I visited Half Price Books, the staff assisted me in everything I asked of them on June 6th, 2026. It was a busy Saturday afternoon. Liam and Kate were so helpful and went above and beyond at my visit yesterday. They gave me a time frame of when I would be called via the intercom. The selection of books, CDs, DVDs, video games, and other exciting things were all presented with visual aesthetics. The rest of the staff assisted me with where the restroom was at and another person helped me out with where to go by directing me to the way to get there. Liam again helped me out with my books I placed on to the push carts. Kate was there to help me out at the cash register after I found a few books I have been looking for at other book stores and online. I would like to highly suggest any book readers or book worms, any other physical media, or nostalgic items to come to this store and support a great collection of not only books, but a very professional team and staff at this particular store location. I went here for the first time. I don't come out to citrus heights that often. Very nice store. Well organized. For a store called half price books, it sure doesn't feel like it. I understand stores gotta make money. Most items were close to retail. However, somethings I did like. Their graphic novels I felt were priced faire. Their dvds and blurays were priced fare. I would comeback again. While I had some minor issues on certain prices, I am glad to see more brick and mortar based stores still exist, Stop shopping on amazon and support real businesses'. read more

I shop here often at least 2-3 times a month. However today while shopping the manga / comics I found two books I know to be incredibly explicit that were not locked up. I'm aware of the explicit level due to having read these book. I took them to the buy back counter in the back and the worker made me feel as if I was being ridiculous about the books. These books show full nudity, rape and torture. Half the books they lock up are silly and rarely explicit. If they're going to keep explicit manga on the sale floor they should at least shrink wrap them. It's unfortunate I'm leaving a review like this. But the workers seemed to care more about it sales then child safety. read more

There are many times I want to buy something cool for my husband but can't justify some of the prices.. I absolutely love this place! Once I walked in those doors I knew I would be coming back to dig through the goodies. From books, comics, and magazines, to vinyls and cds, to dvds, and vhs tapes, all the way to used electronics and video games, this place has so much good stuff. I've bought several books for my book club, cds to listen to at home, and various gifts for other people. I would say the prices are really good here, much cheaper than if you tried going to a chain book store or even small local shops (still should support them). The store is really well organized and clean. The staff are very nice and helpful if you're looking for something specific. My daughter's teacher recommended this spot. It's a big store with lots to explore. Books were neatly organized in sections. The kids books are located in the back left corner. Aside from books, we also saw board games, toys, movies (DVD/VHS), records, CDs, comic books, puzzles, greeting cards, & more. We were able to browse freely. Music played in the background. They have carts to use, but apparently you can't take them out of the store. Instead, they offer assistance to bring books to your car. If they have multiple copies, do take some time to look for the best one. I saw 2 books priced the same though one was significantly more beat up. We were informed that the policy on board games was that if you find a piece is missing, you can return it within 7 days, otherwise get store credit within 30 days. We weren't greeted, weren't approached by any workers, & had a straightforward check out experience. read more

I was so happy to discover we had a Half Price Books store in the Sacramento region! I've seen these on IG & TikTok across the nation and hopped on Yelp to find we had one here! There's plenty of parking in the lot out front of the business. When you walk in, you are kindly greeted and there's a display for the latest trends such as women's history month was posted when I came in. They buy books so consider taking your items in. I loved the new and used books offered along with other fun merchandise. I ended up buying a planter and crochet kit as well as a few books. Sunday~9/21/2025. I went to Half price books to sell my new dvd's, cds and used books. I took everything out of the box, put everything on the cart. Employees were friendly but took over 1-hour. They called my name and I went to the counter. But, I was shocked and surprised! What? The cashier said they would offer me less than $2? Next time, I would suggest selling online. Not worth the time. They are here to make a profit, that's the bottom line. I suggest going to Abebooks or Biblio to see what your books are worth before heading over. Wow! I drove down there, wasted 1-hour and got less than 8 qty quarters in return. I know you need to make a profit, but not going to make the same mistake. I love to read, and it's always a challenge for me to find something that will capture my attention, pull me in, and keep me turning the pages. I find myself at my local library from time to time, but there's a lot to be said for having a book collection. I absolutely adore my book collection, and that's what keeps me shopping at Half Price Books. The staff is absolutely phenomenal. They're incredibly knowledgeable about the stock they have, the authors, and are happy to make suggestions based on your preferences. Since the big bookstoresclosed their doors, this is definitely my go to when I'm in the area. They're constantly filling the shelves with new books and I squeal in delight every time I stop in. The biggest joy, is that their books are priced fairly, and I often leave feeling like I just scored the best deal in town. It's a great place to take your kids or any Littles in your family, and let them roam the kids area. The store literally carries books for all ages and stages, and it's a great way to get the Littles into reading on a regular basis. The store literally carries every type of book you could possibly think of from do it yourself, cooking, fiction/non-fiction, pick a genre, and I'm willing to bet that they have it! It's also a great date spot. We find ourselves stopping in to shop before dinner, or sometimes when we're just out and about on a weekend. Great staff, plenty of free parking, and absolutely plenty of choices in any in every genre that you can think of. I was able to self direct for most of my perusals but there were a few I couldn't find and the lady at checkout was super helpful as well as the employees around the store. I found a ton of "trophy" copies of books I loved and a few new ones to read. Highly recommend! Probably 1/3 the price of B&N. Most paperbacks were 7.50-10, most hardcovers were 10-15. Really reasonable and competitive with Amazon's prices (because I'd rather support something local). I got 7 books for ~$71 and 4 were hardcovers. read more

