Had my second bad experience there tonight. First one was they refused to sell me something for the price marked on the bottle. They didn't disagree. That was the marked price, but said it was a mistake and it's illegal to sell alcohol below wholesale price in Massachusetts. I looked it up later, it's not true. Today I got into a stupid beef with one of the people working there who was being a jerk. And I *never* get into beefs with people. He suggested I didn't have to shop there if don't want to, I told him it was a damn fine idea, probably the best idea he's had in quite a while and walked out. I will not be returning. read more

First time in this location, and while I was only purchasing hard cider I did a quick look through the store to see what they had. Good selection and very nice employees keeping it organized and asking everyone if they needed any help. It was a couple of days before Christmas and busy at lunchtime, but the line moved quickly and the woman at the register was really nice. Nice selection at this location! The staff here have also been friendly and helpful in the past. We've gone here to get a variety of alcohol from wines, mead, craft beer, hard seltzers, spirits and more. They also have some fun tastings of pairings to go with the drinks too from time to time! We've been able to try several different brands and local varieties from their inventory. It's always a treat to stop in while doing an errand at one of the other establishments in the plaza nearby too. read more

Been going here for a while and they have been fantastic, but sad to see they are now price gauging my favorite drink because it is "tough to get." They went from a 20ish percent park up to a 150% mark up. Sad to see them fall under the unethical category. You'd think we would have learned our lesson of price gauging after the pandemic. Thanks for your response Leah, except there was no increase on what you paid.. Burke has had level prices over the past year. This is solely an increase for the customer.. Aka price gauging.. Placed an order for a product online. No response for 6 days and then it was canceled. No human interaction just straight up canceled. After trying to order the same product that's still on their website 8 times, I finally got a phone call saying the item is sold out. Well maybe if someone acted on my order initially (6 days earlier) it may have been in stock. Store is run poorly and they conveniently process orders when they want to. read more

A solid liquor store, with a decent collection. Unfortunately, their intrusive and somewhat rude practices dampen my enthusiasm for this business. For a while, I actually stopped going there, following an incident in which my mom, sister, and boyfriend were walking around and stopped there to get wine. My sister (age 23) and I (age 26) decided to stay outside to chat, while my mom and boyfriend went inside. Within 2-3 minutes, one staff member came outside and told us that we "needed" to go inside and show our IDs. Notably, this wasn't done in a courteous or professional manner. It felt extremely rude and demeaning. Of course, it's pretty standard to have all members of a party show their IDs, but to make people go inside seems a bit intrusive... and weird. So, the lesson is that if you're going to Dion's, be careful having someone wait in the car or wait outside. Apparently, you ALL need to go inside. To be fair, their selection is quite good and they carry wine and beer that I've had trouble finding at other places. Some of their wine bottles are quite dusty though. read more

I used to shop elsewhere but over the last couple months they have won me over especially the girl with the glasses. No matter what kind of day I'm having she can always make me (and everyone in the store ) smile and laugh. Uneven, as far as selection. I've been here when the place has had those specialized craft beers from out west, but two days later they're gone. Kind of tough to navigate this store - it's confusing and not well laid out. The standard brands are always there, and reasonably priced. Best thing about Dion's, though, is the service. I've always had a good experience here! They went out of their way to order items for me and called me when they arrived. I was able to find interesting distilled spirits to use as gifts for discerning friends. I'm not sure about dusty bottles but most wine cellars I've been in have dust on the bottles and it never effects the quality of the wine inside, so not sure why that's an issue, in general I find the store clean and well stocked. As for complaints about requesting ID from all parties in their property, as a former bartender ( a long time ago, in another state) it seems to me that they are trying to protect their license by following the rules most likely imposed by the Commonwealth of MA, perhaps were popped for this previously and are extra careful so they can keep their doors open. read more

I went to the store for a wine, for my husband, when I went to pay they asked for my ID, it was from the Dominican Republic, and they asked me about my passport, it was obvious that it was in my house, I was not going to carry my passport everywhere, my ID, says the same as the passport obviously, well in the end they did not sell me the wine !! Great selection and prices. Customer service goes above and beyond what other liquor stores would do. Their staff is extremely knowledge and friendly. Especially Joe: he knows everything. Trying to find that rare gem of a beer, he knows it. If he doesn't have it, he'll get it ordered for you and not charge you crazy prices. Just the way real companies should do business. alright, lets get down to business 4 stars and for the simple reason of them accommodating my lushy needs. i have been looking for wexfords cream ale for about 3 years now. granted not too hard, but if i go into a packi, which isnt all too often, i ask and i hear 'no' in response. well d & l, which by the way just renovated into a huge space now, asked me if they could order it for me. hey, this isnt rocket science here, its business and apparently they read the book in general business 101, give the customer something they want to buy. praise the yeast gods above. now ive had this beer at sunset, but to be honest, i dont think it was right cause it didnt have the nitro head like a Guinness has, so im looking forward to the real deal. now they also have a wine club and a multitude of other brews and spirits for purchase, i couldnt tell you them all, but again, the size of this place would warrant quite a variety for you you if you wanted to change it up a bit. also again, if you dont see it, they will order it. not yungling thou, cant get that round here. deduct one star cause its still $$$ for product, 10 bucks for a 6er of sierra nevada??? 9.50 for 4 cans of wexford, but its in the fridge waiting for me... read more

