They have a very good selection of fabrics. Lots of specialty items, too. Fabric for outdoor projects, draperies, and notions that can be hard to find in other places. LOTS of wonderful Hawaiian prints! Sometimes I just wander among the fabrics. The friendliness of service does fluctuate depending on which associates are in the store today. It used to get me down, but now I'm braced for it so it doesn't bother me. (Even the unfriendliest one is much nicer and more helpful than the owner at Simply Naturals in Honoka'a!) Something I LOVE about the store is they have socially conscious projects. They run frequent Make a Duffle Bag group sessions, and they provide the material, the pattern, the machines, and guidance. The Duffle Bags go to local children who get taken from troubled homes and placed in Foster Care. The Duffle Bags mean the children don't have to put their stuff in black plastic garbage bag when they leave their home. They also have an ongoing Give a Girl a Dress. You can donate fabric or be part of the sewing project, to make dresses for little girls in Africa who dress in rags or go naked. Girls who dress in rags are more likely to be taken for human trafficking and sex slavery. The dresses are thoughtfully made so they can fit a girl as she grows up. Prices are fair, and there's a wide range of prices. Premium fabrics are premium priced, and lesser fabrics are lesser priced. read more

The gals, Teyani & Malia, in Kona, are so friendly and helpful as I was looking for Japanese and Hawaiian fabrics to use in a quilt. They took there time to assist me and showing me which fabrics were suitable since I was looking for 100% cotton. The selection is amazing and at the same time overwhelming because of all the fabrics available. They even took my husband to show him some fabrics that he might like for me to use in a quilt. I had my own reusable bag that I carry with me and received 20% off my purchase which was a nice surprise. I also asked about ordering once home, and Teyani said to reach out and would be able to find the exact fabric I wanted if I sent a picture... now that is great service until I return to the island! read more

Fantastic selection! I found exactly what I needed. If you need something, they'll probably have it. They're located at the top of the road, keep driving up and there's a row of parking stalls available. It is a warehouse feel, and I'll have to agree with other reviews where the prices aren't exactly "discount." Fair to decent pricing, but I wouldn't say cheap. They have so many different types of fabric that I can lose track of time just wandering through looking at them all. They also have sewing machines, thread, and other various sewing supplies available. The service was so-so. If it wasn't as busy when I visited, I think the service would have been more attentive. There may have been about 6 other people there, a few waiting their turn to be helped when I walked in. Their workers were friendly when helping me, but definitely rushed. read more

Shopping for decades in this store and found most of the staff annoying and couldn't give a hoot what you want or need. The best blessing to this store was good ole "Mary" who's retired now but used to give classes and was always helpful and good vibes. After store's recent downsize, they may soon be out of business unless staff (owner) steps up to the plate. Oh, need I mention after spending hundreds of dollars at the store during the recent changeover, a young transitional temp manager was crude & tactless a**hole with customers! You definitely leave the store with a bad taste in your mouth. I think the boss just leaves the A**hole pills for staff before their shift and cannot be found. 6/22/2020 1:14p I was buying fabric, and asked for assistance in finding an invisible pen. The woman cutting my fabric said "you have to go look on the wall over there. She was white, stocky, and with purple red hair. So rude. Thank goodness another salesperson a tall local woman rang up my order. I asked her for a pen and she pointed to a cup right by the register. That other woman is always rude to me when I go into that store. I suppose she's rude to everyone. read more

I have lived in kona 30 years and have realized that the only time to visit this store is to be in a severe time crunch or have no other option. Wow. It was my first time there today...and also my last. The cashier was extremely rude and my sister had to walk out of the store to stop herself from snapping at this worker. This was all after waiting patiently as the customers ahead of us took long with their transactions. I've worked customer service positions before, so I understand what it feels like to have long lines and people waiting. There's no excuse for this kind of treatment. This experience left me with an extremely bad impression. I'll just pay the extra $$ and go to Ace Hardware or hopefully Walmart will have what I need next time. read more

