TL;DR: Worked with Garrett Jones at Crossroads Financial Planning for tax prep. Misquoted our taxes by nearly $4,000. Poor customer service -- impolite and dismissive. Once paid, they offered little further assistance. Significant miscommunication between staff members on essential elements of our filing. Longer version: We hired a tax preparation service to help navigate changes to our filing status after getting married. Our tax consultant, Garrett Jones, began working on our application with the wrong filing status. After correcting this error, there was poor communication regarding important changes that needed to be followed up on, which resulted in IRS notices arriving in June. When I raised my concerns with Garrett, his guidance was vague and he offered no clear timeline for resolution. Weeks later, with no progress made, I was left with the impression that once he had been paid, his investment in us as clients had ended. I spent approximately 10 hours on the phone with the IRS trying to sort out the status of our account. Throughout this process, Garrett maintained that I owed approximately $2,000 to the IRS -- when in fact I had a pending refund of approximately $2,000. In the end, we were left with a significant miscalculation, poor customer service, and no choice but to resolve everything ourselves. I'm still unclear what the fee we paid to Crossroads Financial Planning actually covered. Highly recommend taking your taxes elsewhere. read more

After having me sign an " engagement letter" that had no details of the services provided, they acted shocked at my request for some sort of written agreement detailing specific services and times. I was with Tony for 3 years. Everything was going great and that's why I had previously given him 5 stars. However, last year he doubled his fee for my corporate tax filing without telling me in advance. I asked for a compromise and he took $200 off, but the fee was still $500 more than the previous year. 2 weeks later he emailed me to let me know that he is no longer able to do taxes for companies because they are too time consuming and he can't make enough money. No idea how that business model is going to work, but that's his choice. What was not right was the fact that he increased his fee astronomically and then as soon as I paid it, he dumps me as a customer. Thankfully it ended up being to my benefit because I found someone else so much better and her fee is less than what his original fee was! :) If you just need personal returns done, Tony will get it done, but if you have a business don't waste your time with him. read more

I usually do my own taxes. Then I bought a condo, started my own business, and taxes started to get more complicated. I decided to go with Crossroads Planning because they offered a free initial online consultation. Brandon let me know clients' returns are worked on as a team. They even have a secure online portal to upload your sensitive documents so they are not just being emailed back and forth, exposed on gmail servers somewhere. I uploaded my documents early on and they follow up with emails asking for additional information. Everything was done online and communication was smooth and efficient. Once the team finishes your return, you meet online with one of the two EAs to go over the return. I met with Tony and he was great. I had a bunch of questions and he answered them thoroughly. He also made suggestions on future planning so that I can lower my tax liability. One warning though is they are busy! You need to book them much in advanced as their appointment spots fill up quick! But I see this as a pro and not a con. I figure they must be so busy because they have a lot of clients and they do a good job! I still owed money to both federal and state but it was MUCH less than if I had done it. They're not the cheapest but I rather pay a little more for a job well done. read more

Over the years my wife and I have used a very competent CPA to file our taxes for us. However, with recent personal events in our lives occurring, we decided we need to use the services of an Enrolled Agent for our taxes. We also needed to find a CFP to guide us on some financial matters. Our CPA was not a CFP but he dovetailed with a CFP who was commission based. We preferred a CFP who was fee based and who we felt could offer us the best type of unbiased financial planning/guidance we were searching for. After much searching, we found Tony. Due to my wife's and I varying work schedule, Tony was gracious to meet with us on a Saturday afternoon in April, despite his business hours of Monday thru Friday. We met with Tony and gave him a brief synopsis of what our needs were, both for taxes and financial planning. He was very patient, asking relevant questions and explained all of his answers in an easy to understand but never in a condescending manner.