Whenever I come in, staff is very friendly and quick to welcome. I also appreciate how the store is dog friendly so I can bring my dog in while I browse. They have a wide selection but because it's a used bookstore, you'll never know what you'll find. I've seen books and board games from back in my childhood. Ignore negative reviews from people who have an outsize perspective on what their books are worth. They pay wholesale value in a 1-stop and drop venue accepting any book. If you want more go through the hassle of having a yard sale and expect to sell 1/4 of your books. We got over $40 for 6 boxes of books and bought 3 books for 1/2 of what Amazon charges. This place is an absolute treasure, such a hidden gem! I have been here many times over the years and each time I walk away with a stack of books. The store is very clean and staff is always super friendly. I just recently learned that this is a chain; I had no idea. I am a huge fan of how they do end cap displays featuring books for the season, Holiday, etc. They have terrific values! They also will buy your used books , cds, dvds, records, etc. They carry more than just books, although books are their focus. My favorite section is the cookbooks. If you have not checked this place out it's a must! My dad is an avid reader and I took him here on a whim as he's not usually in this part of town and he absolutely loved the store and set up. Great book store! The employees are very friendly, sections are clearly labeled. I was in the market for some real bargain books, and I was able to find some books that fit my penny pinching budget. I walked out with four books and a double album for $23. Not too shabby! I can't wait to come back and look through more of the sections. To be precise the HPB stores do not give the customers that sell their books a very transparent deal .Not indicating the value directly to the customer is misleading and insulting. Brought in ten bags of books, CDs and vinyl records from the last 30 years ,books of history, fiction, non-fiction, religion, travel ,cooking, children books, etc. Then being told that it will not be lucrative for resell because it would sit on the shelves too long. If not resaleable they should have the customer decide if the books should be taken back instead of being horded on the sly by the store. I regret setting foot in the store and would have done a hundred times better with a private used bookstore. The offer for ALL the items was $35.00 and I was never offered the option to donate or take back what was considered useless. The 10 CD were PUTAMAYO, the 20 vinyl records were music from different countries, the books were for example: The Exodus, the Thorn Birds, 2 volumes of Hitler, Den of Thieves etc. (can't remember it all ) I am absolutely appalled by the practice of this business and assuming that we can tolerate such misleading dealings as we get milked blind. PLEASE DO NOT BE SWAYED BY THE FRIENDLINESS OF THE STAFF..as told in the previous reviews .It is not what it seems. read more

HPB is a wonderland. I'm so impressed my the volume and variety of their collection. And it's all organized so well, it almost makes me believe I've stepped into a library. Most impressive of all is that when I'm on the hunt for something, and lately the somethings I'm hunting are nostalgic, they have it. I've been in the business of procuring a complete collection of my favorite manga from back in the day lately, and they've been a big help. I'm glad I stepped in here right before the Rona closures. I plan to continue my searches with them online. When they do start up again for browsing I highly recommend stopping in. They do trades for store credit, and I've been very pleased over the years with what credit I've been given for my ever-changing stacks. Everyone I've encountered here has been a delight. I'm an introvert, but I feel comfortable here. Staff knows when to engage and when not to. Ugh I love that. I could spend hours inside this store and believe me, I have. I can't wait to do so again. FYI they also have records, CDs, video games, an impressive assortment of periodicals, manga, comic books, soooo much beyond the realm of used books. As an experiment, today I tallied up the list price of my two bags of books (in pristine condition, BTW), and the total was $580+. Their offer? Only $17.25 along with some bullshit about supply and demand. I seriously doubt each of those books brought in was researched for that. Some clown just pulled statistics out of his ass.
