Stopped by to buy our daughter's birthday presents. Saw a scary, angry, homeless, shirtless man outside, (different from the frightening one who yells at the air that we usually see there) and we hurried in the store.
Put $150 worth of toys in the cart, and saw signs posted on every aisle and endcap of their toy aisles, and their sporting goods section stating that if you text a number you will get a coupon for $25 off of a $100 purchase and $10 off a $50 purchase. Okay, did that. Husband got a text w/coupon, I got a text w/coupon. All good right?
NOPE.
THESE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY'RE ADVERTISING!!!
Lines were loooonnnnng and slllloooow as usual and when we get to the part where we say goodbye our honest, hard earned $$$, Cashier didn't know what to do. She looked confused about the coupon that was just texted to us, told us they don't accept Apple Pay (like wth does that have to do with anything?) and she called a lead.
We get some scruffy, drugged out looking, mop haired man named Johnny who we had to explain very slowly to, that the signs in the aisles advertised for $25 off of a $100 purchase. husband did the math for him, added things up, and showed that he was indeed buying $100 worth of toys. Man was acting self-righteous, so hubby asked to speak to a manager. Beach bum lookalike claimed that he was the manager. Hubby asked for the STORE manager. Dude claimed that he was the store manager. Husband asked for his boss. He got the response, "he's not here today." I'm standing there surprised because he did not look or act like any store manager I've ever seen or worked for, and I'm thinking wow. They must have low standards if he's the guy in charge.
Then without saying anything, the guy keyed in the code that gave us $25 off. He then tells husband, " I did what you wanted."
No, you did your job and honored the coupon JUST LIKE THE AD SAID.
Okay, good now, right?
NOPE!
I'm getting ready to pay-- I have $50 in toys, and household/toiletries that I want to buy with the money that I earn. Dude tells us, "you can't split the transaction."
WTF right?
Since when can't two people pay for their things separately?! I see people paying for their things separate from their friends and relatives ALL THE TIME. But nope. This bummy guy was telling us we couldn't.
Husband asked him to show him where it said that. Dude couldn't provide it in writing. He verbally stated that "it's just our policy." Husband told him, "come with me I will take you to the signs and you can show me where it says that."
Dude said "no" and radioed for help. Don't know if it's because he knew he was wrong and looking like an idiot, or because he was scared of a smart, university educated, Bachelor's degree earning Hawaiian who can do math really fast, and doesn't just accept what someone says as fact.
His "help" came in the form of three women, and a man, and husband asked the man if bummy looking dude was the store manager. Man said "no..." With a puzzled look on his face.
Husband explained what happened, and let them know that he was recording them. Scruffy man got defensive, and told them to make us leave. Woman came over and told husband that they had to escort him out of the store. WHY? Because he was mad at how we were being treated because of a coupon that THEY ADVERTISED?
Self-proclaimed store manager then told hubby that he was going to CALL THE COPS!!!
Husband was NOT yelling, or threatening, or punching, or cursing etc. anyone... But guess that's how they roll here. (I actually wish he DID call the cops. Would've been fun to see him try to explain to them that he was wrong and the customer was right.)
Johnny is SO UNPROFESSIONAL and DISHONEST. Who lies about being the store manager? Seriously. Someone's got issues. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
Again, this was ALL over a sale that THEY ADVERTISED IN STORE. Way to go dude, you lost regular customers over a $10 coupon, computerized digits that they aren't even taking straight out of your paycheck!!!
After all is said and done, it was the last $200 we will EVER spend at Kona Target. read more