First let me say that I appreciate the fact that this is a family owned business that started here on the BI in Hilo. Supporting our local businesses is most essential right now, but always has been important. I also appreciate that they are taking extra precautions during the pandemic, by limiting the amount of people that come in the store at any given time. Their selection of fabric was completely overwhelming for me (but in a very good way). If I wasn't on my lunch break, I would have stayed there for hours looking at all the different prints. Every style of fabric, specialty prints, basic prints, a large selection of keiki and island prints are available there. Love the variety! But I really wanted to write this review because of the complaints I read about customer service and high prices. This is Kona. Better yet, this is HI. Everything is more costly here, so this is par for the course. As far as customer service- All of the staff was pleasant and helpful when I visited for the first time, and everyother time since then. Jasmine is always extra helpful, very friendly, and knowledgeable when I was asking a ton of questions about the different sewing machines they had available. I, along with everyone else, am currently making protection masks. But I am making them in mass quantities, and her kokua during my last few visits has been amazing! read more

If I didn't have to give them a star, I wouldn't. First let me start by saying that every single one of the women who worked there when I went in yesterday, were rude, unfriendly, unhelpful, and discriminated against me because of my age. I truely felt this way due to the fact that they blatantly disregarded my questions when asked for assistance as I watch them help all the "older" women in the store. Second, when I ask for help with measurements so I could make an accurate purchase, I was told by some freak with pink hair that she didn't know any thing about measurements. Wait... what?! Then wtf is she doing working there!!! Third, and this just flipped my lid, I was over charged and not even told a thank you for my purchase. Good thing I check my receipts. I noticed that ALLL THE SALE SIGNS POSTED UP EVERY WHERE didn't apply to my purchase although it damn well should have considering I selected my product based on the display of sale posters. Oh and the kicker, having to chase down another clerk to correct the mischarge. Her response when asked if my purchase included the discount posted all over the fucken store was "Are you saying I made a mistake ?"... YES BITCH! YOU ALL DID!!! Let's just say to admit any of thier mistakes would have probably killed them. Again no sorry, no thank you , no fuck off have a nice day... nada! I love the store hate the service and I will be filing a business complaint against them especially when for the past 15 years I have shopped there and have always been treated like shit. As a quilter from the mainland, i really enjoyed this shop! The "regular" cottons are ones you can easily find on the mainland; the prices are reasonable (quilters are used to paying $12-14/yard so $6-8 isn't bad!) but I couldn't lug back too much fabric so i saved my shopping for the "kawaii" (cute japanese fabric), japanese and hawaiian prints. also really reasonably priced! big selection of the above mentioned fabrics and a row of African prints. the lady helping me was really patient--again, we quilters like lots of cuts--I got a bunch of quarter-yard cuts and she cheerfully cut them all (and the prints i wanted were on big rolls, not the bolts like the regular cottons--i tried helping to put them back, but they were hard for me to maneuver!) Nice selection of fat quarter bundles too. We had a wonderful time on the Big Island but this is probably my personal highlight! read more

This store is what it says it is: a warehouse. But what it lacks in cozy/homey feel, it makes up for in great selection. I spent most of my time looking through the rolls of Hawaiian prints--many poly-cotton choices for $5/yd and cotton ones for a little more. It also had great Japanese prints, and a remarkable variety of other stuff. I noticed quality hunting/camo stuff, real African prints, batiks, a nice selection of knits for garment sewing, and rows and rows of quality quilting cottons in a wide variety of prints. In the front is a sewing machine service shop. There are notions--including wood and coconut buttons--plus some upholstery fabric and other stuff. It's not your cute, high end quilt shop, but their prices are great, their selection is really diverse, and I found them friendly and helpful. They have rows and rows of Hawaiian fabric. I had trouble finding the shop--the google map that their store website linked to was wrong. It's in the back/uphill side of a bunch of shops with the Korea Bar on the side closest to the street. read more

