We came to attend our son's BCT graduation and this was one of the first places we visited and we are so glad that we did - our son's AIT will be Artillery and this museum has a wealth of artillery history from pre-revolutionary times to modern. I especially enjoyed the video showing us what our son will be doing in the Army Artillery. This old Fort Sill National Historic Landmark requires some imagination because it's still fully integrated into the base and officers still live in the old houses surrounding the parade field . Be sure to start in the main building and look at the diorama to get your bearings before you walk around. The best display is the old cavalry barracks which is set up exactly as it would have been around 1890-1900. Ft. Sill played an amazing part in our frontier history and this post does a good job of explaining it.

There are also a few places to park on the side of the road on the drive up with great sights as well. You can drive or hike up, but note that some mornings there are certain hours for just hikers, so visit the website to double check hours ahead of time if you plan to drive up. There are also no restrooms, so plan a pit stop before heading up if anyone in your party is potty training or has a small bladder. I highly recommend!

Movies look great, but I spend them wondering if my ears are really that bad or if this particular copy of the film has a damaged soundtrack. Then I remember that the sound system is at fault, and I wonder how I ended up here. Again. This is the theater on Ft Sill. During the week it is used for meetings and graduation ceremonies. On the weekend it shows second run movies at a reasonable price. Popcorn and candy are available, and most of the seats are not broken. I've never been to an official event in this space, but I'm guessing the only difference is a lack of snacks. Unfortunately, the cost of a movie here is more than I want to pay for the experience. Ticket prices for the first run theaters in Lawton are priced within a dollar, and have better sound. This is the theater closest to my house, but it is my last choice in town.
