After hitting too many pot holes in Spokane's streets, my muffler was loud and a tail pipe lost its support so it was hanging low. After finding Discount Muffler took my truck in to see if it could be repaired only to find it was beyond repair! I was dreading the replacement cost and time needed to do the work, but I was amazed at the low price they quoted me to replace the muffler and tail pipe. They had the entire job done in about 30 mins!! Why did I wait so long?? My truck sounds so much better!! These guys are Amazing!! They were friendly, honest, affordable and fast!! OMG. Called in advance to confirm they'd install my own brand-new parts. I needed an entire exhaust system replacement on my work-van, and had no problem paying their labor rate to have them do it. They'd done work for me previously, two years earlier, did an excellent job at a fair price, and I highly recommended them after that. I'm a decent mechanic and normally do my own work, but an injury prevented this after I'd bought the parts from Amazon (hospitalized). Ron told me to bring it in at 8 am since they didn't take appointments, "So they could make sure they'd have everything needed to do the job". I explained that I was two hours away so asked if I could drop it off the night before, making me first-in-line for the next morning. He said that would be even better. I didn't want to leave the house at 5:30 AM just to make sure I was first in line (really glad now that I didn't). It had to be done the same-day if my wife couldn't pick me up. It's a major event to pull this off because my wife works around the USA in federal courtrooms, and is normally only home on weekends, so we had a rare weekday time-window to pull this off with two drivers. She flew back into town the night before and stayed-overnight to make this happen. I pulled in at 3 PM Thursday afternoon after a two-hour drive down, and Ron shockingly told me he'd need to keep the van 4-5 DAYS before he could get to me. WTF? "You guys who bring in your own parts move to the end of the line. MY CUSTOMERS come first!" I was stunned. I WAS A REPEAT PAYING CUSTOMER!! "I don't care if you even came all the way down from CANADA! It's not my problem". We didn't come from Canada, but 12 miles short of that. USA. Didn't care that I was a repeat customer who'd highly recommended him in the past. He then told me that he wasn't going to commit to doing my repair "Because someone else may come in who needs a $1000 catalytic converter replaced, and they're my priority. I won't risk losing their business because I'm doing your job". Of course. I did my best to stoutly shame him into being held accountable to some sort of human decency and accountability, that I had acted solely on his instructions in bringing it down, reminding him that in dropping my rig off the night before, I'd be first in line for his 8 AM chaos. Seeing that his brash, crass, BLUNT rudeness wasn't running me out of his office, and that I was holding him directly accountable, he reluctantly responded that I'd have to leave it overnight, and he'd TRY to get it done on Friday. Refused to GUARANTEE this 1-hour job was going to be done, 'because the electricity may go out or something'. Playing games. COULDN'T BE TRUSTED. Didn't need or care about my business. I pressed him several times for a guarantee. Refused to give one. He assured me that he was the only shop in town that would install a customer's parts, which was a lie, and I told him BS. Apparently that line works for him. He then told me that he was working alone that day because his partner was in the hospital. He told me the exact-same-thing two years earlier. I say bullsh!t. I wasted five hours of my time and $50 in fuel, and my wife, two hours and $35 in fuel. I charge $150-an-hour for my time, and my wife $85-per-hour for hers. I'll never recommend Discount Muffler again. I acted in good faith. Ron did not. While I was there, a woman was going to have her cat replaced on her 2000 Toyota Tacoma. Ron had previously replaced her forward cat, and this time it was going to be the rear. He told her $556, and she asked when to bring it in, she then being told 8 AM the next morning. That cat can be bought on Amazon for under $100, less for Ron, and YouTube will show that it's a 30-minute job for a professional to remove 8 easy-access exhaust bolts and 2 gaskets, no welding, and then replace the same. $450+ profit in 30 minutes. That's $900-an-hour. That example is why MY business moves to the end of the line. Mechanics routinely rip customers off, and this is no exception. No way in hell would I agree to paying $900 for my 1-hour job. Prey on the unknowing. My wife couldn't believe what she was seeing. I have no problem with him choosing to favor large-profit jobs over those like mine.  That's his business model.  That's how he shuffles those showing up at 8 AM.  My problem is that he never informed me of this over the phone, before we adjusted OUR lives and schedules to make this happen.  I needed and expected same-day service, my only requirement, and he knew that in advance. His attitude was that he was doing me a favor to do my work, and that I was a very low-priority due to bringing my own parts.  My entire exhaust system, catalytic converter, muffler, and pipes, only cost me $237! Ron should NEVER be dealing with the public.  He should hire a service writer. Find another shop. Spokane deserves better. Stop rewarding this BS. read more

I was recommended this muffler shop by a reputable mechanic so I went in with high hopes. Don't expect a warm greeting. The person running the front desk is cold. I asked for an estimate and was met with an argument about a resonator being a cat (it's not). I even showed a graphic of the bottom of my car provided by MagnaFlow clearly labeling it a resonator. I went in with an exhaust leak. They quoted me a weld up thinking they might need to weld in a bit of metal. Turned out my exhaust is more solid than expected so they lowered the price from their quote. They are a no frills, skilled shop. I've seen other work they have done on full exhaust systems and it was quality. They do good work. I will say their people skills may be lacking. They gave the lady after me a hard time because she asked if they were able to get her right in. They told her if she wanted to try to convince me to let her go first that they could. I think they meant it as a joke but she took offense. They should have just told her she would be up after me. read more

