offered bathrooms as well! Swings, slides, spiny rides - you name it. Our daughter had a blast! After our daughter enjoyed the park, we walked around the trails and took so photos of the flowers and ocean views. Why is it called Dinosaur Caves Park? Apparently per the information area, there used to be a massive dinosaur statue that was eventually taken away - caves? I did see a cave or 2 when we were checking out the ocean views. Overall, I think Dinosaur Caves Park is a great place to get out and stretch your legs - it's especially nice to let the kiddos get some energy out before heading back to your roadtrip! read more

This beauty is located in the Shell Beach area, adjacent to 'Margo Dodd Park' where you can admire the caves better, (even more if you bring your binoculars). Plenty of parking. There's a kid's playground, walking trails, benches, lots of grassy areas with flowers, and stunning ocean views. Such a nice, family friendly atmosphere with a relaxing vibe. My dog had a good, happy walk here. The entire park is very clean and nicely taken cared of (but the sea smell was a bit strong for my sensitive nose). I was happy to see a lovely memorial bench area for 'Kristin Smart' as I followed her case since day one. It is a peaceful place to remember her as she loved the beach. Overall, it has always been a nice, relaxing time here and will visit every time we're in town. read more

Dinosaur Caves Park is a great place to visit and enjoy the views and walking trails. Being a handicap is hard but with the help of a Rollator I was able to walk around the trail and admire the view of the cliff and beautiful flowers and succulents. This park is gorgeous. So many beautiful purple flowers. Gorgeous views. We didn't know how to get down to the beach. We ended up getting back in the car and parking down the street by the hotel. There's stairs by the gazebo to the far left of the park. The stairs are a bit much but the view in the private beach and little cave is worth it! Bring a picnic and stay. That's what I wish we did. Stopped here really quick after work to sight see and walk around. This park is NICE! Their public restrooms are so clean and look new! I walked around a bit enjoying the plants and view of the ocean. I walked over to the edge of the bluff and got a great view of the ocean and sea life. It's a great place to do a small walk around, stretch and enjoy the view and breeze of the ocean. Dog friendly as well! read more

This is tough. It's visually beautiful 5/5 stars. You can hear the highway but not too bad. Great place for kids to run around but also a nice place for adults to take in the views and walk a bit. But damn... the smell (-10/5) of the birds? Rotting fish in the ocean? Manure? It made me gag a bit. I was hoping to enjoy a light picnic lunch. Our most favorite park on the central coast! This place has a little bit of everything for everyone, a little bit more for the little ones, which is the main reason we keep coming back. Our bub loves it here. The kids playground has a great variety of things for small kids to big kids. Even tho there's almost no shade around, Pismo Beach tends to be a little cooler than the rest of the Central Coast, so it's almost always cool to cold here. On one side, you have the highway and the view of the rolling hills, on the other side you have the ocean/rocks/caves that hundreds of ducks, pelicans, and seagulls call home. The smell can get a bit strong from the sea water and the birds, but it's all worth it once you get used to it. You can easily take a nice, decent walk along the cliff to take in the great view of the ocean, or bring a picnic basket and pick one of the picnic tables around the park. If tables are too "formal", there's a huge open area with nice, healthy grass for you to spread that blanket picnic and enjoy the beautiful view and weather. They often have events here so check the city website for frequent updates. Highly recommend even just for a quick stop by. You wont regret it ;) read more

The park is wonderful for children, has absolutely everything you could want and need to keep young ones entertained. Whenever I come on a trip in this area I stop by this park. It's a location you do not want to miss if you have a family or kids that you're watching! **LOCAL GEM** This is a beautiful little local park overlooking the coastal bluffs. There is a playground for kids, restrooms and best of all, free parking is usually pretty easy as the open gravel spots extend down Cliff Ave. There is plenty of lawn area to bring a blanket, sunbathe or play with your dog, as well as several benches along the oceanfront walking path. It's always pretty clean and well-maintained, and just a lovely spot to take in a sunny afternoon or enjoy a picnic. read more

Dinosaur Cave Park is a beautiful place for a stroll with or without kids. It's manicured with lovely flowers and plantations around the walking pathway with scenic views of the beach and ocean. There is picnic table for those who like to snack while there. For kids, there are a lot of slides, swings, dinosaur and seal/sea lion play statue for kids to climb on, dinosaur eggs for kids to hide in, and ring around the rosie type turning seating bowl. This is one of the best parks in the entire area. There is a parking lot to park in. The playground is amazing. There is so much to play with and climb on at this park. There are swings and toddler swings. There are a couple of fun spinning toys to play on. There is soft padding underneath some of the playground and wood chips under some parts of the playground. There are plenty of picnic tables. Some of the tables are under a shade. There are plenty of bathrooms at Dinosaur Caves Park. The bathrooms were clean when I was there. The view of the ocean is fantastic. There are a ton of beautiful flowers at this park. There is a huge grassy area to play on. There is a paved walkway which goes through the park. So glad I stopped by here! This was recommended to me by my sister that lives in Santa Barbara and frequently goes to Fresno! This is one of her favorite lunch date spots for a little picnic or takeout food! I came here on a weekday during a trip to Pismo Beach in late April, and it was a delight! Like a mini super bloom! Flowers in abundance, and many varieties. This is at a nearby distance from the play area so you can have a calm experience reading a book on a bench between the flowers and the beach. Parking was easy to find but I can see it harder to find if there were more people on the weekend. If you're in Pismo Beach and need a nice playground with some of the most unique playground equipment. I would definitely add this stop on your list. My kids had so much fun sitting on the dinosaur and dinosaur eggs. They also enjoyed all the spinning wheels and dimes and the double person swing along with the multiple slides. Most importantly, you're right near the ocean. The restrooms were very clean too. There's also, places to sit and picnic so bring your lunch and enjoy the rays with your family. read more

Fun park by the coast with lovely views. In terms of the playground it has all the standard structures. While it is dinosaur themed, it didn't have a LOT of dinosaur stuff. The highlight for the kids was the large dinosaur eggs that they could hide into. Other than that there were a few relatively small dinosaur statues. Another downside is that it is completely unshaded. There are bathrooms right next to the playground. Easy parking. I enjoyed that there was a very short path to the shore with pretty epic views of the coastal bluffs. Lots of different birds flying around. (No beach access, as the cliffs are pretty high!). Kids really likes the rope structures and hiding out inside the dinosaur eggs. Lots of open grass space, easy trail along the cliff with benches along the way so you can enjoy the ocean. The park is great for families and just anyone looking for a gorgeous scenic view. I hands down believe that this location has the best view on all of California's coastline. You get completely mesmerized by the lush hills to one side and the beach and ocean to another. It's absolutely gorgeous and a great stop to stroll around. Totally recommend this as a place for your kids to blow off steam if you are visiting SLO - there was a very cute playground with a bit of a dino theme that we visited a couple times so kids could get some active time during their vacation - there's also plenty of grassy areas for romping about and a well maintained trail that has great views cliffside.
