I was driving east from Mount Rushmore when I saw the sign for this and did a complete u-turn to stop in because duh, I wanted to be a paleontologist until I was 15 in careers class and learned how much they only make unless they make discoveries. But I still speak fluent fossils and dinosaurs sooooo I had to see everything. There's a cool mirror maze and mini golf that are included in the tickets, and they have one of the coolest gift shops I've ever seen. 3-D Dino post cards? Yeah; those happened. Very disappointing. $28 for 2 adults and $9 for our 5yr old. Hardly any fossils and lots of Styrofoam covered dinosaurs. At least you can see what the animals looked like. Mirror maze was ok, putt putt golf was pretty non existent and over flowed with people trying to make the trip inside worth it. If it was a lot cheaper, it would be worth taking little kids to as it is short enough to hold their attention. But for the money spent, we might have well gone over to the reptile gardens instead. Much better bang for you buck. I also think the free dinosaur park would be a good alternative. If it was priced better, And the golf area updated, I would give 4 stars. read more

I was hesitant to visit this museum based on the reviews, but I'm happy I stopped by. Now, if you are going to compare this place to the neighboring museum, yes it's going to be much much smaller and definitely not as many things to do compared to the other, but can you compare it with museum built in 1937 and this one built in 2014. The only thing I thought was weird is that there is no pricing for admissions, and when you enter they just ask how many tickets, which to me means they charge whatever they want. One thing that is weird is they have a mirror maze. I don't think it has anything to do with dinosaurs, but it was fun to go through. Just be careful, no running and if you break the glass it's $400 for each glass replacement, ouch! It looks like they are doing renovations, so I'm curious to see what improvements they have. They have a small movie room that is air conditioned and since it's not crowded, plenty of space to walk around and take photos. Overall, it's a nice place to take your time and check out and learn about some dinosaurs. read more

We hoped it would've been better than some reviews but unfortunately it wasn't. A complete waste of time and money. Our 5 year old was excited to do the "dinosaur dig". Sand box with some sandy rock covering a few faux bones. We played some mini golf in a very unkept amateur mini golf course. We were there for only 45 min. This museum is a must stop if you or your child is interested in seeing what dinosaurs may have looked like with when they were alive. Our tour guide, John, gave us a very thorough and passionate tour and can answer literally any question you have. He even gave a tailored tour for me (a non dinosaur enthusiast) and showed me at my request, all the cute dinosaurs, and split it with my partner (dinosaur enthusiast) and showed him all the dinosaurs he loved. John can absolutely hold a conversation about dinosaurs and really fits the tour to what you're interested in. I highly recommend and we will absolutely be back! read more

What a neat experience, from the giant T Rex in front of the building (the girls at the register if they aren't too busy will come out and take your picture in front of it!) to the amazing exhibits inside. My husband and I enjoyed the museum and want to take our grandkids through. The Mirror Maze was fun and a novelty. The Miniature Golf Course wasn't quite open yet but would be fun, too! Great dinosaurs--we were surprised at the wide variety and of displays from eggs to death masks in addition to all the dinosaurs. The aquatic video on dinosaurs added a lot to the experience! The building is huge and not yet insulated or air conditioned, so consider the outside temperature before visiting -- 70-85 degrees would be the best. read more

This was okay. Mostly just really expensive for what you get. It's an uninsulated barn, so expect some heat. There are several large life size replicas of dinosaurs as well as a handful of skeletons. If you have a kid who loves dinosaurs it is a neat treat. And the mirror maze is fun, probably my favorite part. There is alittle section at the end with "fossils" for the kids to expose, which is fun. Overall, I have nothing against small places. Especially ones that are clean and take pride in their offering. It is just hard to recommend this place, when for my family of 8, we spent $5 more and got a season pass to the reptile gardens next door, which are much nicer. read more

The stuff girl picked up on our seven years old son enthusiasm and she was lovely to him and us as we chatted about things. I have made many trips thrue South Dakota and finally in my over 20 years of travel we finally stoped at this Dinosaur Museum. If you love Dinosaurs then this would be a place to go to see how big they really were. They did have a dig site and a mini golf and maze tunnel that our kid loved. I have to say we loved this place and our boy did too. Great for the whole family! This is great for kids and adults alike. We will return. read more

