I normally don't get my taxes done here but I am looking for a new place to do them and after today's call I will definitely be coming here. Gary has not answered my calls for several months and did my business taxes wrong. I am in San Diego so it has been difficult to get a hold of this man in person. Because of him filing our business taxes incorrectly, we now owe many penalties. The reason why one hires an accountant is because we don't have time or don't know what we are doing. Now I don't have time to deal with the mess this guy has put me in. I still have pending items with this guy and the government is set to put a lien on our account unless he refiles correctly. Simple right? It's simple the guy answers the calls and does it. I gave him clear instructions to get this fixed in a rational manner, but he hasn't responded to my calls, emails, texts, and is not at his office (my partner checks). I filed my taxes with Gary in July and he said he'd call me within a couple days. It's September and I haven't heard a thing. I haven't gotten my tax money and haven't gotten a call. All my calls go to voicemail. I trusted Gary with my personal information. It's also my fault that I trusted him and handed him im my info in an envelope. When in time of trouble... Gary is the man to help you out when you are frustrated at all the on-line Tax Prep websites ( I.E. Turbo Tax and TaxAct ). He was open on a late Sunday afternoon to help me with my taxes... He got me more than I expected to get from the Government !!! With that being said... He kindly explained what he was uploading to the IRS website and then told me to wait until he got the confirmation that my taxes were excepted.(KWEL). His rates for his service is well worth than dealing with an headache with the on-line websites. As of note... my taxes consist of 1 job, 1 wife and No mortgage, just rent. Simple right ???. So this Saturday I decided to do my taxes with a human being that would explain it to me. Last year I did it through turbo tax and it suck not having someone to explain it to me. So I decided to just yelp a place and discovered Gary North place Discount Tax Service man it was very small place but what a huge personality Gary and his partner have I'm so grateful I took the time to find him I give him 5 stars for taking his time to explain to me and my husband cause we both were new to it. I will definitely use this company again. When I walked in he was working with a mother he had as a customer for years and now the mother bring her teenage children in to do taxes with him. Well I must say, I have never been so comfortable in a sitting doing my taxes. I have never been at ease with a thorough detailed explanation on my tax preparation until I walked into this office. Not only did Gary take the time to make me understand and verify all of my information but he also took the time and looked over my previous 3 years that were filed with a different company to ensure everything was in order. I don't know who these people are giving Gary five stars? Most likely employees or friends of his. I had a real experience with Gary and it was frightening. First of all the man never does what he says he's going to do. He never answers his phone and good luck trying to get him to call you back. I went in to his office multiple times because he told me my tax was ready. I get there and he seems to start it at that time. After sitting the third time for around 45 minutes I finally asked him "I thought you said it was ready?" To make a long and horrible story short he ended up getting me an extension (so he said) after waiting till October and multiple calls to finally send me my taxes I sent in my return at the extension date. I then later received a letter saying that I filed late and the IRS is billing me $2,600. Gary is probably one of the worst tax preparers I've ever met in my life. He doesn't even have the common courtesy to return a customer's phone call. I would run far away from this man. read more

OK JUST LET ME TELL YOU!!! These guys are amazing. I had an appointment somewhere else and the guy didn't show so these guys squeezed me in that day! And me being pregnant and tired they let me leave my stuff and bring my husband back to finish everything. The past few years I have bounced around from private tax people to tax companies and I have been so unhappy. Well Gary and Bryan remedied that problem ! I trust them completely. Bryan was so kind to me and when Gary actually did my taxes he spent the extra time to make me understand what was happening with my money and why. Not only did he explain but he talked to me like a regular person, I haven't always had that experience in the past with taxes I always felt silly like I had no clue.
