I was able to get an interesting colored vinyl variant of Aesop Rock's "Daylight" EP while I was there at a reasonable price, and was also able to have a conversation about said record with the guy working. It felt like an old school genuine record store vibe, which is disappearing and appreciated. They have a lot of junk - in the most loving way - that you may want to get, like collectible toys. Not so much of the Funko Pop variety, but more like actual toys you might remember playing with - like He Man and the Masters of the Universe, or The Simpsons figures. I like that more than the "everything is still in a box and not meant to actually be enjoyed" variety, so this place is cool there. It's a nice little place to swing into to just look around, maybe pick up a record, and have a cool convo. Can't complain about any of that.

If you're into punk / metal / hardcore, they have a great selection, but I've also picked up some good hip-hop, jazz, folk, and country stuff here, too. The dude that works behind the counter is super friendly, chatty, and seems to genuinely appreciate people being there. The sign even says "Friendliest Record Store." I'll be honest - as a former record store employee with a terrible attitude that kind of put me off at first. But as I've gotten older and less unruly, it was appreciated when I was able to wax nostalgic about wax with him. Good selection of 7"s, too - and if you look at their website you can virtually check what's in stop before hitting them up. Oh, and they have sales - often! - that are noted on their Instagram page. Need more shops like this. Need more people to support shops like this. I'm a fan.

It got real crowded up in there real fast. I wish they had more seating outside so people could just chill and enjoy the beats. It's probably more comfy on a regular day to come and dig through their records for that unexpected gem. My husband is a dj so he loved the 404 event and the vinyl that he found. Some (used) albums are pricey and makes you think, "why?" I found three things I didn't know I needed within the first ten minutes. the selection is genuinely impressive across categories. fiction, nonfiction, history, art, local interest, vintage stuff you won't find anywhere else. prices are what used books should cost, nothing felt overpriced and I felt like I was getting a deal on basically everything I picked up. the R Street location is perfect, great neighborhood, easy to make it part of a longer afternoon in Sacramento. staff was friendly and clearly knows the store well. there's something about a good independent bookstore that just makes a city feel more alive and Beers Books absolutely does that for Sacramento. if you're visiting or you live there and haven't been, go on a slow afternoon and give yourself time to actually wander. you'll find something.

I was specifically looking for Mesoamerican mythology and history of colonial Mexico and I found it. Books are decently priced, they have both new and used. Also very Spanish-speaking friendly. I was helped promptly and cordially at checkout. They are in the same small shopping mall as O'Reilly auto parts and a mobile phone shop. Liam and Kate were so helpful and went above and beyond at my visit yesterday. They gave me a time frame of when I would be called via the intercom. The selection of books, CDs, DVDs, video games, and other exciting things were all presented with visual aesthetics. The rest of the staff assisted me with where the restroom was at and another person helped me out with where to go by directing me to the way to get there. Liam again helped me out with my books I placed on to the push carts. Kate was there to help me out at the cash register after I found a few books I have been looking for at other book stores and online. I would like to highly suggest any book readers or book worms, any other physical media, or nostalgic items to come to this store and support a great collection of not only books, but a very professional team and staff at this particular store location.