It was just okay. I probably wouldn't go back but definitely didn't regret going there. We went there to pass some time while we were just out doing stuff. We spent maybe 30 minutes there but we didn't do the mini golf. It seems kind of short and nothing really seamed authentic. It wasn't air conditioned. I was hoping to find some cute novelty in the gift shop but that was also semi underwhelming. If you kids like dinosaurs I highly recommend it. They have a really cute little dog area at the end where you can uncover fossils and mine golf which is awesome. If you're going to go to a cool museum I would probably pass it up. read more

This is a privately owned museum that had an eclectic assortment of displays. There were the expected dinosaurs, some heads and some completely to scale. There was also some plaster face molds of celebrities, a mirror maze funhouse, an 8 hole putt-putt and two indoor pits for kiddos to dig for bones. It was enjoyable for everyone. If you or your kid loves dinosaurs this is a decent spot. It's a little small for the price but the dinosaurs are well done. The Dinosaur "Movie Theater" was sort of goofy in that it was a BBC documentary playing on a big screen tv and I had to find the remote control to start the DVD. Once again if you or you or your kid are really into dinos it is fun but if you're just looking for a diversion you might try the reptile gardens next door. read more

If you have a dinosaur enthusiast in your family, this place is a must-see. The dinosaur exhibits are actually to scale, so you get a true sense of the size of these creatures. The descriptions of each are easy for lesser enthusiasts (ie, parents) to read, and each dinosaur name comes with a pronunciation guide. My kids loved this place, and we loved reading the names of the dinosaurs to them. Not everything is a dinosaur. There was an incredible skull of a sabertooth, and the description was awesome. My favorite part was the concluding line - "no animal can go very far after being disemboweled." My kids laughed about this for hours after we left. To our delight, this place is very rustic, so it's pretty near impossible for excited kids to ruin anything. They can run everywhere and not destroy anything. There are iron bars around the exhibits, but you can still get pretty close. It can get dusty in the wind, so if you have allergies, bring a Claritin. There is a place for the kids to dig for fossils, and a mini house within the museum where a movie about dinosaurs plays continuously. The movie has great graphics and pretends to follow a family of dinosaurs growing up over 70 years. A diplodicus lays 100 eggs, but 7 years later only 2 survive long enough to join the herd. They contend with forest fires, drought, and predators. It's a great film for those less interested in the models. For those less interested in dinosaurs, there is a mirror maze and putt putt. We had a good mix of dinosaur folks in our group, and we spent about two hours here. It was a great visit and we will surely return. I hope as this place grows and develops, they think about having birthday party packages. I can imagine dinosaurs, pizza, and putt putt as the perfect party for ages 6-10. read more

Searched on the website for admission prices but nothing was listed and I mistakenly assumed it meant free/cheap. This was a pricey stop for what you get. The museum is inside so I was relieved at the though of getting out of the heat for a bit but, alas, the building is not air conditioned. The mirror maze is short but neat. The movie 'theater' is air conditioned, and little room thrown together with a big tv, stand up air conditioning unit, and a sliding patio door. We were excited to have mini golf with our admission but that was perhaps the most disappointing part. Rather than being done up in a cool dino theme the course is completely bare. It is even hard to tell in some places where one hole begins. If you are going to make this stop I suggest to do it before Reptile Gardens so that maybe it won't look as lackluster. read more

Took my ten year old and two year old there because we were at reptile gardens and figured why not make it our next stop and boy was it a blast! My ten year old loved the mirror maze and movie while my two year old loved the dig pit. I got to enjoy them both so excited about the dinosaurs and the other super neat things, the people were super friendly and it was an overall great experience! I promised the kids that we will be making more trips up there since neither really wanted to leave it was so reasonably priced it was so worth it! Clean and friendly atmosphere. Maze in the back was fun. However $57.00 for 6 of us seemed a bit extreme. The exhibits were good but the whole place and experience was about 20 minutes worth so I feel 30 would have been a fair price. read more

To put it short, it's not worth the price and time being spent to see the exhibits which end in about 15-20 minutes. Also, there is a mirror maze and mini golf course included at the end which does not make much sense to me in a dinosaur museum. read more
