Then times changed and it.....wasn't so nice. Times have changed again in a sense and now it is nice again. Never thought I'd see a skate park section, multiple baseball fields, tennis courts (just tried thos for the first time ever), soccer areas, playground space, and more. Parking can be a bit of a question mark sometimes so look around closely. Give Nicholl Park a shot and enjoy the fresh air and open space.

You probably lost all your money there or just got kicked out - they don't tolerate any nonsense whatsoever - oh well you learned your lesson and good thing you have your skateboard in the back trunk. The trash was only up front and the toilet was a space age looking thing. Looked like a flying saucer. How cool is that? They call them the Portland Loo. This little park is as good as it gets. Incredible design - somebody did a great job squeezing it in. Half of it opens up to a parking lot so there isn't this claustrophobia inducing feeling when your there. Some good lighting even at night - which is great as the sun sets early now. Grab your skateboard and come here - you'll be as happy as my cat with his beach side crunch party mix treats.

It's beautiful and people are pretty respectful of distance. I've run here (very few times), walked here (many times) and I just feel calm. There's a lot of bird crap on the ground, so you have to be mindful of where you step, but there was so much history here and I still stop to read the kiosks. I remember visiting with my sister here a few years ago and she loved it. And like me (turned three out here), a lifelong Richmond resident and she had never heard of this place. My mom probably hadn't heard of it, because she would take us to SF or Oakland for events, and this place was in our backyard. The only gripe for me is that it is soooo far away from the city, city. But that's just me. I wish it were easier to access. But that's a "rich person's problem" and really not a reason to lose stars. What draws me to this place is that I've walked in a lot of places and the experience is nothing like this. I come away from my walks feeling rather soothed and much calmer for having been there. The main thing that I have to be careful of is walking too far and having to lumber back over a longer distance than expected. Again, a "rich person's problem" that says more about me than about this space. I'm just glad that it's here and that we can enjoy it!

It…read morecan be hard at times to find a parking spot but shouldn't be too difficult to park on a side street if needed. There are several parts to this park. One is a flat area with a play scape and a cement slide. There's actually a tunnel nearby that goes under the road and crosses over to the rose garden, which is really cool. The cement slide is a must see for anyone with kids and even if you're an adventurous adult. There are plenty of cardboard boxes around for you to try it out. When I first heard about the cement slide, I didn't think it would be very fun, (cement and sliding didn't go together in my mind) but it is great! Then just a little bit south, above that play scape area, there's a baseball field. So many different people come here to meet. Some people for picnics, some people play soccer, some people play softball, some people bring their dogs. And then inside the woods behind the park, there are a picnic benches. I have a friend who had her wedding reception there. You can reserve them with the city. And then behind the picnic area, there's a hike and if you're very adventurous, there is a waterfall hidden, but it's not easy to find if you don't know about it. I highly recommend this park. During the winter, the baseball field is blocked off with Fence to protect the grass but other parts of the park are accessible.

I love that they allowed for artists to come and adorn the walls and overpass posts with color, culture and names of visitors past. There were a wide range of ages skating, biking, watching. Parents sat with their chairs outside of the complex looking on. There was even a gentleman whom sat by the entrance whom had set up a table and was streaming music. Everyone was very aware of their surroundings and there seemed to be this unspoken understanding of skatepark etiquette everyone was abiding by. It was a mixture of skateboarders and BMX enthusiasts. My 14 year old son has gotten really into skateboarding. It's what he got into during quarantine and this whole Covid thing. It was a way for him to incorporate some physical activity and something to concentrate on and hone in his skills with. I can tell he feels good and feels like he's in shape. He is mindful of what he eats on a daily and ensures he is drinking plenty of water. Not bad for a 14 year old huh? I think what has become a true passion has also helped him in the area of time management. Since he homeschooled for the 18 months or whatever it was he knew he has a set time frame to get school and school work done so that he could get his time in daily to skateboard and then still get online and play a few rounds on his gaming console. I really like how he evens out his time and prioritizes the way he does. I know some adults that cant get a hold of their time and here is this 14 year old in the middle of a pandemic crushing it. He continues to amaze me that one. Anyway, this skatepark. Since my son is passionate about skateboarding I've told him we should make an effort to seek out new parks for him. I sit and read or scroll through my phone and he does what he does and admires other people and their talents. It allows for him to see what he needs to work on and what he wants to accomplish. Every City needs these. They need a place for kids and adults to be able to do something positive and do what they love. There was no charge for this place. Parking is a little daunting as it IS SF but when you are in a City like SF you are aware of the "walking culture"..lol! We parked a couple blocks away. Place is clean and I assume since it is fenced in there is a closing time and someone comes and locks it so the park doesn't become a homeless encampment.
