We came here on one of the hottest days in July 2024. It was actually cooler in Richmond than in the East Bay. I liked that there was nice parking in the park, clean, updated restrooms, and some picnic tables, although they were not covered. I like that there were many trails and at least the ones we went on were easy. There were a lot of dogs (most on leashes) and I didn't notice dog poop so I'm going to assume the owners were being responsible. We went all the way to the pier and made our way down. There are some interesting views of the Bay Area. There were several butterflies and preying mantises as well as different birds. I wasn't able to do much birding, but I think I was able to see some cliff swallows out at the pier and barn swallows near the parking lot. You can download and print out a bird list online.

I'll give this park 5 stars mainly because it's really great for strolling/jogging/beginner hiking. Flat and very wide trail paths. Driving here doesn't require facing questionable winding roads either (all paved commercial roads). No issues using Google Maps for real-time map navigation here. I had no trouble finding parking on an afternoon weekday but I can see parking availability being a bit dicey during weekends as the parking lot isn't huge. Only reason why I would consider giving this place 4 stars is because the sights aren't the most mesmerizing compared to those at other parks in the area. There are a few woodsy spots and I highly recommend taking the westernmost trails to have close bay water views.

For being in the Hood its a great Park, POINT PINOLE is a great spot to come on a family hike, or take the dogos out, for a jog and a run. or just a date doesn't hurt either. You can get to the spot through diffrent routs, i usually come through SAN PABLO to hit the taco truck either before or after. other than that the trail extends pretty far, you can walk around what we say the island and you can come down onto the bridge walk and walk towards the west end. I come here with my pups and they love it, big enough trail to have them fall asleep on the drive home. There is picnic tables a jungle gym, also i think they have a soccer field hidden in the trees. For what it is its a beautfiul area, dont let it being in the bay fool you it does get hot. ****DOG OWNERS. POINT ISABEL IS ANOTHER 'DOG' AREA YOU MUST CHECK OUT ASWELLL*****

Truly magical. I had no idea that something like this even existed in Richmond. One of the city's best kept secrets in my honest opinion. You'll get a nice mix of everything in this beautiful little park. Shady paths through Eucalyptus groves, dirt paths on the ridge with coast side views, trails that meander through marshland with direct coastal access to the beach, and paved paths through open space with beautiful park views. There's also a large fishing pier and tons of picnic areas. Did a 6 mile loop trail through this park. While it wasn't the most difficult hike to complete, it was insanely gorgeous the whole way through. I started on the Pinole Point trail which is a wide paved path that takes you through the center of the park. Took a detour through the Giant Station trail which maneuvers through the most stunning Eucalyptus groves. Parts of this trail looked like something out of a movie. The twilight zone. It was just so damn pretty. Next, I connected to the Bay View trail which literally has the most stunning "bay views" of the San Pablo Bay. This trail takes you along a beautiful ridge path that opens up to coastal views of the Bay and beach. The beach is accessing from a few viewpoints along this trail. I stopped at this beach and was shocked to see nobody else there. Damn was it peaceful! Such a rarity to find. The trail continues to run all the way down to the pier where you can soak in even more views. This seems to be a hot spot for local fisherman too. From here, you can connect to tons of other trails through the park. I ended up connecting to the Marsh trail which takes you through a neat marshland. Ended up at Cook's Point which is another coastal access spot. A little busier than the other beach access point but still enjoyable. Looped back around to the entrance while passing by several shaded picnic areas and other connecting trails. This was quite the adventure for me. The amount of versatility in this park is insane. Couldn't believe that I was so close to the city because it didn't even feel like I was still in Richmond. Plus, those views! Such a gorgeous little gem. The pier was also a nice little treat. Bring a jacket when making a detour out to the pier because it gets very windy. But wow, what a discovery! I had an absolutely blast exploring this place! The perfect place to embark on a brisk walk or a diverse lightish hike.

Peaceful and Serene Point Pinole is by far one of my favorite places to visit. I'm a sucker for outdoor activities, I thoroughly enjoy being outside in nature. Whenever I need to ground myself, looking to exercise or just want to clear my mind I come here. There is so much beauty that lies between the trees, trails and shoreline. More often than not I find myself gazing at the water near the man-made beach about a half a mile into the trail. My kids enjoy splashing in the water while I admire the view. Some people fish here, others hike or walk the trails. I'm admittedly a tree-hugger (literally) I am often observed hugging or touching the trees, thanking them for the fresh air we breathe etc. I've seen more than one sun set over the water, raced the kids along the trails and sung songs while pretending we've lost our way. Point Pinole has several places to have outdoor photo shoots, picnics and a park for the kids to play.

Excellent park to visit in the East Bay! Parking is free during the week, but can be enjoyed for a small fee on the weekends. There are lots of instagrammable spots if you pay attention and enjoy the natural scenery. Nearby the water, it's a little fishy smelling, but that's expected by the pier. The trail is flat, well maintained and not too crowded. The full loop trail was about 4 miles and my elderly parents was able to handle the full trail. There were plenty of picnic tables and benches for people to sit and rest as well.

I hiked here with my friend on this past Sunday since I happen to be in the area for a photoshoot. The address lead me to their main parking lot I think which was packed. Several cars were circling around to find a parking spot. I drove out of there to see if I can just find street parking, but there were "No parking" signs everywhere in that industrial area. I tried driving to a next street hoping maybe there's some kind of street parking that leads next to the park possibly. I turned into the first parking lot I saw which happen to be a jail facility?! Whoa.. we turned around and just went back to the parking lot again. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I nabbed a spot as a family was leaving. Yay! I think we spend about an hour and half there hiking. The place seemed like a nice park to walk with family or friends. We stumbled upon another parking lot which seemed even bigger. We realized if only I had kept driving a little further past the jail facility, we would have reached the other parking lot. Pfft... At least, I know now if I happen to come here again. Anywho... I wanted to find the trail which has like a tunnel of the eucalyptus trees, but we didn't find it. We walked on the beach area, which I found a cool rock pile that someone assembled on a log. It was perfect for pictures with the sun setting on the water.