Amazing selection! So amazing that we were able to buy 2 bottles of 120 Minute (Dogfish Head)! The employees are super friendly and really helpful with any questions we had. We were also looking for another beer that we had trouble getting our hands on, and they said they would be happy to order it for us. If I buy any more Miller Lt here, I'm pretty sure the staff will stage an intervention. Best place to buy cheap, crappy beer in the area. You'll never pay more than $20.99 for a 30-pack of Miller Lt, Coors Lt, or Bud Lt. Other beer and spirits are pricier than the average liquor store, but that doesn't effect this cheap bastard. Oh, and if you're a lady buying a suitcase full of beer, the guys behind the counter will insist on bringing it out to your car for you. A little bit of chivalry goes a looooong way. read more

I have stopped by this liquor store after work multiple times and never had any problems...until today, when they rejected my completely valid out-of-state license. The license was not even scanned, just looked at, and while I understand the need for caution I am SHOCKED that I was REFUSED SERVICE WITH MY VALID ID. Invest in a scanner, people. Even though this is the most convenient store for me, close to home and work, I will be driving out of my way to go somewhere else from now on. I am engaged; I have two master's degrees. Our daughter recently got married and we hired them to provide the beer, wine, and champagne. Rick was so helpful, made fantastic recommendations, and was pretty much spot on on what and how much we should order, all within our budget. Until today, I thought that I had to venture back to NY every time I wanted to buy a Julius Echter Hefe-Weisen. I looked in Gordons, at Marty's and even took a pilgrimage to the mecca, a.k.a. Martignetti's, but had no luck. Then I needed to pick up a bottle of wine to pair with some seafood on the way home from Russo's. Enter Julius, right behind the bargain wine for .64¢ cheaper than his New York counterpart. (I am now an un-gainfully employed college graduate, every cent counts!) There are plenty of drawbacks to living in Waltham. The isolation, the weirdness and the 70 bus are just a few. But somehow we have several liquor stores with a very well-curated selection of wine. The signage is a bit spotty, although a very friendly employee asked if I needed help. To her credit, I was feelin' a loner. D&L is definitely going to help me save my T taps next time I feel like I need to gallivant off to Brighton to get quality wine and beer. read more

D & L is the best liquor store I've ever been to. Who knew someone could actually feel dedicated and loyal to a liquor store! The first time I came upon the D&L liquor store staff was at Cronin's landing when they did a wine tasting of about 15-20 wines in addition to catering food from the Chateu restaurant. It was amazing! I had never heard of any Liquor store doing such a thing. The staff was friendly, very knowledgeable and the wines were very well priced. Prices is something that has remained consistent at D&L. After every purchase, I always feel as though I've gotten a great deal. Some of the things that really makes them stand out to me are all the events they put on. They always have wine dinners they are putting together. I've been to quite a few of them now and I have nothing negative to say. The food, wine and atmosphere is always great and fun! Not to mention usually pretty well-priced for the quality of food and wines they prepare. In addition, to the wine dinners they also have punch card where you have the choice of a gift certificate to restaurants or for something in the store. (not quite sure what the amount is but very reasonable). Actually, this year for every 4 cards you filled out you were able to participate in a raffle to win a trip to the vineyard in CA! My husband and I love Dion's! The store is clean, the selection is awesome, and the staff is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. In terms of their selections, they have a wide variety of beers, wines, and liquors, and they're all fairly priced. We love craft beers and what's great about Dion's is that they have a wide selection that is new every week or so. I have tried so many new beers ever since I moved to the area and started going to Dion's. They do, of course, have the classics in terms of beer, wines, and liquors, too. Another plus is that the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable - they make great recommendations if you come in and don't have a specific beer/wine/liquor that you're looking for. I tend to just go in with a style of beer in mind and know that the staff will help me narrow it down. I have been helped by them a countless number of times. These people know what they're talking about, have tried the beer themselves, and are happy to help you while you peruse. Simply put, Dion's is an awesome store with a great staff. read more

Great beer selection including 4 different kinds of gluten free beer. They have 3 types of New Planet including Raspberry, which is a nice change from Redbridge. The prices are reasonable compared to other local liquor stores and the workers are always friendly and helpful when you can't find what you're looking for. Don't be confused...this location is across the street from the Shaw's plaza on River street in Waltham. About 2 years ago, they expanded the smaller shop by purchasing a vacant building next door. D&L now has a premier selection of wines and liquors and I'm always happy with my experiences. The staff is extremely friendly and unpretentious about discussing wines. Been going to Dion's for over 20 years - great prices, selections,and service!

Wish I could give zero stars. I was in the parking lot cleaning out some liquid that had spilled in my car when some man who was out smoking a cigarette told me to clean up the mess I had made on the parking lot cement. I told him the napkins I had left were biodegradable. He had nothing to say but demanded that I throw them away. Soon after I was wondering if maybe he was targeting me because I looked like a minority. kind of disappointing because a friend of mine worked here recently and said she quit because the manager was extremely rude. I thought Dions was a more sophisticated establishment, I've gone here for years and it's kind of weird that someone who wasn't a cop would ask me to pick up something that wouldn't exist in a few days. But I guess what can you expect from a liquor store right? bottom of the barrel service. Not like one less customer will make a difference in sales, I'm sure a bunch of alcoholics will keep this place open. read more

I love Dion's! If I want a great wine to check, they provide perfect recommendations based on what I like. But my favorite thing they do is provide suggestions for liquor/wine I need for cooking. I can go in there and say I'm making mint cupcakes, and they'll show me an inexpensive, perfect Creme de Menthe. I've gone in asking for a white wine, whiskey, etc., all to use with cooking, and I end up leaving with something that is low in price but that works perfectly in the recipe.