Great fabric shop. Tons of Hawaiian print fabrics on the roll, priced between 4 and 6 dollars a yard. Beautiful vibrant fabrics in different weights. Tons of other fabric, quilting cotton, apparel fabric, upholstery fabric, notions, the works. Bundles of super cute fat quarters. They also have singer and babylock machines. The service is super friendly and helpful. This was a great spot for me, a tourist, to come in and bring home some gorgeous fabric but there were also a ton of locals buying fabric for their own crafts. They have a frequent buyer discount card and a website that has a fraction of their in store stock. The building is a little rough, like it was hot and humid inside, but it is a warehouse, so that's to be expected. The parking area was small but sufficient for the location. Also, there is another fabric store at the building down the hill from this place, easy to confuse the 2. I didn't go to the other one, so no comparison. read more

This family owned place feels anything but. The face of the company, the owners judgemental daughter, was just as impersonal as the fabric cutter who seemed deeply resentful for my business. I spent over $500 on a new machine that ceased up after two hours of sew time. They refused to take it back after 7 days. But Offered to service it... with no time frame of return.Who wants a machine of that poor quality! I left shaking I was so stunned by the way I was talked down to and intentionally intimidated by the lady. I do not like to give my money to big business' but, go to Walmart...they are cheaper and nicer. Terrible scammy place ! My mother decided to check out this place ! The receipt and the price tag didn't match . When my mother pointed out the women was extremely rude and unprofessional. She said there was nothing she could do, she couldn't refund her . This is the most ridiculous service I have ever received. It's embarrassing to someone treat a customer like that because their own mistake . Honestly, I wanted get a lawyer for her harassment and unethical business . Looked this fabric store up while I am visiting the big Island. I have been searching for a Hawaiian table cloth each time I come to the Island with no success. i decide to try this warehouse out and was not disappointed. They have a large variety of fabrics and the young lady I ask for assistance from was extremely helpful and pleasant . She guided me as to the best fabric to use and I could not be happier. This is a gift for my sister on the mainland. I will diffidently return to this place on our yearly visit. read more

if i could leave a negative star review i would. I had the worst imaginable experience here with my cousin and mom. We went shopping for fabrics for my cousin to bring back to the mainland, and there was one worker who was awful. she was rude from the second we got there, and even rolled her eyes at my mom when their signs were unclear about where to bring the fabric. She was rude to my cousin as well, rudely speaking to him when he asked for a separate transaction. The worst part was when we were checking out and my mother had them break a 100 for a 50 dollar purchase and the woman said they only had 1 and 5 dollar bills. My mother then gave her a 50 she found in her wallet and the worker proceeded to yell rudely at my mother for a two dollar difference that she messed up. honestly one or the worst experience i've had here, and that woman deserved to be fired for her lack of customer service. the manager even had the nerve to stick up for the rude worker. definitely don't come here if you want a care free shopping experience. edit : they just called my mother back and said their drawer wasn't under or over meaning they were wrong and still insisted my mother owed them 2 dollars. so do they not know how a cash register works?! if it was under my mother would have owed them money, but it wasn't. guess admitting they were wrong would kill them. read more

Yes, it is a warehouse and a bit rough, ok if the fabric rocks and the folks are friendly. We have fabric warehouses near us so I was ready. It was musty inside and since there was no air conditioning it seemed worse. I live in the fog so I know musty and do not want to buy musty fabric. Selection was ok but we have all this on the mainland and NO staff person ever said boo the whole time I was there. It was quiet so they could at least said hello. I wandered the entire store and really wanted to buy something but nothing was special enough and the musty smell finally was more than enough for me. The prices were good but still found nothing fabulous. I ended up getting my fabric fix at the store in Hilo. read more

Customer service is terribly lacking here and the warmth I received in there was from the lack of AC. The 17 year long veteran employee seems to be just biding her time there. The ladies in this store are so kind and helpful. I have been coming here for the last 8 years with little ones in tote buying items for various sewing projects. They have always gone way beyond to help me find exactly what I need for each project; even helping me calculate the yardage and amounts of accessories. I also love that they do the sewing for charity kits...(dog beds, foster care duffle bags...etc...). read more