This is a beautiful place. You can wander lots of trails with your furry friends as long as on a leash (the furry friend). The location is beautiful and the weather perfect. Bring water (for you and your furry friend(s)), a leash(s), and bags to clean up after your fur babies and you are good to go.

Point Pinole is another spot to get away from it all without getting away from it all. And indeed, when you're driving by only big warehouses from the north or wide open spaces from the south, it does feel like you're getting away from it all. Point Pinole's entrance is on or near the Giant Highway, which never seemed too giant to me. When I was there, I found out why this narrow two-lane road was called a giant highway: The Giant Powder Company was headquartered here, manufactured explosives, and so named this highway after themselves. My father told me of times visiting his uncle in Richmond, and seeing test explosives from this land at night. This land, parkland since 1973, is clearly not untouched. Lots of fire roads that are now trails to walk on. Lots of eucalyptus was planted here, and as flammable as they are, smoking is either highly discouraged or prohibited. One picnic table is located in a hollow reached by a fire road that was clearly dug into the hillside, and the site includes a cement wall and two cement pylons. All of the old buildings are removed, and because this part of Richmond was developed while Giant Powder Co. was still in business, this land did not become middle class tract houses (and then ghettoized). So it's in its somewhat natural state. So, the few hills are not steep, so no testing your mountain goat ability here. It's hard to get away from people on weekends, this is a popular place. Instead, at Point Pinole, you can take a stroll, take a jog, fish from either the shore or the pier, have a picnic, camp, snooze on the rocky beach, study the marshes, or a pretty girl can do a photo shoot. Not the sort of place I have a lot of interest in, but for thousands of people, Point Pinole is just the place they're looking for.

Beautiful hike that offers different trails for those that prefer water views and those that like being deep in the woods. I actually like both so we ended up meandering between a few trails. It also worked out well since it was a hot day, so the trees provided plenty of shade and cool breezes. Parking is easy as they have two lots. The trails are also spread out enough that it is easy to distance, but still would recommend going on a weekday to avoid any crowds. Would love to return and actually make it to the pier next time.

Came here for the first time today and it was free to enter. I think it said they had a fee from April to October at the entrance. There was a decent size parking lot and multiple trails tto explore. We went through the eucalyptus trees and took a short trail by the bay. Signs say that poison oak is present. Other signs say for dogs to not enter the marsh. What I appreciated was that the trail we went on was rather flat and good for people like me that like nature but don't have the stamina for a strenuous hike. There are also some benches along the way if you want to take a break and take in the scenery. Pros: -nature! -dogs are allowed off leash -benches are available -multiple trails to choose from, including flat trails

I've lived in the East Bay all my life and I can't believe I hadn't visited this park before today! I came here for a long run and was pleasantly surprised by how massive the park was. There was plenty of parking when I arrived & since the kiosk was unmanned, parking was free! The park had so many great trails to choose from (paved and unpaved). I was dreading my run initially but with all the beautiful scenery and fun trails that Point Pinole had to offer, my run felt much shorter than it actually was. Aside from the stunning ocean views and the shady eucalyptus trees, one of my favorite parts about the park was the pier near the tip of the park. There were so many people out fishing and it was super fun to people watch and see their catches. Another thing I appreciated about the park was the general upkeep and the clean bathrooms! The bathrooms were well spread out throughout the park so you don't have to go too far out of your way to find one.

Parking can be difficult to find if you come during peak times. You will find kids, dogs, families, all walks of life hanging out around here. Some of the bathrooms were really gross though. I'm not sure if it's dirt or some other brown stuff but I went into 2 bathrooms and the smeared "dirt" was everywhere on the ground, toilet seat, walls. I would recommend using the restroom before you arrive. Aside from that, this walking spot was perfect for me. The weather was breezy, the walk was easy, and the scenery was pretty. What more can you ask for?

Baseball games were being played while there are two separate play areas designated for smaller and bigger kids. Shade areas are hard to come by on warmer days. There are two benches with cement barriers wrapped around tree areas. Both are used for seating, but the cement areas offer ample shade under the trees. The larger play area for bigger kids has many structures to explore, climb and slide down. During our three hour stint of play, our daughter had many kids to play with. Between the play structure, digging in dirt and playing with bugs, play happened throughout the play area. Parking can be limited ,especially during baseball season, since it is nestled in a residential area with street parking. It is a few minutes from Baskin Robbins if the little ones have earned a scoop.

** The following review reflects my experience prior to and DURING the shelter-in-place order…read morecurrently in effect. ** Truth be told, I walk in the nearby Hillside Natural Area far more often than I come here not because I'm the rugged hiker type. Stop laughing. It's just that I'm not a fan of redundancy when it comes to adding up my daily steps. The park is primarily a rectangle with a bit of a wooded area, an easy-to-miss picnic area, and a paved perimeter around the baseball fields. This latter feature is inarguably convenient, especially for the baby stroller brigade and seniors who don't want to think about the terrain they're trodding. I don't either, but I need variety so I'll climb the steps to the hardly-used picnic grounds, make my way up to Navellier, and walk downhill on Moeser until I find myself back on the paved path again. It's called the Survivor trek of Cerrito Vista Park. Stop laughing. The main challenge with the paved perimeter is avoiding the occasional errant baseball and upholding safe distancing when it gets crowded. And indeed it does because shelter-in-place makes this park more attractive to the claustrophobically challenged. RELATED - Exploring El Cerrito?
