Many of the holes have A/B/C baskets depending on your desired challenge level. The Course: Overall, the courses are pretty long. Most of the shorter holes come in at 300ft (A), but there is a long one with 500ftA/1000ftB/1200ftC. Early and late baskets are in the nice shaded woods. The middle baskets (8-12, including the 1200ft hole) are in a big open field, so you will want sun protection. The course wraps around near the lake so that you can have a great view of the water and kayakers, but not so close that there's any risk of tossing your disk into the lake. The course is well-marked with signs pointing toward the next area. Mostly well groomed, some of the field needed mowing. Be careful of stickers/burrs in tall grass. Amenities: There were bathrooms, but they were closed when we visited, likely covid-related closure. Parking lot for Pinto Lake was decently sized and no fees for parking.

There are a couple of holes that you'll have to search for because it's not too clear where they are at but if you have a disk golf app on your smart phone it will lead you to the next hole. Most of the course is around 300 plus feet but there are some holes that are over 500 feet or longer. All open and nothing but a strong arm. The other players on the course are friendly and will direct you in the directions you'll need to go. They'll even help find the disk if thrown into the rough. What is nice about this course is it isn't as busy as the other courses around the area.

Course has more holes that reward a RHBH player than LHBH. I played when almost every hole was on its B setting, which is the longer distance. Pros 2-4 pins per hole. Cement tee boxes. 2 practice baskets, but they are not located in an ideal location. DGA Mach V baskets throughout. Decent signage. Many holes have phone holders so you could film yourself teeing off (never seen this before.). Not too crowded, even during a peak time on a holiday. Modest elevation changes. Most of the course is wooded and require shots that navigate through and around tree clusters. Well maintained and still has that newish feeling. Several tee boxes were implemented on a slope and they built them up proper; slightly elevated, with wooden borders. Many holes have comfy wooden seating areas (tons of bowl holes;) Cons Course map needed a couple times to find the next hole. Poison oak is rampant. $6 parking fee must be paid at the lower Chestnut lot closer to the entrance. Bring bug spray, a few holes the mosquitos/gnats were annoying.

That's mostly offset by creative holes, with varying altitudes and obstacles, that are better for developing your overall game and can be a lot of fun. You'll throw through wooded areas that demand precision but also need to be able to just launch from a clifftop and cover the distance to a pin. Way more susceptible to wind causing trouble and occasionally the difficulty slows people down and bottlenecks occur, and some of these holes continually killed me. I found it to be an acquired taste, as familiarity with the course pays off.

What out for the poison oak and ticks. Poison oak is hard to see in the winter but still as bad. The markers for the holes need to be redone because all of them are destroyed. Hole one is between the road and track which makes it a bit challenging if you don't want your disk ran over. Hole two goes across the road which is kind of the same issue. Hole 5 goes across a dirt parking lot which could be bad if people are parked on it. The other holes are pretty good, except 17 which is all over grown. Besides that is okay course.

This course is...interesting. It's on Aptos High's campus, and is not totally clear in how to play…read moreit. The holes at times are super spread out, and at other times are right on top of one another. It kind of seems like they thought "we have soooooooo much space" for the 1st 13 holes, then for 4 of the last holes were like "crap, we have no more room..." It's an adventure a lot of the time to find the next hole. The tee may not be very close (or even in view) of the previous pin, and the sign pointing to it also might not be obvious. There's tons of poison oak and it's really easy to lose your disc in all the brush. Some of the holes are comical in terms of the places they chose to hide them on the course. This makes it really challenging, and you should play it expecting that you might lose a disc to the disc golf gods during play. On the other hand, this makes it a fun course to play. The tees don't have maps showing where the pin is. They just say what number you're on. Following are some notes that I thought of and things I learned while playing here for the 1st time last week: When you drive into the Aptos campus, you'll see some holes on the bottom as you drive in. Drive through the gate and up the hill past the baseball field. Park in the dirt lots next to the football field (between the football and baseball fields). You might see people playing at this point. Beware driving through/parking in the lower lot. This is a fairway for the 4th hole... The 1st hole is located next to the football field across from the parking lot. If you stand in the lot and look at the baseball field, it will be behind you. The pin is up the hill. If you lost your disc into the field, there's an opening in the gate about 1/2 way between the tee and the pin. Tees face the general direction of the pins. Use them to figure out where to throw. After completing the 1st hole, look for the blue sign pointing to the 2nd hole. The tee for it is up the hill and across the road, through the open, chained gate posts. The 3rd hole is back down the hill fromt he 2nd tee. The tee for the 3rd hole is straight down the main pathway to the big tree, then about 60 degrees left and back about 50 meters. (You might want to walk down the path a short ways to spot it). The 4th tee is back down the hill towards the 1st pin, but then through a goat trail and at the beginning of the parking lot. As you're shooting the 4th hole, you'll see 2 pins as you approach. The 4th hole pin is the 1 on the right (the left is for hole #18). The 5th hole tee is across the street. The pin is up over the hill, just on the other side of the crest, directly inline with the goat trail that's been created. The 6th hole starts to the left of the 5th pin. The hole is located behind a small bush straight down the alleyway of trees and slightly to the left. The 7th hole is a doozey. You basically throw straight and a little left down the hill. The safe bet is to throw to the clearing straight ahead, then make the 2nd shot at the hole. Beware the wind on this hole. It's super easy to throw the disc up and have it taken left, which will land you in an endless sea of bushes. Bye bye disc. (Miraculously found mine the other day...). Walk 1/2 way back up the 7th hole fairway and then turn left to reach the 8th tee. The hole is all the way down the hill, more or less straight. When we played the other day, it had an orange (looked red in the shadows) construction cone on top of it to let you know where it was. Beware of bikers making/using jumps 1/2 way to the hole. Another excellent place to lose a disc. The 9th hole is pretty easy by comparison, as are the 10th - 16th. There are no real tricks and they're all fairly obvious/can be seen from the tees. The 17th hole is over the little hill and around to the left, behind the beginnings of all the crazy bushes, very close to the road. From the 17th pin, walk up the road to the 18th tee, which will be on the righthand "sidewalk." The pin is behind the tees in front of you. You can play to the right over all the bushes, or throw down the road, which I think is actually closer/easier. If you remember where the 18th pin is when you walk past it on the 4th hole, you'll find this hole a little easier. Completing this hole dumps you back in the parking lot, hopefully with all your discs and not too much poison oak. The course overall runs up and down some solid hills, on slippery dirt and sand, and is really, really dusty. Expect to get dirty, sweaty, and a bit poison oaky. There are no bathrooms, really...but, it's a fun course and I recommend it for novice and serious players. It's a bit like a mini golf course in the way that is has obstacles and fun ways to shoot around.

Luckily on a busy Sunday there were enough people playing that I could ask. Once getting to hole one, I saw there was no map or markers on the course. Again, luckily for the amount of people playing, I could see where the basket was. After hole one, the course was pretty easy to follow. Maps can be found on the remaining tees. It shows the distance of each basket. However there are four possibilities for each hole and not each basket is easily seen from the tee. Def good to walk the course or play with someone your first go around. Not much for OB, only a couple mandy. Not many trash cans on the 9 hole course. Lots of trees and poison oak. Good course to sharpen your skills.

Normally everyone here is respectful but this morning I watched some paddle-boarder head right for some fisherman's line.. the reservoir is massive with so much space.