Recently had my G35 in and told them I noticed the exhaust tips were rusting out and falling off and at the time I thought the mufflers needed work since they're welded together. Got a call shortly after dropping it off and I was informed that the mufflers were perfectly fine and they had better quality exhaust tips they could weld on that wouldn't rust. I appreciated their honesty in todays time. I talked to one of the workers about installing an upgraded muffler that wasn't too loud and they knew exactly what to put on. I was prepared to spend $$$$ and was shocked it was so affordable. After I picked my car up I ended up staying around talking to the guy for a bit of time because he was so humorous and down to earth. I read the one other review for Discount Muffler, and must say my experience was spot on to theirs. They act like you are bothering them by asking for a quote or have a question. They are located very close to my house and I'd happily drive across town to have someone else do it. Business must be that good for them as they can pick and choose who to be nice to and what to work on. I have gone to 2 other muffler shops for custom work and received much better service. I highly recommend BJ's in the Valley. And as far as "Discount" goes, these guys are so far from it. You'd think they would have good pricing but its the most expensive shop I've visited. So if you feel like paying more and being treated like an annoying child then this place is the shop you want! read more

I saw the two negative Yelp reviews and had to leave my own. Had a weld break in front of the muffler so I took my car into them on a recommendation from a friend. The lady who's car was in front of me had a heat shield that was rattling. They spot welded it for her at no charge and sent her on her way. My car was on the lift in under 15 minutes and fixed in about 25. The repair cost was very reasonable and fair. The shop was clean and the employees were very friendly and professional. I checked out the reviews on Yelp and Discount Muffler seemed like a good choice and indeed it was. I did not have an appointment but I drove down and was able to get in quickly. I had poor luck having my tailpipe attached at two different garages. I had replaced it at one garage only to have it knock against the trailer hitch. After that it later fell off. The second garage attached it but not properly. It hung about 8" below the body. After examining the exhaust system, he came out and asked if I knew why the truck was so loud. He said that the fiberglass in the muffler was completely shot. I wasn't surprised because I had the muffler for about 160,000 miles. Discount Muffler fixed the tailpipe perfectly and installed a replacement muffler. It cost about $200 which I thought was quite reasonable. I'm totally pleased with Discount Muffler. The place was clean - even the restroom, the service was excellent. read more

Called 2 other shops this morning to discuss a loose/possibly broken heat shield above the exhaust and inquire of price to fix it. Was told by others it could cost a full $100 an hour labor job to replace. Knowing better I kept looking and spoke to Harvey at Discount Muffler who said bring it in and we did. He fixed the issue within minutes and only charged us $20 such fair value for the job. I appreciated his honesty in realizing what a small issue it was and not trying to charge us more! I stopped into discount muffler for a quote on an install of two mufflers on my car. I asked first if he (the owner) performs custom work. He chuckled-seemingly experienced with such work--then explained that he did. I told him I have detailed photos of the work I wanted done. He interuppted me abbrasively and raised his voice and explained that he "refuses to look at photos of exaust work on cars". He then began to rant about how he severely dislikes looking at photos in an effort to "duplicate" exaust work. I then attempted to explain to him that id like the exaust to hang a certiain way and that the photo provides detailed location of all nessesary exaust hardware. I attempted to further explain that the photo is just a means of reference for "my vision" of my car. He raised his voice yet again and explained that he will not look at the detailed photographs and will only use my verbal description as a means to perform the work and that I could ":only hope for the best".--with extremly hateful and rude undertones this conversation was very unprofessional. With customers in the lobby looking on with concern as this guy boasts and rants about how he runs his business even further shows what an unconfortable enviroment this is to be in. This mans (the owner) anger is out of control. I would never recommend this business to anyone that values thier money and wants to be treated like a human. My overall impressions of this man (the owner) is that he has been in "the service industry" waaaayyy too long. He is far from enjoying cars, the work he does, or the people he encounters. I was be-littled and treated as though my business does not matter. If anyone reading this knows him in any way on a personal level.... I would recommend some sort of vacation or therapy?? I had a muffler and exhaust pipe installed on my Dodge pu. The exhaust I had was in perfect working order I didn't like how loud it was. I called 4 different places and Discount Muffler was by far the most informative. As far as them being rude, I'd say they were just normal. I wouldn't call them rude or overly excited to kiss my butt. They are two normal average guys. If you are looking for a place to caudle you and beg for your business, rhis isnt it. If you want knowledgable people and fast good service this is it. They know what they are doing and did it quick. The sound I ended up with is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wasn't too sure but went with their suggestion. Very glad I did. Now I don't anticipate needing any more exhaust done in the near future, but I wouldn't hesitate to return. I needed longer exhaust hangers on my Dodge Ram Truck, and the guys was very rude to me and refused to do that, he actually offered me to cut the pipe in half (!!!) and weld it together so it wont need new hangers. Pretty much going from 5" to 2.5" , sorry but how dumb are you ?!?! This guys has no idea about backpressure nor does he knows how to start a diesel engine. He cranked it without waiting for the grid heater to cycle. WOW . He is the biggest idiot that treats his customers like dirt, thinks that hes the boss. I wish I could explain what look he gave me when I disagreed on his "fix". He lost my business for ever and as long I'm alive I will make sure that everyone knows how rude and unprofessional he is. Not one hundred percent sure what the other guy's problem was, but I had a completely enjoyable experience at Discount Muffler. I was in and out in under the quoted time, which was about an hour. The gent behind the counter was courteous, and even offered to grab me a cup of coffee. I understand the coffee pot is sitting right there in the open, but the fact he offered is nice enough. Although a bit pricey (I don't know a lot about cars, so it may only seem a lot of money), the service and cleanliness of the building made up for it.
